#shotaimanaga became the 1st pitcher since 1913 to have an ERA as low as 0.84 through his 1st 9 starts in a season. He was sensational yet again, striking out 7.

The game was scoreless into the Bottom of the 9th when #codybellinger doubled and then, with 1 out, #christophermorel singled home Bellinger. There was a play at the plate, it was challenged by the #pirates, but it was ruled in favor of the #chicagocubs.

A great game, a better finish, and phenomena starting pitching. #cubswin

  1. What I just never understand with this organization is why they are comfortable going down with bums like Miles Mastrobuoni. He doesn't provide anything. Give the Luis Vazquez kid a shot for a few weeks. What is the harm going to be?

  2. Imanaga bucking for NL Cy Young consideration

Shohei WHO? We got a pure pitcher just as good in Shota (maybe a bit better this season) for WAAAAAAY less money (53M<700M)

  3. And this kids is why you DON'T SHOWBOAT! Save the celebration until AFTER the play is over. If Bart hadn't try to get cute by taking the ball out of his glove to hold the ball up in his free hand while Bellinger was still in motion, Bellinger would've been called out. If not at the plate, then upon the review.

  4. Kap- Much needed victory today.
I just have one question for you or anybody. If Nico was unavailable to PH for a .139 hitting Mastrobuoni in that key spot in the 8th inning against the LHP, why isn’t he on the IL?
If he’s suddenly able to start tomorrow, and I hope he does, it makes it look even weirder.

  5. Someone please give food poisoning to Ian Happ I can't stand watching this guy at the plate anymore give someone else a shot IDC who just stop putting happ in the lineup he's beyond brutal rn

  6. I’ve seen Chicago start well, and then for whatever combination of circumstances they fall out of contention as the season progresses. I appreciate good pitching as well as the pundits, but let me say that without the fast start by Assad and never-tracked Imanaga the Cubs would be five or six games under .500. You know, KAP, as I do that the walk-off by one of the worst-hitting players in baseball, Morel, a .200 hitter who swings at everything and strikes out every third at bat was pure luck. But over the course of the season luck will be a factor. But the Cubbies and their undefeated duo of Assad and Imanaga are getting their share of luck as well. Let’s see how they do in the second half after they’re charted. They’re fine pitching with a lead, but if their pitch count is high and the Cubs have to turn it over to their pen….well, we all know what’s going to happen. You cannot go to the playoffs with this rotation and pen. With all due respect to the historical feat set by Imanaga today.
