been interviewed for the andj leech who’s also been kind of connected as well and just try to get to know some of these guys what they would potentially bring to San Jose so before we get into all on Elliot Freeman’s 32 thoughts uh podcast this week uh he mentioned that the sharks are interested in Jeff uh blel so Jeff blel if you do not know um former let me pull this up here uh former uh Red Wings head coach currently right now A the lightning assistant coach um but yeah he was the Detroit Red Wings head coach also head coach for the Grand Rapids uh Detroit’s AHL team and then was also a NCAA coach um for as well won a CER cup with Grand Rapids way back in 2013 so he is kind of the name that has recently popped up as a potential uh someone that my career is looking at here and um blaso kind of makes a lot of sense especially when you look at at the profile right was the head coach of the Red Wings from 2015 to 2022 during that time uh of course that that was kind of the Red Wings transition rebuild years right um they’re very much like the Sharks were going through kind of out with the old you know stockpiling uh picks um trying you know kind of and we’re starting to see a little bit of the fruits of the labor Red Wings kind of just missing the playoffs this year but during that time he went 204 261 and 72 uh did make the the playoffs in 2016 and that was kind of the last draw of the Red Wings before they they really entered their rebuild phase um but I I think blel is somebody who makes a lot of sense right kind of went through a a a rebuild situation with the Red Wings um you know and of course he was fired from that because the team didn’t improve enough but again kind of like Quinn where it was very much the roster that you were given right and during that time was not great and that that uh 2019 2020 team was one of the worst red uh hockey teams if they had that season had not been uh cut short by Co they probably would have had less points ended you know a full 82 Game season with less points than what the Sharks did this year um but you know I listening to Steve Eiserman you know I listen went back and rewatched his press conference um from after blell got uh was terminated and he talked about how blell he he did a good job of kind of running the program right um you know he thought the way he were practices the way he kind of coached the way he kind of developed his team did a good job but the inability to improve the defense uh was was kind of his undoing there which is um something to keep in mind as the Sharks team’s defense last year um it was bad right uh we we all saw it it was a very bad defensive team and yes um you can look at the talent on the roster when you have you know kind of a mix of um you know seven or eight guys who on most teams would probably be fifth or sixth defenseman granted some of these are much young guys like Tai emberson and Henry thr etc etc um but right we we know the the talent level on the defensive side of of the puck wasn’t the best so um interesting though because I mean like last season of while Blas show was was in Detroit mider burst onto the scene and won The Calder um that year and yes again one guy doesn’t make your defense as we saw with Eric Carlson um but just something interesting where maybe again you had a little bit more Talent and kind of see where where um blel could could potentially go with it I talked to Brian over at locked on Red Wings even though uh he thinks I’m garbage or he got Tony farari to think I’m garbage uh or say I’m garbage but you know I kind of talked to him about his his thoughts with with you know of blel and he he said he kind of he actually liked him um you saw the way he wasn’t afraid to play young guys which is a big big check mark right for for the Sharks is you need someone who isn’t afraid to play young guys um that was kind of Quinn’s you know he was sometimes hesitant to play some of the younger guys um but yeah he mentioned that he really liked that where he wasn’t afraid to play the young guys you know he’s good at developmen developmental you know aspect of the game again coached the AHL Championship back in 2013 um did say though he struggled with kind of adjustments uh which is again right the Sharks right now are not super into business of winning games right now winning the development side is more important than maybe the wins and losses and yes you want to win more games you did last year at least be more competitive uh than you were last year but again right it’s it’s this season’s about William eklan back in celebrini you know uh if Will Smith’s here like it’s it’s putting these young guys in the best position to succeed and making sure that they’re getting their NHL careers off headed off into a good uh start and I think having a guy who’s been through one of these rebuilds before right um yes rebuilds are hard and you know like you’re we know the sharks are probably going to lose a bunch of games this year and having a guy who’s kind of been through that before and has now spent the last two seasons with Tampa maybe learning that system um I think again it’s not going to be a sexy hire right the sharks are most likely not going to be making a you know kind of sexy higher with this because of where the franchise is right now but um I’m intrigued by what Jeff blashill could potentially bring to the Sharks especially when it comes to the development and then whatever pieces he can take from Tampa Bay and that system which has been very very successful and maybe um if you’re a connect you know uh Steve stamp Coast to San Jose type of person um that’s gives you maybe another calling card in that right as the sharks look to add some pieces they do do need to spend some money um and again we don’t know Blas Hill’s uh his potential relationship or what his relationship with Steve SOS is but um if they have a good relationship that could be a nice again like calling card like nice kind of connect the dots right and we all we know a lot of free agents and everything like that it’s a lot very much about relationships oh I played for this guy before Oh I know this guy from here um etc etc so interested to see kind of where this leads again um we’re still don’t know where how far along the process is you know mic care is very uh quiet uh close to the vest when it comes out of comes with with with especially with stuff like this but I could very much see this especially for a guy who’s kind of been through been through it with with the Red Wings before and I think right now the sharks have kind of already hit their low point and now it’s the can can you start to build a little bit here at least the hope is we’ve hit our low Point um and potentially start to build a little bit here so I’m intrigued to see if Blas will continues to be a candidate for the Sharks and kind of what he would potentially bring um to San Jose so we’ll continue to look at some other potential candidates here we’ll talk about uh former shark Marco Sturm um and if he makes a bunch of a lot of sense especially from what his previous background is uh so we’ll talk about that here in just one second if you want to grab tickets for an NBA playoff game uh maybe you want to go see the Giants maybe you want to go see the A’s it’s concert season is almost here you need to check out game time uh game time is the authorized ticket Marketplace of the NBA it makes getting playoff tickets even faster and easier price on Game Time app actually go down the and you get slammed with a bunch of fees but they’re all in pricing that game time you know exactly how much you’re going to pay no surprises no sticker shock when you go to check out um so make sure you guys go check out game time they take the guest we got to buying NBA tickets MLB tickets whatever you are looking for um download the game time app create an account use code locked on NHL for $20 off first purchase terms apply again create account and redeem code lock on NHL l c uh ke d o n NHL for $20 off download game time today last minute tickets lowest price guaranteed all right um Marco Sturm um potential potential uh so former shark of course uh part of the biggest trade uh easily the biggest trade one of the biggest trades I would you would go thoron first and I would guess Eric Carlson second uh we’ll go thoron though takes takes the cake um marer potential so uh currently the reain um of the AHL Ontario rain the LA Kings AHL affiliate their head coach also was an assistant coach for the kings in the NHL part of uh uh top mclen staff and then the head coach of Germany we’ll get to the Germany part here a little bit more but kind of his quick resume uh the rain right now are in the Pacific finals of a uh playing uh Coachella he’s an interesting one because of again right we I think we we know the sharks are going to be looking at that developmental piece especially with how young their rosters projected to be you know um your you’re talking about two guys who are probably gonna if Will Smith and M and celebrini are both here two guys under the age of 20 um multiple you know guys who were under the age of 23 like that this this roster is going to be very very young again um and then Mark Edward vasic and Mel granin are hand hanging out but um like this the a guy again who’s used to working with younger guys playing in the AHL right um I know Ontario’s got a little bit more veteran presence than than um like the San Jose Barracuda do but again like he’s worked with very high-profile players um during that time you know Brent Clark excellent defenseman that pick right after the sharks um great season full season this year with Ontario rain you know he had 46 points in 50 games playing for the rain this year um Akil Thomas who you know former second round pick really kind of found his game this year with 46 points in 64 games for for um Ontario like you’ve seen the way La they they’ve been able to kind of been very slow meticulous with their development you know Quinton beld um Marcos Ser didn’t you know wasn’t the coach of the rain during that time but you’ve seen a guy like that right very slow with their their process and development and now they’re kind of paying dividends with that um so Marcus makes makes a lot of sense right former shark that’s just again nice little kind of feather in the cap there um as of course you know knows Patrick Marlo Mike RI like kind of knows a lot of the development staff there uh with the sharks and would be able to you would assume fit uh right in um but I think another thing that’s really interesting is kind of reading about his past and his you know kind of after his NHL is he really had a huge hand in kind of the German national team working kind of to build that program from the ground up especially when it comes to like um you know the under2 team like kind of building that up and then he kind of worked his way with that team became eventually was the head coach of of of Team Germany you know for the men’s but um you know that that’s not easy to kind of build a development being part of that kind of group to build a development uh path and see it become successful right we’ve seen a lot of German players you know starting to hit um the NHL you know you look at I mean of course stles amazing but guys like um JJ petka you know um Tim schel like you’re seeing a lot of these German guys really start to kind of make their Mark in the NHL and you have to point to some of the ground work that Marco Sturm has laid for that um being part of that growth and development and um you know I think from you know read again reading some of the interviews and stuff and the way he’s able to kind of teach and connect with with some of these young players is is a very key uh important aspect and very underrated thing is uh if you pull him away from the Kings you make that organization worse right um maros St who’s been kind of of you know starting to to be part of these head coaching job you know job opportunities um pulling him away he must be very good at his job right if he’s going to start getting some of these these head coaching opportunities um and that makes the Kings who’s one of your biggest Rivals worse if you you take a piece out of there so um again we’re I I I really like watching I I think with the rain you see kind of the way they play they’re very good defensively um um you know their go and again playing some of the trusting some of the young guys right um Eric pello the you know rookie goalie this year um played 39 games for them um that that’s a lot for for a rookie goal tender to to kind of you know play in the AHL right this was his first full season um even in in the playoffs right um he’s played a bunch of playoff games for them this year as well in the you know kind of playing big minutes for them um you know kind of being their starting goenda as well so uh you know I I’m at least the beginning of the playoffs sorry I’m blowing up the the game long here but you know former and portella former third round pick from this you know from the buffo Sabers that the Kings traded for um still had a really nice season 250 goals against average 918 save percentage and 24 wins 11 losses for again a rookie goenda former Michigan guy but again trusting your young guys to you know kind of putting them in a good position to succeed and trusting their their development um it’s very easy you know Aaron Dell was on the roster like they had a lot of they had different options where if they wanted to go somewhere else but they know they need to develop these younger guys and they’re putting these guys in a a position to develop get better and also win right and I know again like I mentioned before I don’t expect the Sharks to be as worried about the wins and losses yes they want to win games um but again right it’s more important that you are seeing these young guys get better and better that way when it’s time to start winning it is the young guys who’ve kind of been through the trials and tribulations and that they’re the ones leading the way um and and kind of pulling the weight right that this is why you lost all these games this is why you drafted high so that these young guys that you drafted you know William ecklin Will Smith M celebrini bastad etc etc these are the guys who were kind of leading the way for you and you know kind of being that next wave so uh marer you know a lot of people when when the Sharks kind of first announced David Quinn was out a lot of people pointed to Marco Sturm as as a potential guy there so um would be you know another guy I’m interested to see kind of what he would bring to San Jose and again you’re making the Kings worse which is always a good thing so uh we’ll talk about wosi and Jay leech here in just a minute passion drive and patience the formula for winning championships is also what keeps your ride or die alive eBay monores everything you need to maintain your vehicle and leveled up to Peak Performance superchargers Rox to us customers all right uh Ryan warski um who we’ve you know have talked about on on this program before but um he has officially gone through and done his interview of course uh currently the the Sharks assistant head coach um head coach of the Chicago uh wolves AHL was also with Charlotte coached South Carolina ECHL won a Calder Cup with Chicago in 2022 um and I know like it’s going to be interesting with him because he was in charge of the defense right and I think that’s the big focus is for the Sharks is how do you get this defense better why picked the guy who just ran this poor defense right again he’s just the coach right he’s doing what he the assistant coach he’s doing what he told right is David Quinn’s system and I’m curious to see what he would do if he has his own way right and the nice thing is like he kind of knows the players already having worked with them and maybe like he can build a better system for them knowing their strengths and weaknesses a little bit more but at the same time why wouldn’t he have just done that last year I guess I’m trying to play both sides of this here of what with Ryan wovi um I still I I think Ryan wski is going to be a head coach right and you’ve seen how you know his his path again he’s been very very good wherever he has gone um you know he was when South Carolina those I actually was living in South Carolina at the time uh when he that that they made their run to I think it’s the Kelly I forget whatever the ECHL title is but when they made their run um at the time I lived I also lived in Charleston where these South Carolina Stingrays uh are located um but like Charleston’s not a hockey town man like there’s is right um but that during that time that they definitely got some Buzz with him and again right he’s gone he went to Charlotte they were were good he want went to Chicago Chicago’s always been pretty good right but um again got over the the hump um with a very aggressive penalty kill in a team known for their defense and um maybe given the Reigns he would be kind of more apt to play a more aggressive style to maybe overcome defensive issues that they have with just a lack of talent where you know what maybe we’re not the most talented we’re just going to play Super aggressive super hard with our defense um and maybe that’s that’s the way he tries to go here where David Quinn you know it maybe we heard where very kind of it seemed like from you know guys like yo Stern very kind of rigid with his style wasn’t kind of willing to work things around to try to kind of overcome some of of of their you know shortcomings defensively or um so maybe that’s the warski approach is just we’re going to try to be way more aggressive with here um and give our guyses a little bit more freedom um to to try to again we know we’re we’re not the most talented team let’s just try to make up for it by being super super aggressive so um I know he had I think Shang Pang reported that he has actually interviewed for the job he also remember did interview at the uh way back in 2022 when When Quinn got hired uh and was brought on so I know warski though I believe has is also interviewed for the Kraken job or is supposed to interview for the Kraken job as well um so just to kind of keep that in mind speaking about the Kraken uh Jay leech who’s also kind of been I know he has interviewed for the Kraken head coach job uh was the assistant coach for them as well uh long time um in in Providence in the AHL uh was also assistant head coach at willberry in the AHL as well um leech uh again former shark shortterm um wasn’t there super long but yes Jay leech former shark um also did spend some time um in Germany um as an assistant coach as well but yeah was uh two year one years the assistant coach in Providence with the Bruins um and then spent several years as a head coach there before uh he bumped up to the NHL where he spent the last three years with the Seattle Kraken as their assistant coach uh again another young guy he’s only 44 um so you would expect him to be able to continue you know to kind of work with these younger players um as well yeah we’re still this is just kind of ties again don’t really know what what this situation is it’s just a name that is kind of floating around as a potential person here um so I still think think though I mean I assume if if Seattle offered him the job first he would probably go there because he’s been there the past couple years um and you can Seattle’s kind of an upand cominging team I know they they took a big step back last year compared to the year before but again I think two years ago they were way ahead of schedule this last year was kind of more what you’d expect to see out out of this team that I still feel like wants to kind of build this up a little bit slower a little bit the you know kind of build it up the right way and I would expect Seattle to be better next year uh especially with Shane Wright kind of hitting the scene Matty baners um you know having a a probably a bounceback season um so you know I think Seattle’s maybe a well yeah Seattle is probably a bit of a better uh spot right now than the sharks are um just because of the talent that’s already on the roster and you know some of the incoming Talent here as well so interesting to see if he would be but again right there’s only 32 right 32 uh head coaching jobs and if you get offered one are you going to turn down one even if it’s a uh uh not great spot at least when it comes to wins losses for for San Jose right now so um I think that’s all the kind of guys at the moment who are uh yes so Jay Le did according to Shang Pang Jay Le did interview with uh with the Seattle Kraken but has been also linked to the Sharks job um so we’ll kind of see keep an eye on that as well some of the other just kind of coaching these are kind this is all from um the uh Elliot Freeman 32 thoughts podcast so since there’s six coaching jobs left here soon I think the Maple Leafs one might be about wrapped up um so you have Jay Woodcraft um and Sheldon Keefe as uh kind of the the main guys for the Devils um Craig baru I think is supposed to go to the leavs um Dean Evanson is uh I think is interviewing with with the Jets um as well I don’t know if there were actually actually hired that I thought I saw something today but maybe they haven’t quite gotten there yet so um you do have the Kings who are going to be looking um you know to to fill their spot here if it could be potentially uh Sturm who again in-house type of guy so plenty of uh coaching Carousel news here to go I wouldn’t be surprised if the sharks are the last one to fill theirs again right it’s it’s not the best situation when it comes to wins and losses as coaches are kind of you viewed on but uh I think though for a low pressure where you’re going to get a chance to de velop some high-end Talent if that’s your thing this is San Jose is the place to be so um that’s going to be it for me today uh thank you guys again for making lockdown sharks your first listen um plenty of great stuff this week right uh we had a draft profile um yeah I mean there was I did a lot of good stuff this week I think so um yeah go check I did a nice breakdown of uh Casper Halton and congrats to Casper honin uh winning the OHL uh well yeah winning the Championship we’ll have more on the Memorial Cup so keep an eye out on on how halson and does there uh so yeah make sure you guys are following R get Podcast of course you can watch on YouTube as well be back next week we probably have two draft profil slash draft related things um coming up so make sure you guys are following along also follow the show on Twitter Facebook and Instagram at lockon sharks follow me on Twitter at my fry hole till Monday bye friends [Music]

Stop rolling your eyes 👀, dude. Looks pretty eerie.
11:53 I thought you were going to say "Currently has the reins of the Ontario Reign."
I think a lot of Sharks fan overreacting to this coach search, I think people think whoever we hire is going to be the future HC. Like JD said this year next year and probably the year will all be about development not wins and loses. If this next HC is the answer that’s great I would love that, but more than likely this another development hire.
Unreal.
