Dodgers pregame: Dave Roberts gives updates on injured players and talks Shohei Ohtani bobblehead

[Music] Dave what can you tell us about uh EMT Sheen uh EMT just had a surgery successful surgery uh obviously he’ll be down for this year and uh you know we we’ll know more as it progresses but that’s something that uh is unfortunate to end this season but uh expect a full recovery you been Longs in the last home stand major setback there wasn’t a major setback I just think that from what I heard it just wasn’t responding um the way he had hoped we had hoped and so I think at that point in time you just feel that with the uh information he was getting that getting the surgery was the right uh was the right decision Skipper you’ve been a part of a lot of special events here at Dr St I’d like to you talk about this event this evening with the bble have for show um it’s exciting um I obviously uh Shi certainly creates a stir and um I can’t imagine what it’s like outside and um it’s good it’s great for Shi it’s good for the Dodgers it’s uh I mean it’s going to be a hot ticket item to to uh be lucky enough to grab one of those but uh the more I see him every day I just I realize how special of a person and a ball player he is there’s a line down the hill is that right yeah that’s not surprising are you a bobblehead guy and if so is this one that you would keep personally um I think I I keep them somewhere um they’re around CU I get one uh for each bobblehead KN so I’ve got quite the collection with like the start he’s gotten up to back in the spring we were talking about you know if hitting only if that was going to help his performance late this year like are you seeing that so far just with like he’s gotten off to this is the best start he’s gotten off to his career you attribute any that to just being able to focus on hitting right now um I think so um hopefully you know when he’s pitching next year um he can mirror somewhat mirror what he’s doing offensively but I I think there’s something to just the kind of the the focus on the one aspect of the game but still doing his rehab and and that probably has nothing to do with the um like I talked about this too but like how hard he hits the ball like these bat feat numbers came out I think a lot of people would have expected him to have like one of high and he’s not he’s in with a lot of other guys like what does that tell you when it’s more than just like the bad speed that leads to what he does like what are the other parts of what he brings at the plate that allows him to kind of be the kind of hitter he is um well I don’t I I I think I don’t think it’s more of one isolated swing I think that with shohi it’s the the the the the collective amount of balls that he hits at a certain velocity and so I think that’s a separator um I’d be it’d be hard to find a guy that does it more consistently and I don’t know the numbers um but also his ability to hit to all Fields um he gets on base a ton he vales the walk so all that stuff I think makes him you know extremely dangerous saw haward here what’s his stat uh yeah Jason had a two-day rehab and then so uh we’ll see uh how he comes out today um he’s going to be mov around and so we’re going to activate him soon so um I’ll have a conversation with him and the trainers and we’ll see uh you know what would be the impending move it’s not today though but he won’t be anymore no going back to Sheen was it interal race or full Tommy John uh I I don’t I I don’t know I think it was the Tommy John but I’m not sure I’m not sure and then uh Chris Taylor’s the starting L today it’s his first game in seven N9 days um was he working on stuff that the inter what kind of light um he he’s been working um every day on something to kind of try to work through his uh mechanics and um I just felt that you know it’s been quite some time and I I need to get him in there and um also you know with Max uh getting a day um Andy’s been grinding to get him a day to watch a baseball game you know I think that’s beneficial as well so um you know CT’s on our roster uh he’s been very big for me and us for many years and um I got to keep trying to give him opportunities and uh I will continue to do so is there something that you want to see from him that will tell you that just the work that he’s been putting in is kind of was moving in the right direction but like something is kind of clicking for it to unlock to what he is fatherly capable of doing um I I think you know with with Chris there’s obviously been a lot of swing and Miss in his game um um I I think for me it’s the indecisiveness of when to swing when not to swing I think that this year a lot of it there’s been the swing and miss and the indecision whether it’s a take or a check swing and I don’t know if he’s guessing or he’s in between but just sort of some clarity uh when he’s uh in the bage box that’s impressed you the most about what taxon has been in your rotation uh I think the the the most impressive thing is he uncharacteristically has walked a lot of guys and still be able to weather those uh base runners and still make pitches to limit the damage and not get overly frustrated to cost us a a start or an outing and to keep kind of working through it and I think the last couple he’s been considerably better and that just speaks to obviously experience a maturity how did Bobby come out of his really well he he’s here now he’s um playing catch but it was two innings the velocity was where it needed to be uh I think it was 3 to S 3 to eight something like that um so if it goes well today we’ll we’ll make a decision if it’s going to be another Sim game or we’ll send him out on a rehab I think Ramirez came up today are down just kind of getting out the fresh arm during the stretch yeah fresh arm um and just to uh have a guy that can give us a couple Innings but uh Eduardo was great it it was good seeing them again uh pitch wall for us and now we got Nick back and uh hopefully uh he can help us how did come out of yesterday’s de was good um he’s uh I don’t know then I think it’s uh maybe Saturday that he’s going to be back on the mound but uh he was good every day he’s been good and uh we’re just trying to have a net positive every time he he getes to a day and so there’s no um expectation on uh when he’s going to be back just each day just get better that’s the kind of the the hope Dave I don’t know if you dressed this on the road but um with show his arm stuff has been going so well people keep speculating maybe he can pit by the time I’m rolls around is that is that is that I I just don’t see a world that that even happens um anything in Happ I guess with a player like sh but I just don’t see that happening
