Hey everyone, wanted to hear your thoughts on the Phillies road grey uniforms over the years.
In recent years, the white piping around the Phillies logo has been reduced. They also got rid of the number on the sleeve. The trim on the end of the sleeves is much smaller, and so is the piping on the pants.
Seeing the two uniforms side by side, you could make the argument that the new version is cleaner… But in my opinion, the latest road greys are boring. I prefer the bigger, more noticeable trim on the road greys from 10-15 years ago.
What do you all think?

Removal of the sleeve number should be considered some type of criminal act and whoever OKd that should be locked up. I get they want to whore themselves out to an advertiser but I’m not sure why you’d remove something that’s so unique in the mlb uniform realm. Can’t they put a number on one sleeve and the ad on another or size them both proportionally on the same side?
The sleeve piping on the newer jerseys just doesn’t look right. It looks flimsy and cheap.
Only thing I’d disagree on is the pants striping. I think it’s too much in the Halladay pic.
Just figured I’d share this fun fact about their road jerseys:
“The Phillies are one of four teams in Major League Baseball that do not display the name of their city, state, or region on their road jerseys (others being the Los Angeles Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Tampa Bay Rays.)”
The sleeve numbers were removed to make way for the introduction of corporate sponsor logos. Yet another degredation of the uniform.
I think it’s less they “removed” the “piping” and more they made a better crest to apply to the jerseys(majestic did anyway). As nice as the contrast in color was the S having that giant white space around is just a lot of extra unneeded material.
A simple design change to improve the road grays would be to remove the white trim completely along with the sleeve cuffs, similar to what the Yankees did this season.
You can also see the main Phillies lettering on the chest is much thicker on all their jerseys now. They changed it quietly in 2016 without anyone noticing too much.

Thanks Fanatics.
If nothing else, getting rid of chain stitching makes new ones worse. Thanks, Nike

I think the standard Phillies home and away jerseys are so, so bad because they are so boooooring. ALL of our alternates are so much better. (Including the city connect which I realize is an unpopular opinion but I kind of like them).
Our standard home jerseys should be the maroon pinstripe, the standard away should be the maroon and blue (which is our current alter alternate). Those jerseys are SHARP

These should 100% be our everyday uniforms.

I think this is just a product of changing from Majestics superior template to Nikes (and fanatics) inferior one.
But I just want to say the road grays are perfect and should never be touched.
