  1. Based on the MVP voting, Tatum will probably not be in the 1st team. Brunson will be in.

  2. so to recap, the best team that lots think is going to have an easy road to the title has 2 all stars, no top award candidates, and likely no 1st team all nba players. extremely confusing.

  3. So, with Brunson, this is going to be like in 2017 where Isaiah Thomas finished 5th in MVP voting, but made All-NBA 2nd Team, right?….Right??

  4. And I got downvoted like crazy on the NBA sub for saying all Boston media does is try to create controversy and that they don’t force agendas for season awards.

A historic regular season in terms of net rating with both defensive and offensive dominance, alongside 64 wins and this is what this “Boston media mafia” has achieved. 0 awards for the players, not even a single Top5 and the coach not even in the Top3.

I don’t care about the awards but people saying Boston media being this thing that pushes an agenda in favor of Boston’s teams is laughable.

  5. I think that’s fair. I’d put him over Brunson this year but the other guys all had fantastic seasons. I’m not really broken up about Tatum getting outvoted by players who are at his level and who had to shoulder more for their team to succeed.

  6. Shai gets the benefit of “best player on a top team” but Tatum doesn’t?

  7. Every year media is all like the best player on the best team. Unless it’s the Celtics.

  8. Got to hope and pray that people:

    1) Forget that it’s positionless All-NBA voting

    2) Blindly accept that Luka is a guard even though he’s bigger than a bunch of forwards

  9. I’m of the opinion that Brunson should be top 5 MVP and Tatum should be top 5 all-nba. So we will see if this ends up being the case

  10. Unless Tatum starts ball hogging and trying to score 40+ every game to win by himself like everyone else, will he ever get an MVP.

  11. Maybe he’s not top fye? /s We don’t get the respect other teams do

  12. 1-5 will be having early trips to Cancun while Tatum rides a victory duck boat through downtown Boston

  13. Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate loL

This era Celtics might be the most disliked by their not-fans of any team in quite some time. It feels like the Patriots during peak Brady era or Yankees during Jeter’s prime.

Best-player All Star on the team with the best record doesn’t get you to MVP. It’s about narrative. And we do not have that narrative going for us outside of our own fandom or in the right media circles.

Maybe the ring changes the convo next year but I bet when we get the ring this year and if we had the same team makeup and very similar stats next year, it’d be the same re: awards and such, same narrative.

  14. I mean if we’re talking strictly about value this season we can’t be too mad especially given how the award has trended this year.

Celtics have blown out their opponents by 20+ despite multiple games where JT is shooting sub 30%. Those other guys above him don’t get that luxury.

I’m not too mad mat this. Individual accolades be damned, we know what the goal is.

  15. Meh. Brunson’s the only one you could argue against. And I could make the argument that, without Brunson, the Knicks are *farrrr* worse than the Celtics without Tatum.
