Jets QB situation

As a life long Jets fan I’ve seen some subpar QB play in my lifetime. This team has not been able to develop a QB since Chad Pennington. Sanchez was the only one that showed promise but they did him no favors. I’ve been saying for years the Jets should never draft a QB before round 4 again as it’s a wasted pick. Maybe this is my FSU bias but Jordan Travis has a shot to be the guy!! He will sit behind AR & TT for 2 years and learn. He has that something special in his DNA that a lot QB needs. He wants to win and hated to lose!!

  1. I don’t see it. He’s not that good. Even without the ankle injury he was probably projected as a 4-5th round pick… He might be a high end backup at best.

  2. I mean…. If it works, sure. I don’t see it, but I’m not going to be disappointed if it works out.

But the “Jets can’t develop a QB” narrative is stupid. You’re looking across multiple front offices and coaching staffs that have nothing in common other than the name on the merch. Each failed to develop a QB, they didn’t have my multiple tries, because the teams were so bad they had to thrust the QB in right away.

Shit, he’ll start a game in 2024. AR and TT are both injury risks and I honestly expect them both to go down this season.

  4. Didn’t do Sanchez any favors? He had the best oline in football and had solid play makers all around him. Never mind the leagues best defense.

  5. I like when they send me to other teams subs so I can see the mindless desperation for every single draft pick at some point. “This guy is the truth” (I’m guilty too), and almost all, including 1st rounders, will be moderate to low contributors, many will be completely useless. Jordan Travis projects as a maybe (a prob not) with some athleticism and tools, not v impressive arm or release.

  6. Sanchez sucked.

Pennington was the real deal, most accurate QB in the league but before the injuries he had a below averagish deep ball and after the injuries he had a noodle.

Pennington is the reason we should never do Zach Wilson again. Arm talent alone means nothing. Sam was a legit shot so I was good with it.

  7. If a team sucks, has a high draft pick and does not have a franchise QB, they need to draft a potential franchise QB in the first round.

The problem the Jets have had over the years is twofold. Poor scouting and subpar coaching.

Sanchez was saddled with Schottenheimer. Who’s favorite plays were pre-snap motion for -5 and Wildcat to kill momentum.

Darnold was under Bowles and then the second-worst coach in franchise history.

Then we get to Wilson who played under a subpar HC and a terrible OC.

It would be great if Travis turned into a franchise guy, but there is a reason he lasted till so late and it wasn’t only because of his injury.

  8. 95% of QBs would be way better if they were allowed to be drafted and sit at least one season and learn. It’s not possible anymore. The first 5 picks are almost always QB and you need to play them day 1 or “what the fuck are you doing”. QBs that look good in the first couple years usually have a well built team around them that make it easier and that was kind of Sanchez’s main reason for success. We were a pretty good team, traded up a lot to get him. And even then, he didn’t really light things up most games and made really dumb bad plays/throws. But we were able to have an amazing defense and cover for him a lot.

  9. I donhope Travis works out. He has skills. I am of the thought you always draft a QB in the low rounds and Hope.yoi find the diamond.

It is not just the Jets that misson high picks on qbs. But history has shown that low rounds versus the draft capital can play off big time look it Prudy for SF as an example. They maybnot have hall the physical tools 5hat a Fields or Wilson has but the ability tonread react and make the correct decisions on the Field. Thatbis what I see in Travis
