Peter DeBoer Reacts to Dallas Stars Series Win vs. Colorado Avalanche, Matt Duchene Legendary OT GWG

[Applause] [Music] start of the season a lot less for a little more right and it’s about depth and I think you’re 11th game in 22 days double overtime you have the best legs you know rolling four lines is this is this where it paid off so so proud of our group I I think it’s actually well that’s our 13th game every other day you know you get both previous Stanley Cup champions uh what a gauntlet you know um you know Colorado was a more rested team you know uh after their first round I just uh couldn’t be proud of our group I thought everybody dug deep um you know and and our depth did carry us through you know that that that gave us the spark cuz you know we’ve got a mix of older and younger guys but uh um you know they were just fantastic and just hard to believe with a gauntlet like that that you know you’re only halfway there but you know we’re we’re going to enjoy and need the time off here um and uh get ready for the next round uh Pete I guess you could say it’s a moot point although you know you’re hoping to play two more rounds where there might be another goalie interference review I mean your what’s your sense of what you saw there um yeah I I don’t know I I I’d like to get an explanation I didn’t I didn’t get an explanation I I’d heard the referees had talked to some of the players you know the players have told me what the referee said you know sometimes that gets Lost in Translation especially with some of our players so uh I’m not I I don’t want to comment on it till I get an official um explanation you know I think uh you know puzzled but I I want I want to hear you know what the explanation was hey you know Matt duan’s Journey as well as anybody the whole situation with Nashville and then to come back into this building and have this first the penalty or whatever the infraction and then to get the gamewinner just what a story book ending for yeah really happen for really happy for duchy um and he’s he’s ridden the confidence roller coaster here the second half and in the playoffs you know re really you know some high highs and some low lows and uh you know was probably about as low as he could be after game five um and you know again that’s why our group special I thought they rallied around him um and he was maybe our best player tonight so you know that’s uh that’s what teams do for each other hey Pete um you’ve taken a couple different franchises to the Stanley Cup Final before what so far about this run makes you feel like this going to end in the special the way you wanted to yeah well you never know right but you’re down to you’re down to four teams out of 32 that started this journey um I never take for granted making the playoffs it’s really hard it’s really hard to win around in this league and and it’s you know obviously even harder to to win two and get to a Conference Final so on so on so you never you never take that for granted you never know how that journey is going to end you know I think you know any of the teams left could win you gota you got to have some luck you got to have some health you got to have some balances I think uh really um you know hopefully the stars aign for US 29 saves for modder tonight some of them rather spectacular would you think his performance yeah he was he was fabulous it was really fabulous early you know Colorado really pushed in the first uh like we knew they would uh at home you know that’s the other thing our team comes in here and and wins three Road games against the best home team in the NHL um you know just just fantastic character to be able to do that against that team in this building um and it starts with him I mean we don’t get through the first period unless he’s dialed in and and makes the saves he makes Pete Zack pzy in his final press conference with us took time out of his time to talk about you to talk about the relationship he has with you and and just rooting for you to go on and win the cup I guess what could you say about him his career and just what was that moment like in the in the handshake line with yeah you know Z Zach uh Zach was my first captain in New Jersey uh where where we actually went on a playoff run went to the Stanley Cup Final that was my first playoff as a coach and he and he was our leader you know on and off the ice just I I he’s always been one of my favorite NHL players cuz you know he’s got an engine that doesn’t stop he’s got character uh that oozes he’s he’s just had a fantastic career um fantastic family man you know I I I wish you know our our paths would have crossed again at some point I know we tried you know a few times over the years because I would have loved to have worked with them again I just uh you know much much respect for the for the player and and for the person and um you know he should be awful proud of the of the career he’s had and and the Legacy left I mean nobody worked harder than that guy every day um and uh you know tip of a hat to him he’s a good man and then another good story Petra Vic just coming in off and then what were his contributions it seems like he was the important part of this especially in double well I mean you know he became available to us the American League team uh lost out he was their Captain down there um the the thing that was intriguing about him was he’s a right shot you know which we thought was important but he’s also played 250 NHL games and he’s also played NHL playoff games and and he’s also a big heavy hard man and uh that’s hockey this time of year thank you [Music] [Music] oh
