Pirates notebook: Derek Shelton says slumping Rowdy Tellez will continue to get opportunities

“This is a guy who’s hit 30-plus homers in the big leagues (35 in 2022) that we felt was going to be a big part of our offense. We have to figure out a way to get him started.”

He said there’s no timeline for Tellez to rediscover his batting stroke.

  1. Does this comment ever really mean anything? Most managers won’t say “this fuckin guy is killing me”. They don’t want to hurt the players confidence

  2. Translation from Nutting: $3 million dollars!!!!

Translation from Cherington: I’m a genius. Just wait and see.

  3. It’s amazing other teams are so successful being so antiquated like playing the same lineup everyday. The Braves are ruining modern baseball by not platooning guys. The Pirates are cutting edge and it’s obvious you shouldn’t always play your hottest hitter ..he might be tired. /s

  4. He shouldn’t get to play over Joe. Joe should play every game. Not Rowdy.

  5. One of the most annoying things about Rowdy is whenever he hits a routine ground ball, he barely even makes it out of the batter’s box.

Like I get that 95% of the time for him, it’s going to be an out anyway even if he’s running, but if you’re going to suck this bad, could you at least pretend to give a shit?

  6. Well, seeing as 1.5 months of the season have already passed and he has 1 home run, I don’t see that 35 happening again. Cut your losses and move on

  7. Hopefully this is like “Paul Skenes is scheduled for his next start in Indy”

  8. He had one good season. They shouldn’t have signed him to begin with. He stinks.

  9. I can’t recall them giving up on a player they spent a few million dollars on this early in the season.
