Don Sweeney on the Bruins Planned Aggressive Offseason || Boston Has Entered The Chat

all right I want to rip through some sound bites with you and react on the back end so don Sweeney you know had his end of the season press conference and there was a lot going on so I want to get to all these so let’s go rapid fire here here’s Don Sweeney on signing Jeremy San which we’ve talked about a bunch to a long-term deal take a listen well it’s clearly a priority and Jeremy knows I’ve told him this he took us arbitration just just for clarity sake um and again that part of it no different than Trent Frederick and being there and being able to settle sometimes those things happen in the course of business and and uh it’s it’s not an indication of whether or not we didn’t believe in Jeremy s and whether or not we don’t think he’s a big part of our future we clearly engaged in conversation during the regular season to to find a longer term extension we haven’t gotten there yet it’s a priority now it’ll continue to be a priority until we we get that across the Finish Line he’s a big part of our our our current team in the run that he went on in the playoffs and our future remember what you said you’d give Jeremy Swan a blank check blank check that’s what he’s fighting for right you hear Don Sweeney said he took us to arbitration because he wanted to fight to the end and he came out in the playoffs and proved it the Bruins know what they have to do six seven I don’t even want to say six seven eight million a year yeah seven years you have him till he’s 32 33 yeah I mean but wait there’s more there’s another damn good goalie involved here in lenus allmark Don Sweeney on allm Mark’s future take a listen to this we’re going to find a landing spot with Jeremy Swan and and if we can make the math work we’re going to have the best stand them if we can’t we’re going to explore or Andor lenus you know may come to us and change his mind that may they may that may occur as well right now he’s really happy we were very happy to sign lenus and and and in perfect world we would we would keep the tandem because I think it’s it’s damn good um but we’re going to explore opportunities I my phone’s going to ring I’m going to make calls that’s just what the job requires well I hope that it is a perfect world because I want to keep both of them and you and I have talked about this where we just don’t believe that that’s going to happen due to the circumstances and the the logistics of the whole thing of keeping both but we saw that both obviously work especially in the regular season and then once you got to the postseason you should ride the hot hand that was Jeremy Swan so we understand that as well but moving forward Boy George even just hearing that that sound there it doesn’t feel like we’re going to have the tandem moving forward he said it with lenus may come to us and change his mind yeah that screams pay cut to me like you’re not going to get 5 million a year right because if you both want to stay they’re not going to pour 10 11 12 million 13 into that position and then he said once we come to an agreement with Jeremy Jeremy’s a priority in San then they’ll figure out lenus and credit to Don Sweeney man he said a point blank period my phone will ring and I will take them teams will come calling because he understands higher than what it was at the trade deadline in the NHL regular season more teams need a goalie right now right and lenus still young 30 years old is a great goal tender in the NHL can be a goalie for an NHL team yes so what he’s saying is and he knows what he’s doing teams come calling I will pick up I will listen if we could get they don’t have a first round pick first second or third in this draft they don’t have a second round pick in next year’s draft if you could get draft picks if you can get a left shot defenseman in return and also by the way trb it relieves around 500 million in cap space for 500 five million a year in cap space for this team yeah he’s saying to me that we’re GNA shop the Futures Jeremy we’ll see what we can do with lenus and that’s what I’m reading into on what he’s saying there that’s what it sounds like to me because it it makes sense you found your goalie in the playoffs if you trade Lance you get more cap space and you can address what his team needs yeah another more scoring I I mean look you said it you don’t know if you’re really ever going to get fair market value for a guy like him right but at the end of the day you need to get something and so I I’m with you on that I don’t think you know you’re going to get the hall maybe that a lot of the fans would would want and would prefer and would hope but hey something is better than nothing so I think you do at least start to engage in some of those talks now you and I have gone back and forth on Jake deus’s future here with the Bruins you have told me he’s going to go get the bag Travis prepare yourself cuz you know I’m a de Brusque fan and I’ve said look I hope he takes a reasonable team-friendly deal if they can get close to the bag he can get on the market I hope that he stays well Don swey provided some insight on that situation negotiations a two-way street um we’ve we took an aggressive position with with Jake um no different than you other players that have chosen not to resign um and explore that’s that’s his within his right certainly at this time of the here do I see a path yeah there’s a path and I told him that at our exits that you know he’s been a big part of our group he elevated in the playoffs um and I I would prefer to have Jake Rusk on our team um but he has some some opportunity in front of him that that he may pursue otherwise this sounds like and I hate saying these words George is g to be right it sounds like the Bruins offered him a paycheck but a HomeTown discount paycheck which I and Jake de Brusque hey he said winning is his priority he can go home to Edmonton or he can get paid by a team like the Blackhawks or the sharks or the Devils or the Red Wings that need that veteran that Bruins culture in their dressing room you’re closer here you’re close here you’re so close you just need some more help offensively but it has to M the money has to make sense because Jake with with Jake D brusa on the ice yeah that didn’t that didn’t cover up or blanket them needing a Top Line Center another Dynamic Wing another guy in the def uh another defenseman as well right no you’re right you’re right I hate saying it but George is right all right how about this we’ve talked about this and we all agree all of us in this chat agree that the Bruins just need to add players this offseason particularly on the scoring side of things Don Sweeney talked about that as well we’re going to be aggressive you know to be able to compliment uh what we currently have in some areas um you know our team played hard um you know to Kevin’s point of whether or not we can play faster or whether or not we can find players that will uh you know create more anxiety in the for check and some of the situations that uh you know certainly you look at the teams that are still playing they do a really good job of that and and pockets of time we did um otherwise we wouldn’t have still been playing you know the teams that are still playing are are are damn good they’ve earned the right to be there and we didn’t um it’s hard to get in it’s hard to continue to win but I’ve got to find the players that that compliment our current group and push us forward that sound bite reminded me of you George because I remember you telling me I was out and I watched the end of a Bruins Panthers game and then the West Coast I think it was a Stars game came on after and and the speed was completely different hearing him say that makes me think he felt the same way watching that and is going to try to make the Bruins a little bit closer to that because you have to watch these teams vying for the Stanley Cup and know how far away you are yes and that says it all to me we have to be aggressive compliment what we currently have you have toughness you have defense you have goal tending go out and get a oneline center and Elias Lindholm and then that kicks back pav zaka Charlie Coyle Morgan geeki geeky could play the wing too so maybe MADD potra slots in on your four C and then you have a brazzo Patra geeky line not terrible need to get a top six Wing Sam rard down there Jonathan marasol who’s a veteran and coming off a career year with the Knights but they don’t have cap space maybe bring a Tyler bruzi back they need to get a left shot defenseman but I think it all starts you have to go after Elias Lindholm you have to get a number one Center that can play with David Po and help be a dynamic playmaker for him because he can’t do it on his own and then also you need to get another top six scoring Winger and a marshaa coming off a six year $30 million contract that’s five mil a year he’s probably hunting for six to seven the money does work but they’re going to have to make some gosh yeah I mean this they need so much and they don’t have all the money in the world they do have enough to make it work 22 and half million just feels like you you have no wiggle room to miss right like the moves you do make must be impactful because you just don’t have the wiggle room to miss sometimes we see teams with plenty of money they can afford literally to miss Bruins can’t do that and stepen stampco 34 years old he’s out there too yeah then that’s older and then that’s a short term I like lindol because of that but St Co is out there right brusi might get a discount he bet on himself with the cap space it didn’t work and hey the Mason Lise the Matty patras that gives you wiggle room because those guys are going to be big contributors if they could stay healthy

  1. Lindholm is not a first line center. Both coyle and zacha had better numbers than him this year.i don’t think they need another defenseman unless it’s a bottom six pairing that’s tough as nails. Bye gryz

  3. Potentially spending at least $12 million / year on goal is not a good plan. Use that extra space on a number one centre or a solid first pairing partner for Charlie McAvoy. The playoffs showed that Charlie got exposed by trying to do too much. Hopefully a d’man that can run a power play.
