What would you think about this potential trade?

Orlando just lost a playoff game where their guards other than Suggs went a combined 0-19 with 3 assists. So I'd think Simons with Suggs and Banchero is a pretty legit option. Isaac is being underused there and is kinda redundant with Banchero.

Portland doesn't have a top-20 PF like Isaac currently. He shoots the three well and is a good defender and rebounder. He's a good deal due to having had a lot of injury downtime: 2+ years for an ACL and then most of the 22-23 season with a torn adductor muscle. Yet he played well this season and only has one year left on his deal. If Portland doesn't want him, they could try to work him into a three-way deal for additional picks, etc.

  1. This, along with the proposed Det deal sending Grant there and a trade up in the draft are a very interesting combo.

The issue that concerns me is shooting. I know we want to be rag for Flagg, but lacking real shooting threats hurts the development of guys like Shae and Scoot who are expected to create.

I’m very pro this trade, but would like something else to offset losing shooting and as injury insurance

  2. If there’s no way to get Franz, I’d prefer something around Black. Isaac is interesting, but still can’t look past the injury concerns.

  3. Love his game but he has massive injury concerns. I also don’t think he’d enjoy living in Portland too much with his political opinions, so not clear he’d want to resign once his contract expires

  4. hard pass. we want a roster that is healthy and historically speaking that isnt jonathan isaac.

  5. I’m not interested in a player who has missed nearly 3 times as many games as he has played over a 5 season span. Also a guy who caps at 20 mpg and is constantly injured can’t possibly be considered top 20 at his position.

  6. Nah this is dumb. For one id rather have RW3 over Isaac and there’s like 5 other reasons why this is bad

  7. Would need more insurance than just a non-lottery pick for Simons if Isaac doesn’t re-sign. Not much, another protected 1st.

After 1 season, this could be Simons for a mid-20s pick… and Simons could have a huge year for Orlando next year if things work out, it’d be a double gut punch.

  8. We’re essentially gambling on Isaac’s health and ability to play starter minutes in the long run; otherwise, this trade is a clear loss. Personally, I don’t think we need to make a gamble like that, we still have enough time to find a better trade.

  9. I don’t think there’s really a deal between both sides without it being significant draft capital coming back or Anthony Black being part of the deal.

Even if Simons archetype isn’t as highly valued he’s still one of the most dangerous scorers on any given night. Also I’d find it hard to believe Orlando would give up Isaac in a deal. Especially for a team that his defense really helps in Orlando. He’s a great playoff player for them

  10. Let’s take a chance on Issac, Portland has always been the island of lost toys. Come reinvent yourself in Portland, although I think the word is put about Issac being a top-5 defender in the league who legit guards 1-5. We’d have to include Timelord at least.
