Tyrese Haliburton on Pacers OT Loss in Game 1 vs. Celtics | 2024 NBA Playoffs

Ty can you just take us kind of through the final minute of the game and what you feel like went wrong for you guys the end of regulation uh just turnovers turnovers I mean I dribbled off my foot in transition um we turned it over on a side out of balance uh that that you know those are two possessions that we can get free throws out of that we you know we messed up uh and then just that last play in the corner I think um you know we were going to foul but the way Jaylen caught it it was like he was just going to shoot it right away so I think Pascal then want to didn’t want to foul him which I thought was the the right play cuz I thought he would have got called for three shots and Jaylen just made a a big shot and then um you know that last possession uh just didn’t get a good one um you know felt felt like there was a better shot for me to get that I didn’t get you have that many free throws as a team did was there a theme to that was it sloppy play from you guys why do you think the number got so high free throws giv up turnovers turnovers yeah um I think it’s more on us I think uh you know they’re a great defensive team they got you know great great Defenders individual and team Defenders um but they’re not they’re not a team who forces a ton of turnovers you know they’re a solid solid team um you know I just felt like we had a lot of a more of them were probably on us than them them forcing them so uh we got to clean that up and uh you know outside of tonight in one game of last series we’ve really taken care of the ball so um we’ll fix it in game two you said you felt like there was a better shot for you get to get I guess if you could elaborate on that I mean did you feel like the first look you got when you were deep is that the one you mean do you wish you would have taken that one or is there anything else you felt like should have gone better in that possession for sure for sure that’s replayed in my head 100 times already and it’ll over playay you know uh after I get out of here but uh I can’t dwell on it you know I felt like that was probably the look for me to shoot and uh wish I did but I didn’t I had to move on over time we were right there just didn’t get enough stops when need be turned it I turned it over down there uh down the stretch but we were right there to win the game still and over time so um you know it happens and uh I learned from it moving forward Tyrese Rick in his comments up there took what he said was full blame for not calling timeout to advance the ball with about 10 seconds left um were you looking for a timeout in that moment and just what’s your reaction to him that’s not on him that’s not on him uh us as us as players we got to do a better job um I had two bad turnovers that that I feel like uh cost us the game one in fourth and one in overtime so um you know I know I understand he’s protecting us protecting uh you know me as well but uh I’ll take that more than more than he should uh I got to be better and I will be better in game two and uh we’ll respond the right way Ty is it more discouraging because you lose a game like this and heartbreaking fashion are encouraging knowing you were toe-to-toe and really you didn’t they didn’t win this game you guys lost it um well they did win and we did lose um I think uh encouraging I mean we know we can play with these guys I mean that’s for y’all to say that we don’t you know there’s a lot of people out here saying we don’t belong here we don’t really care uh we know we belong um I think it’s discouraging just because of the plays that that happened uh you know down the stretch we feel like we were in position to win the game and just didn’t win the game but uh what I say well what I will say is encouraging is we have been trash in game ones for first series and second series and today we we played uh great for about 47 minutes um you know just didn’t didn’t sustain it for 48 so uh we’ll go back watch the film there’ll be good there’ll be bad um and we’ll learn from it and uh we’ll be a lot better in game twoo uh Ty s to harp on the turnovers but the one that you bounce off your foot what were you looking for on that or did you just kind of lose it which one the over time or 27 seconds left when you came up the floor left wing andoun off your foot yes four in the fourth uh I don’t know there was like three different occasions where I dribbled the ball off my foot today um I don’t know what happened um yeah it’s frustrating cuz that’s not something that happens normally for me but uh and I nobody forced it I just dribbled the ball off my foot so frustrating uh to say the least but um you know I’ll learn from it and I’ll be better in game too and then the one on the left wing with holiday and overtime just what have you seen from the phys obviously Drew is a very physical Defender what did you kind of see from him in game one how you need to attack it or what you can do with that going forward yeah I mean he’s the best defender in the NBA um he has been for a long time um I was trying to get him as far to to the left wing as I could so I could come downhill to my right um and I had the spin to set it up and I just tripled it off my foot uh so it’s it’s unfortunate it’s frustrating for sure but it happens we make mistakes we’re human um and uh I learned from it you know and I’ll be better in game two did you Angela hey Ty uh Aaron was pretty vocal walking off the court few expletives everybody else was silent how much does this one really sting though for this team and how much anger do you guys have with how it ended yeah it’s frustrating I mean uh it of course it’s frustrating like we felt like we were in position to win the game but uh you can’t dwell on it you know um what I will say I mean we’ve lost every game one but we’ve responded well in all all these game twos so um you know I expect that from this group I expect us to be ready to go um and yeah I mean we’re we’re all human like we’re supposed to be frustrated right now um but you can’t dwell on it like be mad about it you know but once you shower get it off you know be ready to watch film tonight and tomorrow morning and you know it it’s it’s a new day tomorrow and uh at the end of the day if we won tonight we weren’t winning the series automatically anyway so uh we understand there’s still a lot more work to do and uh we’ll respond the right way thank you T

  1. Listen, this the ECF! This not supposed to be easy, each game is going to be a fight. Boston going to get tested finally, heading into the finals sharp and ready for a chip

  2. Haliburton needs to admit the fact that his team got locked up at the end of the regulation and in OT. The Pacers were not committing unforced turnovers. JB deflected that inbounds pass to Siakam; Holiday forced that Haliburton turnover on the baseline, and JB stripped Siakam under the hoop. Oh and at the end of regulation, Tatum forced Haliburton into a nearly impossible shot with lockdown D.

  3. I'm a die-hard celts fan but gotta respect this kid after this interview alone…definitely a young leader and I'm sure this mentality will lead them to at least a couple wins this series

  4. The Celtics are insanely overrated. The entire civilized world rooting for Pacers. Even if Celtics somehow upset the Pacers, they're going to fall short in the finals. Either western team lightyears better than Indy and Indy toe to toe with Boston.

  5. Dam Mr choke wearin hoodie not smiling today suck a bozo talks so much win he wins but wen he loses he gets a taste of humble pie lol Knicks will spank u next yr on bby

  6. 1st off the Celtics had 6 days off so they were rusty, 2nd, Celtics have a lot to clean up as well they gave the pacers a lot of free shots free 3’s silly turnovers etc the Celtics will clamp pacers as series moves forward

  7. Indiana should've won game one during regulation, but the referees bailed Boston out forcing the overtime period, the Celtics get all of the calls at home. Really, Indy's not even supposed to be still in the NBA playoffs.

  8. Yeah Ty, you just so happened to dribble the ball of your foot 3 times. Had nothing to do with the fact that Jrue was in your fucking shorts.
