José Urquidy, Cristian Javier nearing return to Astros

  1. Here’s some good news about the Astros pitching staff:

    “We’re doing a lot of exercises for underneath the forearm, shoulder lifting, getting massages,” Urquidy told Chron. “It helps the pronation muscles—finger exercises, carrying weights—because the pronation are from fingers to here.” 

    Those muscles are the pronator teres (attaches from elbow to inner forearm) and pronator quadratus (connected to radius and ulna of forearm closer to the wrist), which help a pitcher twist his arm inward when he spins a pitch. Urquidy threw a live batting practice before Wednesday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians and he’s scheduled to throw another one on Sunday. He will make a rehab start next Thursday or Friday. 

    “I felt good after the live at-bat,” Urquidy said. “I’m happy. If everything goes well, by the end of May, I’ll be here.”
