Paul Skenes Tosses Six No-Hit Innings in Win | Pirates vs. Cubs Highlights (5/17/24)

Kyle Hendrick taking the mound fast ball at 88 milph the change up he uses it more than any other pitcher in the game last time against the Pirates he threw it 48% of the time and then he’ll sprinkle in the occasional curveball usually he saves that for a second time around the batting order something else to note niik warer still not in the lineup dealing with that left hamstring tightness and it’s a plann day off for SE Suzuki on the ground at Miles meton the cut and retired a ground ball for out number one swinging a Miss straight three k Hendricks Works a very efficient one two3 first inning tall Paul takes him out for the Pirates Paul SCH in his second Big League start second straight start against the Cubs only the one start four Innings seven strikeouts good luck Cubbies swinging a Miss struck him out 100 he blew it right by wow W was right that was impressive three strikes in a row fast ball the spinker and this one right here another four scene fast that just jumps through the strike zone you can tell that maybe a little less nerves right off the bat here today here’s Ian hap who homered yesterday swing the bat goes hurling toward the seats and he’ll go into the Pirates Dugout a nice little catch by Martin perz right off the netting that was a nice catch right there barehanded barehanded grabbed the barrel ha will put some pinear or some sort of sticky substance on that handle so he doesn’t lose it again two and one shows you the kind of swings that guys can take against Paul SK struck him out looking with aund on the inside corner well that’s the best of bat I’ve seen so far from Paul skin fell behind 2 and then he went backwards a little bit couple off speed pitches to get himself back into the count that shows you he’s out there not just throwing he’s thinking and he’s using all his stuff the O2 from Paul sches he struck him out with a 100 Paul SK strikes out the first three Cubs the Cubs couldn’t touch him yeah but in contrast statcast 3D powered by Google Cloud you have a guy whose four seamer averages 87.9 against 100.1 mph in terms of average fastball vo and that’s how quickly the schemes heater gets to home plate well and you see it’s about 7 feet ahead of where Kyle Hendrick’s fast ball would be tell you what brownie this guy is just going to be fun to watch for a long time in the black and gold swing of a Miss struck him out Paul skin his struck out four in a row to start the game he stays with a spinker right here and look at the action on this a sideways tumble Spin and then right there about 5T in front of the plate starts to dip down the last Pirates pitcher to strike out five straight to start a ball game might remember Andre Jackson last year swing in a Miss he struck him out five in a row for Paulk that little rise smile there after that battle he had with Michael bus 10 pitch at bat look at that little smile from SKS one ball two strikes strike three call Paul SKS is struck them allall out six in a row to start the game no Cub can put the ball in play against the Pirates Paul schemes way this feels so far today we may only need one let’s go ahead and get it and he’ll take it AB s Ser it in the left ABS an 0 for 19 hitless drought for rowy tles it’s the lead off man on for the Pirates no scores and the batter now was Jared triolo and a drive to left field deep and the big tree with a big home run to give the Pirates and Paul SK a two nothing lead in the third it’s his second of the Year even with a little bit of a breeze blowing in here r chair triolo able to get one into the bleachers SK has struck out the first six hitters of the game which is far back as we could go to 1974 it’s a Pirates record for any pitcher to start a game this is his second Major League start he’s 21 years years old swaging a as he struck him out seven in a row SK has struck out the first seven Cubs of the game sorry sometimes you’re just speechless not much you can say seven up seven down all be of the strikeout for sches an off speed off speed off speed and then when you’ve got 99 to 101 in the in the tank go ahead and use it that one was buying and a ground ball play made by tles and SK will get over and get the out Pete Crow Armstrong ends that run of seven consecutive strikeouts to start the game the Major League record of nine is intact Pablo Lopez of the Marlins 3 years ago SK might have known there was uh little bit of History here that could have been in the making SK at 21 years old 2-2 swinging a roller on to Third and triolo who’s hit a home run today he’ll get it on to first for the final out Paul skin nine up nine down with seven strikeouts in his second Major League start you know what’s funny Nico Herer I I just got to get this we just showed niiko Herer when Nico horer doesn’t play if you catch him on the bench he always has his mint on it’s really funny he just he sits there with a glove on his hand the games he’s not playing Line Drive left field Nick Gonzalez he’s been a hitting machine since coming back this time and he’ll go into second base with a one out double two outs Gonzalez at second and lifted to left that balls dropping and in for an RBI sing for grandall no chance for ha to get there Gonzalez scores three nothing and a base hit to center field Earle Ramos second base umpire jumps out of the way that base hit by Tes he two for two and a base hit to center field grandall waved home the throw from Pete Crow Armstrong sails over everybody and kicks away like a hockey puck along the boards and that allows tles to score Pirates lead it five to nothing in the fourth inning Mike talkman struck out to start this game skin has struck out seven including the first seven he’s got another strike out second time he’s gotten talkman he has punched out eight of the first 10 he’s faced sped him up and then look at the action of that split there starting on the Outer Edge outer third just runs out of bat swinging a Miss he struck him out he blew half away with 100 mph fast ball Paul SKS with nine strikeouts they can’t touch him KY they can’t touch him oh boy that’s something else Joe well was about all you can say here brownie this is a fast ball on the inner third at 100 milph swinging a little poke on to second that awakens Nick Gonzalez who throws out Bellinger 12 up 12 down for Paul SK he struck out nine Cubs through four Innings and no one’s gotten on base against the 21-year-old pirate here’s Gonzalez who ripped a double his last time up Gonzalez a Fly ball to center field plenty deep a sacrifice fly again Gonzalez having tremendous at bats since this recent recall and he picks up the riby scoring Reynolds from third and it is six nothing and grandall with a line drive to right center field that will score a pair of runs a two-run single the Bucks leading at8 to nothing and the boob Birds Cascade down now here at Wrigley back during his college career at LSU Paul skin had been active in supporting folds of Honor donating $10 for every strikeout he recorded now in the big leagues he’s supporting the Gary phice found Gary Fise Foundation raising funds for our nation’s veterans and First Responders Paul is personally donating $100 for every strikeout he records this season seems like he’s on a good Pace today to have a solid and generous donation Greg Brown a Fly ball to left it’s going to die near the track Morel lifts one to Reynolds two balls two [Applause] strikes oh man they just not seeing that pitch at the bottom of the Zone Paul SK has not gotten a couple of those that could have gone his way and a walk both times against Michael Bush he does not get calls and the fans react to their first base runner against Paul skin it’s a a one out walk in the fifth miles Master bony struck out looking swing and a miss struck him out 10 strikeouts for Paul skin yeah the location of that pitch show was super impressive that’s 99 inside corner top of the Zone it’s just filthy that fast Ball’s filthy up there swinging a bouncer on to short Cruz gloves comes into the infield and throws him out to end the inning five no hit innings for Paul SK Paul SK returns to the Wrigley Field Mound he has struck out 10 Cubs they don’t have a hit through five against him thr Armstrong grounds out to First so they still don’t have a hit against SK but it’s just not going to happen today so you can put that to rest and just enjoy what you’re watching there will not be a a no hitter for Paul schemes and the pitch swinging a ground ball roll to short Cruz up with it cleanly and on to first for the out two outs in the six the Cub still without a hit and now the third time through here’s Mike tochman three 3-2 swing in a Miss he struck him out 100 milph a s strikeouts for SK six Innings of no hit baseball in his first career start on the road what a man wow Paul SCH you got to love it Pittsburgh he’s yours and the new pitcher is going to be Carmen Majin ski for the Pirates replaces Paul skin who went six no hit Innings and struck out 11 and the first hit of the game for the Cubs and this reaction from the crowd delighted that the Cubs won’t be no hit today McCutchen to the plate cutchen nothing for three with a walk and McCutchen lines one to deep left field toward the wall and it’s in the basket for a line drive home run for mcut in his sixth yaza yeah cut continues and find the barrel you see looking over at the monitor you see skes Jared Jones and Mitch Keller just sitting next to each other that’s a beautiful sight right there Joe RI left field Amaya puts a charge in one out of here and the Cubs are on the board Miguel laaya with a solo Homer his second good at bat foray it goes right back to what you were talking about Pat of grinding out a bats no matter the score the bases are now loaded Runners take their leads at all three stations and Morel drives on left Center base hit this could clear the bases it’s all the way to the warning track Bellinger will stop at third on a two-run double by Morel and it’s 9 to3 it’s not over yet we’re only in the eighth inning I think Bush went he did he’s down on strikes and Stratton strands the two runners in scoring position Cubs get three we’ll go to the ninth towards left Center oh and Ian hack with a diving catch there was a little are you going to take it should I take it you know what I’m going to die yeah it’s fun watch watch this play devel kind of floating line drive and both guys have a shot at but the half that leaves his feet and hauls it in really nice play by the gold Glover the 02 from Hunter Stratton here it is strike three call right down the middle let him have it Paul skin is a winner six no hit Innings 11 strikeouts he’s got his first big league w a pirate record 11 strikeouts at Wrigley Field he struck out the first seven batters today of his game and and uh the Pirates are winners N9 to3

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on May 17, 2024. Paul Skenes, in just his second career start, became the first Pirates pitcher to strike out 11 batters at Wrigley Field, while allowing no hits. Andrew McCutchen and Jared Triolo homered, Yasmani Grandal and Triolo each notched three RBI’s, and Connor Joe finished with his second three-hit game of the season.

  1. NOT ONLY did Skenes pitch 6 no hit innings with 11 strikeouts, but the baserunner he allowed on a walk SHOULD have been a strikeout! One of the "balls" caught a piece of the lower strike zone. This dude is a space alien.

  2. I just wanna say that I am 34 years old and my city of Pittsburgh has NEVER had a chance to see great basketball. They always sell us short and break our hearts. Bob Nutting is THE WORST OWNER IN MAJOR LEAGUE SPORTS EVER and if he trades Skenes, he should be forced to sell the team and NEVER SHOW HIS HILL-BILLY face in this CITY OF CHAMPIONS ever again.

We deserve to have a team worth supporting and having a team worthy of that beautiful stadium. WE DESERVE IT PITTSBURGH. NEVER DOUBT IT.

  3. The joy with which Paul Skenes plays and takes his place on the mound, makes him extra fun to watch. Love his incentive of donating a $ 100 for every strikeout. Excellent example of a great and humble player on the rise. Let’s bring that family feeling back to Pittsburgh.

  4. It Looks like Bob Nutting May have a Future Problem on His Hands…If This Kid is as Good as Everyone Projects Him To Be….He, Paul Skenes Will Demand The Largest Contract in the History Of Baseball………Bob, If You are Faced With this Situation, Take the Advice if Michael Keaton and WRITE THE CHECK!

  5. I will never buy a Skenes jersey because he will never stay with this loser mentality of a baseball organization. I’m done spending any of my Pennie’s on this hack team.
