[Lin] The Padres are tired of pitchers throwing high and tight against Fernando Tatis Jr. “It’s not necessary, it’s happened too frequently and we’re not pleased by it,” Mike Shildt said. “I feel like there’s been too many already of those,” Tatis said.

  1. I agree, gotta stop. I mean what can they do, brush back the first guy next inning after each time it happens to tati?!

I’m guessing it’s metrics man saying “well, brush him back and we have a x% better chance of getting the out.”?

  2. Then they should do something. Pitchers aren’t afraid of us because we don’t retaliate.

  3. 2 weeks ago I got roasted in this sub for suggesting they were throwing at him too much and we needed to protect him. Is Shildt wrong too?

  4. They’ve been throwing at him since he came back from the steroids suspension

  5. Drag bunt and deck the next pitcher that does it really flatten the fucker and get a bench clearing brawl

  6. maybe this is a devil’s advocate opinion, but this doesn’t seem any different to me to when tatis hit a homer on 3-0.

If it’s within a team’s jurisdiction to pitch tatis high and inside, shouldn’t they do it? What would you suggest our retaliation to this would be?

  7. I said this exact thing in the post game thread. He’s going to get injured, and it’s going to be intentional. Maybe not the injury, but certainly the pitch.

Mike King putting a fastball into Corbin Carrolls ribs will stop this shit immediately. Not saying it should be done, but I am saying it could be done.

  8. …retaliate then? Have some arm from our pen make a statement.. this used to be common baseball logic 10 yrs ago.

  9. The way to solve this is for the umps to start a game with warnings to both benches and then (in theory) the first near-miss high&tight should result in an automatic ejection.

The trick is getting the umps to issue warnings to both dugouts to start the game. Which probably requires some jawing and pointing and maybe a benches-clearing “we’re all standing out here not doing anything MENACINGLY” number in a preceding game.

  10. Too bad our team has a history of no nut sack. We’ve been punked by every team in the league for decades. Someone like Joe should have stood up for him years ago

  11. Bench clearing incoming, we put the statement out there and if we still see those bs pitches, there will be some action, well at least i hope so.

  12. I’m a new baseball fan, so take this with a whole shaker of salt. But it’s wild how much latitude pitchers have to huck a ball 100mph at a dude.

If I was a player I’d ask for full-face helmets. 2 of the 3 guys standing at the plate are armored up.

  13. Lol, dude who has posted about this multiple times on this sub and generally gotten roasted by you guys is feeling very vindicated right now. Glad to hear Schildt say it. It’s not hard to see that it happens over and over to Tatis and literally no one else. If they were throwing inside at the waist or below, fair game. All these head high pitches that require superhuman athleticism to avoid are not ok. Time for Padres pitchers to step up and send that message loud and clear to opposing teams.
