[Jackson] NBA scout on Donovan Mitchell: A hypothetical Heat offer of Herro and the Cavs’ choice of Jovic or Jaquez and a first-round pick would be “a competitive one, because Mitchell can just leave in a year… I would assume Cleveland would say it’s not quite enough. But it’s a competitive offer”

An Eastern Conference scout with another team said the Heat’s non-Adebayo commodities — which include several young players, one tradeable first-round pick and movable contracts — are a decent “asset” portfolio, in his view. Not extraordinary, but good…

Regarding Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell (who reportedly is expected to seek a trade), he said a hypothetical Heat offer of Herro and the Cavs’ choice of Jovic or Jaquez and a first-round pick would be “a competitive one, because Mitchell can just leave in a year.

"Herro and Darius Garland can score and shoot, but defensively you’re giving up a lot if you pair those two together. That’s a pretty good deal. I would assume Cleveland would say it’s not quite enough. But it’s a competitive offer.”

The scout said there are a few other teams who probably can top that, particularly if Brooklyn offers a package built around five first-rounders, though he was skeptical the Nets would do that.

  1. I really need to get off this forum until pre season starts.

My heart can’t take another ‘Dame summer’

  2. The part about only having 1 tradeable first round pick is technically true right now but after the draft 3 will be tradeable, including whoever Miami drafts with pick 15 in this year’s draft

  3. Operating within the guidelines here, I’m not sure who I’d be more bummed about. I looooooove JJJ and look forward to his Sophomore season, but players with Jovic’s skillset don’t exactly grow on trees. 🙃

  4. I can’t see this type of offer working when others have so many assets. Would love to swap Herro for Spida though.

  5. Don’t save no young players, it’s Donovan Fucking Mitchell for Christs sake. Only team a serious threat to getting him would be OKC. I don’t think they want him tho, they like their team. And Okc is already a contender. Spida isn’t going on the decline either like Dame was, he’s barely entering his prime. I get half Heat fans, wanna be attached to the kids. They’re not ready for atleast 3 seasons to lead the team. After Jimmy title window sadly. Also u really wanna keep one of the kids? If it meant Bam getting disgruntled and asking out?

  6. Donovan just dropped 50 in a close out playoff game and had 0 support from anyone else, but people here will tell me JJJ and Jovic are untouchable for him.

Stop. Love the young guys but Mitchell is a proven asset. And don’t talk to me about age. They’re all young.

  7. Here comes the “every poverty organization with a star tries to fleece the Heat” offseason again!

  8. And all of them plus more was considered the worst trade package ever last offseason lol

  9. Would rather keep JJJ and Jovic. When i think of teams that “don’t play equal to the sum of their parts”, i think of the Jazz and Cavs with D Mitch. Unless he’s willing to adapt his playstyle, i just don’t think it’s worth it. I think fans are just frothing at the mouth for any offensive superstar. This team is not beating the Celtics/Nuggets/Wolves with that lineup.

Sometimes his team naturally underperforms, and sometimes he just doesn’t play in tandem with them. It’s not as black and white as “Donovan Mitchell is constantly surrounded by untalented players”.

  10. Donovan Mitchell’s first choice has been rumored for YEARS to be NYC. The Knicks probably don’t want him so it’s going to be about whether or not Brooklyn wants to get involved.

Oh, also…why would Cleveland want Tyler Herro at 30 million a year?

  11. Is it possible if we could give them herro and two waterboys instead?

  12. The tenor of this is a lot different from the Dame rumors which were always saying that we needed to offer **everything** for Dame.

If Jaquez, Herro, and a 1st is the ask…that’s actually a reasonable package considering Mitchell is an expiring.

(Jovic is a bridge too far, we’ve been desperate for a good PF next to Bam and we finally have one with legit star upside)

  13. Unpopular opinion but I think our sub overestimates JJJs potential. Of course anything could happen, but Jovics potential seems higher to me.

  14. By far the best way to build a team is through drafting and developing talent. Superstar trades, especially ones where you are paying full price, are a difficult way to get it done. This is why the Heat keep on coming up short in these superstar trades, you can’t trade for a guy if its going to handcuff you ability to build around him.

I love Mitchell, especially the fact that he is young, but from a team building perspective its so hard to trade 2 super cheap guys who are 20 and 23, plus a decent starting guard, for one player who is going to get $60+ million a year. People don’t realize the Heat will have no options to fill out the roster other than minimum guys. I believe in the Heats ability to find diamonds in the rough, but thats for filling out the back end of the roster, not trying to find 4 rotation players.

  15. NO. Getting Mitchell would be just more of the same live by the 3 die by the 3 ball we play. We need to get another banger in the paint that has decent mid shooting game (similar to K-Love). Personally, I’d trade our middle valued assets for better picks in the draft and getting more size.

  16. Do you think adding Terry, Duncan, or Caleb to the mix, Would help sweeten the deal?

And honestly, and Extra pick would have to be thrown in as well.
