Los Angeles City Council declares May 17 as “Shohei Ohtani Day”

[Music] what an honor this is uh to be able to to be with you for this very special recognition uh since 1958 the Los Angeles Dodgers have been uh one of the things that has unified us as a city even through some of our most difficult challenging times uh the Dodgers our beloved Dodgers uh have been a source of unity across Generations across neighborhoods across demographics across status uh the Dodgers are what brings us together seeing seeing Otani and dodger blue is so exciting for us as Dodger fans as someone who’s grown up in Los Angeles growing up as a Dodger fan someone who who who just loves the game of B watching what this man is doing is truly remarkable statistically he is the best player in baseball right now and Mr Otani thank you so much it is May it is Asian-American Pacific Islander heritage month is where we celebrate the different contributions of Asians from across the city of Los Angeles and while we hope you think of Los Angeles as your home away from your other home we want to fill that role because as someone growing up in the city Who Loved Sports wanting to see Asian players wanted to see someone who looked like me and now to have the best player in baseball not only uh you know look look look like someone like me but playing for the Dodgers it’s such a privilege and thank you for everything that you’re doing because we have people in politics we have people in entertainment all the different things and now we have someone in sports thank you so much thank you council president for allowing me to be a part of this presentation because this is truly an honor for me as a Dodger fan ladies and gentlemen of the Los Angeles city council ladies and gentlemen of Los Angeles please welcome the greatest baseball player in America Sho Otani uh [Music] first of all I want to thank thank you know thank you very much for having me today to especially to the LA uh city council I’m in incredibly honored and humbled by the recognition that I’m receiving today and also I want to really thank the uh Dodgers organizations for their continued support uh as well as to the entire people of the city of La thank you well sh on behalf of the Los Angeles city council I’d like you to I’d like to present you with this resolution which we voted on today and which has been signed by uh every member of the council recognizing today as sh Otani day in the city of Los [Applause] Angeles Rond you good

  3. 大谷選手は、同じカリフォルニア州アナハイムのエンゼルスの時、投打での活躍でMVPとなった。日本政府からスポーツなどで秀でた活躍をした選手への内閣総理大臣賞の話がありましたが、その時は、成長の途中だったので、受賞を断りました。

    今年は、リハビリ中で打席だけですが、多くの日本企業がスポンサーとなったり、観客動員数が増えたり、各地からのファンも増え経済効果をもたらした。また、様々な形で寄付金をだし、病気の子供たちや被災者に社会貢献をしている。

    10年間の契約の中で、大谷選手の経済効果や社会的貢献、大リーグでの活躍を期待します。その時は、日米のスポーツを通しての友好や子供たちの将来への夢の懸け橋として、内閣総理大臣賞を受賞すべきと思います🎉🎉🎊🎊

  5. こう言っちゃなんですが、人としてあるべき行動、姿勢、考え方を良い方向に変えたと思ってます、日本人の考え方を全てベストだとは思わないですが、良い習慣を与え続けてるように思います。
    いずれにせよ、小さい子ども達がこれだけの良い見本のような選手に憧れるだけで将来の野球界、人間社会に希望が持てます。

  10. Look at the way he lives his life. Despite Ippei's betrayal, his faith and efforts keep him moving forward. His brilliant success is due not only to his outstanding ability but also to his attitude to overcome difficulties. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

  19. Commemorating a day to a person while they are still alive is rare, this speaks volumes to how much everyone is able to trust Shohei's character it's as pure as it comes
