Cubs vs. Mets Game Highlights (5/2/24) | MLB Highlights

Cubs and Mets on a glorious afternoon ready to go at City Field Adrien Hower on the mound Nico Horner stepping into the Batters box rounded slowly toward third bear hand play from batty and he got him at first base red batty continues to shine with the glove and that time with the bare hand play this is the most difficult play he’s had with the bare hand on a slow roller and he was up to the challenge beautiful play well when you go on through some struggles you need those early plays to get you on the right side of it on the ground again and this time it’s mcneel throws out to two away here’s Ian hap who’s really going through it right now and that’s on the inside corner Hower got that one to the inside block to strike out half and finish off a one two three opening inning Ben Brown is pitching in his home state for the first time as a big Leaguer for the Cubs and that one lifted shallow left field half coming on and Ian with the sunglasses on swing and a miss struck him out and Marte is gone he used the curveball again and there’s two away if he can get command of all his pitches he’s got a future well that’s he’s got a great arm in the a center field but PCA right there he’s got it and that is out number three one two three go the New York Mets Christopher Morell leads off the top of the second for the Cubs Hower deals the 01 is bounced to short circling it and Fielding it is wendle has throw a first in time one away so here’s Michael bus left-handed batter against the right-hander Hower the pitch is drill deep down the right field line it’ll one Hop Off the Wall bus on his way to Second here’s the throw by Marte the slide he’s in there safely and Michael Bush ropes that one into the corner a two dagger and a man into scoring position check swing and a ball downstairs nvz tried to stick it and it’s ball four and so now two aboard with one out Cubs looking to strike first here in inning number two and it’s Nick magal this is on the ground Wendell to Second save everybody’s safe that’s the right call yep Pete Crow Armstrong Bas is loaded and one away no score on the ground to the right side mcneel over to First and PCA knocks in Bush and the Cubs jump on top it’s one nothing Ben Brown to begin the last of the second the Cubs with a one- nothing lead the onew sang and a miss and there’s that Downer curve he’s got the first four Ben Brown has looked sharp good pitch right there reminds me of a young Michael lenen when I watch him throw High leg kick and Pitch by Brown and a high fly ball hit H to left field it’s routine for hap who’s under it and makes the catch two away a payoff pitch inside Ball Four batty draws a two-out walk the pitch ground ball hit in the hole at Short backhanded by Nico throw to a second in time for the force and that’s that the second inning is over the walk rate for Adrien Hower has been problematic he’s already walked three in this one and here’s Christopher Morell digging in from the right side as that’s grounded toward the hall nice play by batty out at second mcneel the first Double Play Beautiful play started by Brett batty Howser’s ground ball gets him out of trouble in the third flat ball along the right field line a long run for Marte slid to the line and he made the catch nice play by Marte it’s not an easy play right here that was going to be a fair ball he was playing deep and into Right Center had to come all the way and just timed it perfectly so the Mets start the last of the fourth where the Bas is on balls and it’ll bring up a powerful Pete Alonzo the New York Cleanup Man in the air softly hit right field tman charging charging makes a basket catch throw back to first that’s a double play great work by Mike tockman and the booze come out for Stewart cuz really nonchalant there trying to get back to first base talkman takes advantage of it and it’s second and third two away Morell at the plate with a two two count swinging a highfly ball out towards left field that one towards the corner and that one is gone way out of here Christopher Morell a towering home run and the Cubs add on it is now 4 nothing his second Homer in the series and a no doubter the only question was whether it was going to be fair it’s a towering run by Morel now back to the top of the order with two men away and Brandon nmo coming up this kid gets out of this inning after getting the first two men on base it’s impressive and Nimo slips will throw the hole of base hit around third comes batty he’ll come in to score Bader goes first to third Brandon Nimo gets the Mets on the board his 19th run B at end of the season and it’s now 4 to one Chicago as the Mets now get the tying run to bat with Marte coming up and Marte drives one to the center field for a base hit that brings in Bader with the second run of the inning Marte with his first hits since coming back from the Berean list drives it a run and now it’s four to2 Chicago and it’s inside ball four and that’ll load him up for Alonzo what do Craig counts will do now he’s going to take him out Ben Brown is done after four and 2/3 Keagan Thompson will take over it’s diml with third Marte at second Stewart the runner at first all loaded up with two outs tops and Deals swing and a miss he struck him out and Keegan Thompson gets out of the bases loaded jam now the infield in for the Mets with wisdom at third Pak Pro Armstrong who drove in the first Chicago run on a ground out line drive towards a right field Corner that one hooking Fair ball into the corner Pak Crow Armstrong Racing for second and he’s in there it’s an RBI double and it’s 52 former Mets first round pick coming back to City Field now as a cub after being dealt as a minor league a couple years ago and he he wants to do something put on his show McNeil batty and Bader do up for the Mets well he hits this one back to the mound bobbled momentarily by Thompson and then he threw underhand and lost the play wow that’s going to be an e the reason you throw underhand is cuz you uh have the you know what’s thrown overhand yeps oh the Bader lined over second base hit right center field Crow Armstrong up with it down three runs mcneel will put on the breaks at second so the Mets will bring the tying man to the plate first and second one out now Francisco Lindor is going to bat for Joey Wendell and the curve ball drilled into right field for a base hit around third mcneel he’ll score made it to third he’s being waved home and madreo will not make a relay throw it’s a two-run Pitch hit double for Francisco Lindor to get the Mets within a run it’s now 5 to four Brandon Nemo bats with the tying run of third Nemo drove in the first met run with a fifth inning single and that’s driven down the left field line overcomes half he can’t get it the game will be tied Lindor into score Nemo to second base his second RBI of the day and it’s five to five and the BS have come all the way back to tie this game five to five Garrett walks the lead off man here in the ninth inning and here comes Carlos Mendoza Mendoza now points out to Diaz so he wanted Garrett to face hoer now it will be Diaz coming on for tman Hamp and Morell velocity’s down a little bit there goes Herer the pitch goes to the back stop and Herer takes a turn and stops second base his second stolen base of the day 3-2 coming and he struck him out got him with the slider that’s a big first out for Edwin Diaz and half grounds one on the right side easy for mcneel two Corner over to third 3-2 coming struck him out got him with a slider Diaz pumps his fist and that retires the side Michael Bush is the batter as we start the 10 and for the first time this year Edwin Diaz is going to go more than an inning and Bush pops it [Music] up B comes in help and batty makes the catch Runner goes pitch taken down the middle there is no throw Morel slides in feet first safe at third now the infield in that’s H to center field not very deep in comes Bader with Marte Marte makes the catch Bell’s going to try it Marte throw that with the tag he got him oh wow what a play inning over Marte has just thrown out the potential go-ahead run and we stay tied bottom of the 10th Mets with the chance to walk the game off it’s 55 so it’s up to batty to try to drive in the run and then batty goes down swinging and that’ll send us to the 11th 101 mph from Daniel Palencia it’s 55 as we go to the 11th by Drive the other way slicing Fair ball into the right field Corner racing around and coming in to score is wisdom madreal and it’s an RBI double and the Cubs have taken a 65 lead and now a chance to get through this inning with just one run scoring and he hits it sharply toward the whole base hit around third madal heading home here comes Mar throw to the plate daras with a tag he missed him he’s got to go back for him again and he got him side retired daras does it again they’ll take a look at it and the Cubs might challenge the call did he Touch Home Plate he did not touch the plate yeah he got him yep no question he got him after review both calls on the field are confirmed there is no blocking and the runner is out so in the inning as Starling Marte throws out another base runner the Cubs settle for one run Daniel Palencia who retired all three hitters in the 10th stays on for the 11th the corner in against Harrison Bader with batty the Free Runner and Bader is hit by the pitch so now the Mets of the tying and potential winning runs on base down six to five in the 11th and Francisco lindoro will be coming to the plate and he drives with the other way a base hit bat around third he’s going to score Bader Racing for third he’s being waved home the throw to the plate will not be made and the Mets with the ball game Francisco Lindor with a walkoff two-run hit in the bottom of the 11th and the Mets win at 7 to six ramenos indeed

  1. Cubs get 9 hits, 7 walks, and steal 6 bases, and only get 6 runs in 11 innings. They were 4 for 19 w/ RISP. Their usual awful clutch hitting 👎

  2. That call at second with PCA’s helmet is ridiculous. How much are these umpires paid to know the rules?? I’m a LL/HS umpire and even I would’ve been conflicted with the call in the moment, probably would have called him out. It’s partly on Mendoza and Mets staff for not challenging, but still, easy out call for an umpire who knows the rules he’s paid six figures to know

  3. So disappointing, those Cubs had the rights to win and yet began defending a lead instead of remaining on the attack… the Mets have a great team, hopefully we see each other in the playoffs.

  4. Cubs bullpen needs serious help. Starting rotation isn’t awful but Hendricks has been one of the worst pitchers in the whole MLB dating back to last season. Steele and Taillon can’t seem to stay healthy. The relief pitching is hit or miss. If everybody can stay healthy and add a couple solid consistent arms then The Cubs would be a World Series contender.

  5. Also why does no one insist on helping Pete with his swing? That has to be the worst swing in all of baseball right now. Dude looks like the bat is a foreign object to him

  6. Happ belongs in double A.

The fact the Cubs have built their lineup around him for the past few years is testament to how the front office is in "dont give a shi* if we're in contention or not because I'm a multi millionaire" mode

  7. FRom a Dodger fan great win Mets. I always say if I wasn't born and raised in LA as a Dodger along with all my family I would be a Mets fan. Any time they play (not against us) I'm always rooting for them to win. I also love how Citi took inspiration from the legendary Ebbets field
