Malcolm koun was the guy especially in the second half of the season last year was the guy for the silver and black it was great to see him do what he does but who can do that in 2024 and can they have that breakout season at the beginning as opposed to Midway through all that will come up segment number two of today’s lockdown Raiders podcast here in segment number one just a few news and wide receiver Alex Bachman uh he joins the team after spending last season on the Texans practice squad he was originally drafted as or originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Rams in 2019 also spent time on the Giants practice squad and active roster between 2019 and 2022 playing in four career games he’s a native of Westlake Village California played four years at Wick Forest he had uh 82 catches 1162 yards and 10 TDS but the big thing here for me it’s not the signing of the wide receiver it’s not the fact that they made it official and they did make it official they sent out an email and everything a lot of times we’ll find out about these moves before they actually become official but who did they release who did they move off of the active roster the 90 man roster to make room room for bman that’s really my big question I’m sure we’ll find out sooner rather than later but is it someone that got released is it someone that they you know put on the the uh injured reserve is it somebody who’s like on the resir retired Reserve list I don’t I don’t know like we have no idea but as I have the current roster the 90 man roster in my hand that I received on Tuesday at Raiders OTAs there’s 90 guys on that roster so and you know what there’s actually I actually solved the problem myself there was only 89 hold on 55 is on here yep there you go never mind see we did that in real time we worked it out together sometimes we just need to work out our problems so they didn’t have to release somebody they didn’t have to put someone on injur reserve David AG Goa number 55 remember he’s the uh the player from Nigeria so he’s on that he’s not he doesn’t count against a 90 man roster so there you go so actually they’re allowed to have 91 because again he doesn’t count on the 90 man roster just like he didn’t count he wouldn’t have counted on the 53 man roster last year and he wouldn’t have counted on the 16 man practice squad last year so there you go Raider Nation me and you together worked that out all we had to do was you know sometimes they say just sound it out that’s all we had to do was silent it out so now I feel a lot better Alex Bachman signed on Wednesday by the silver and black uh also we heard rumors about the league potentially expanding to 18 games and I don’t think any of us would be surprised if Roger Goodell came out and said yeah you know what we’re going to move this on to 18 games it’s only been three seasons since it’s been 17 games but as soon as the league went to 17 games we all knew that 18 games was right around the corner Roger Goodell was in Nashville for the owners meetings and he actually said I think we’re good at 17 right now that’s what he told ESPN he said but listen we’re looking at how we can continue I’m not a fan of the preseason I don’t think we need three preseason games I’d rather replace a preseason game with a regular season game any day that’s just picking quality right if we got to 18 and two that’s not an unreasonable thing so again I don’t know when they’re going to expand to 18 regular season games I just know at some point they’ll expand to 18 regular season games and Roger Goodell clearly wants to do that as well and get rid of preseason games and that’s fine right I mean that’s fine to have 18 regular season games and and only two preseason games even though that’s still wear and tear on the players bodies right because a lot of the players especially the main players don’t play in the preseason anyway so 17 is already tough 18 will be tough maybe they’ll give two by weeks who knows but you already know at some point they’re going to expand to 18 games but I just thought it was funny where he said yeah I think we’re good right now but look it’s only been three years since the league has been at 17 games so that I found to be pretty interesting this I found to be great this I found to be something that everyone could use in their everyday life and every once in a while I like to bring something to the table that has to do with life not just football but it has to do with life I like to bring those really good nuggets and I found this nugget to be great Tom Brady Jay-Z Michael Rubin they were in La over the past weekend and they were talking to a handful of rookies like Caleb Williams Drake May Bo Nicks Malik neighbors Jaden Daniels and the Raiders Brock Bowers and I just love what Tom Brady had to say I Love Actually I love what all three of the guys had to say because again it translates to the NFL but also translate to real life and sometimes you just need to hear it from someone who has greatness in their DNA which all those guys Brady Jay-Z and Michael Rubin have all seen a lot of greatness in their life so here’s what they had to say to the rookies in La the past weekend when you have 53 guys on the team and you think it’s about you it ain’t about you it’s about us and the biggest problem I see with a lot of the young players today you guys are making it too much about I am me because of social media because of branding and all that it’s fine you’re not going to win there was a difference between being a star and being a champion your talent gets you there you know your work ethic and your discipline takes you to where you want to be every day of practice is important you know why cuz when I was on the Patriots and we had 20 years winning every day was a big day I treated a preseason game I treated a regular te like it was a Super Bowl so when I got to the Super Bowl it was just another day for me you got to know who you are cuz those moments going to come going to be down 28th to zero you got to say all right I know who I am I’m going to go get it I’m unrelenting like I will not quit in anything I do and I I never got there on you know educational background I never out there on on skill just it was work ethic and hustle there should be nobody in your life that should have higher expectations for you than you you going to evolve or you’re not you going to keep evolving or you’re not and if you’re not the world still spins if you’re forever curious you’ll always keep getting better so I thought that was great I mean I really do it kind of is right up my alley you know you hear Michael Rubin saying look I didn’t have no education I just had a hustle and work ethic right you hear Jay-Z talking about continue to reinvent yourself and continue to work and if you don’t you just stand still and you’re not curious it’s okay cuz the world’s going to keep on spinning you hear Tom Brady talking about you know practice and play like every game is a Super Bowl when you get to the Super Bowl it’s not going to matter right it’s just another game so I love the information the knowledge that they were dropping on all those players again the rookies were all in LA and they do this each and every year but Caleb Williams Drake May Bo Knicks Malik neighbors jayen Daniels of course the Raiders Brock came into conversation I was here obviously locally here in Las Vegas and I was at the local TV station Fox 5 news and each and every week we record a show sometimes it has to do with the Raiders sometimes has to do with the aces the golden knights whatever the case may be something here locally in Las Vegas so I’ve been getting used to doing this show each and every week so we recorded it on Wednesday and one of the questions that the host asked was who do you think is going to be the breakout player for the Raiders in 2024 so before I could answer that I thought well who was the breakout player in 2023 and then immediately I thought of Malcolm C right Malcolm C was the guy that for a while didn’t know what he was going to do like his rookie year saw glimpses thought okay this guy has a little something something then all a sudden it just kind of went away right he just he wasn’t that guy he was really you know kind of a special teams guy and even when Antonio Pierce took over he said he kind of got lost in the shuffle and didn’t know what his role was on the team but after AP took over you saw him take off so I feel like Malcolm Co really broke out I’m so excited to see what he does in 2024 to build off of what he did in 2023 and remember he’s going into a a contract year right so of course he’s really going to want to ball out but him being out there and him being you know more of a leader now as well lets you know that okay he has arrived and it’s funny I was looking at Pro Football Focus on Wednesday and I saw where they had uh the Raiders and their three best players and they had the three best players for every single team in the league but for the Raiders they had Devonte Adams Colton Miller and Max Crosby but then they also considered linebacker Malcolm Co so that lets you know that he even caught the attention of Pro Football Focus so I thought about it when I was asked that question that Fox 5 sports you know hey so what you know who do you think is going to be the breakout player for the Raiders in 2024 and I really thought of two guys and they’re two two guys that are both seconde guys Tyree Wilson the number seven overall pick he played in 17 games his rookie year he had 16 solo tackles three and a half sacks a force fumble and a fumble recovery and you would probably look at that line and say that’s not bad it’s not bad if you’re a third or fourth round pick not if you’re a number seven overall but again Tyree Wilson was drafted with the expectations he was going to sit behind Chandler Jones and learn and we all know the whole Chandler Jones situation uh went away quick fast and a hurry and it got pretty ugly and I say it almost all the time matter of fact anytime I talk about Chandler Jones I hope he’s doing okay right cuz obviously that was a situation that was bigger than football but getting back to Tyreek Wilson you could see that he wasn’t comfortable immediately you know we talked to him on Tuesday following practice and you know he he let it be known that he was the Big Man on Campus when he was at Texas Tech and then all of a sudden he arrived in the NFL and he’s the low man on the totem pole and you know he had to be humbled a little bit right he had to also learn the speed of the game and everybody was the best of the best where he was the best on that team and the best in that conference while he was you know playing in the Big 12 all of a sudden he arrives in the NFL and everybody is the best of the best so he had to learn you saw him look like he was getting off the line really slowly when he first got acclimated or was trying to get acclimated to the NFL he was obviously rehabbing his foot and so it just it just didn’t start off right and it got better towards the end of the season but it was almost one of those like a red shirt season whatever you were able to get from him his rookie year was really gravy so with that being said it’s almost kind of obvious why I believe he’s going to be the breakout player he’s healthy when I saw him on Tuesday he looks better right even even though he didn’t look bad his rookie year same size same weight but he’s just more rocked up he’s more muscular he more built he’s not you know I don’t want to say soft because I don’t think Tyreek Wilson was ever soft but you could just see that he’s worked on his body a little bit as well and he also sounds a lot more confident right if I had more time I’d play his presser from uh from Tuesday cuz you could just hear Tyrie and it was only about four and a half minutes but his rookie year that would have been two and a half minutes I mean he he just he sounds more confident he looks more confident what he’s doing and not to mention the Raiders defensive line got better with the addition of Christian Wilkins not to mention I mentioned Malcolm Co the breakout he had in 2023 he’s going to be a big- time player along that defensive line Max is Max so I feel like a lot of pressure is going to be off Tyreek Wilson where he’s not going to think about being number seven overall and he’s just going to be able to go out there and do right so I know he only had three and a half sacks and I don’t really want to put a number on it like you have to get this or or you’re you know not successful you know I think that he should easily double what he had at least with three and a half you know he should be able to at least double that in 2024 but more importantly he needs to be a disruptive force and I think Patrick Graham’s going to be able to use him up and down the line right they could put him inside like they did uh quite a bit at the end of 2023 they can kick him outside and have him as an edge rusher but just as a disruptive Force as long as he’s getting pressures if he’s batting some balls down if he’s getting sacks if he’s helping create turnovers if he’s recovering fumbles like all that plays a part in it he just has to be a disruptive force and be a key cog on that defensive line even if it’s part of a healthy rotation right as long as you’re playing your role that’s a success I was actually asked like do you see Tyreek Wilson as a bus I was like no no he had one year and he came in injured I’m not g I’m definitely not going to put a bus label on him when he was injured when he was drafted right that’s not his fault that he was drafted number seven overall and he had an injured wheel I had no problem with them drafting him at number seven by the way I was a big Tyreek Wilson fan I still am I still think he can bring a lot to the the table that’s why I’m excited about what he can do in 2024 so defensively he’s my my my my my player that I think is going to break out for the silver and black but I also wanted to I didn’t want to Short change the Raiders and I want to say okay who can break out as far as the offense goes and that was hard it really was because I mean I could say Brock Bowers but he’s a rookie right I could say Michael Mayer but I’m not too sure what the one-w punch is going to look like how Luke gety is going to do it zamir white I think that he showed a little bit of what he could do at the end of the season 2023 so I guess I could have gone in that direction as well as he’s going to be tasked with carrying the load but then I thought about Trey Tucker and one I always overlooked Trey Tucker so I was actually proud of myself for not overlooking Trey Tucker but I thought about him he was drafted in the third round in 2023 was number 100 overall as a matter of fact he had 19 catches on the season for 331 yards not a whole lot of production two touchdowns but 17.4 yards per catch so not too bad right I mean two TDS 17.4 yards per catch you’ll take that you just want to see more production but the reason why I have him as a guy that I think can break out offensively is because of everyone else that’s going to be on the field he may just like he gets lost in the shuffle in my head sometimes he may get lost in the shuffle on the field if you have Devonte out there if you have jacobe Myers out there if you have Brock Bowers out there if you have Michael Mayer out there and somehow you slide Trey Tucker out there he could end up being lost in the wash right and all of a sudden he may be able to hit some home run plays where he might not have you know 100 catches I’m not looking saying and he’ll break out like that but he may be able to you know make that that 17.4 go up to close to the 20 right or or or maybe 17.4 but you know doubles those catches right 40 something catches and maybe six touchdowns because he’s able to have some big plays because again he’s getting lost in the wash right I think there’s going to be a lot of quick hidden plays coming out of the quarterback if it’s Aden OK conell or Garner menu I think it’s going to be a lot of quick hitters coming out of their hands getting it into The Playmakers hands like at Devonte and at jacobe Meyers Brock Bowers Michael Mayor but I believe there’s going to be an opportunity to stretch the field and you can’t really you know double the Deep threat so he’ll have that opportunity he’ll get a lot of one-on-one coverage and we know his speed can beat just about anybody he’s just got to make sure he works on his footwork and his hands right that was the one thing that that slowed him down I mean you look at his numbers that he had in his rookie year he probably has what at least one to two more touchdowns and probably about a handful more catches and maybe even 100 more yards if he’s in bounds if he doesn’t juggle the ball if he doesn’t drop the ball I mean there was there was just concentration moments where you could tell he was not 100% sure so if he’s been on The Jug machines if he’s been working on his hands not bobbling the ball and working on his feet he could really be a productive player now that’s on him and I’m just trusting that with the the way that they have the culture built so far with the Raiders and the way that they are all out there working trying to get after it I’m just going to assume and trust that he’s one of the guys that is getting after it and is trying to learn from a guy like Devonte trying to learn from a guy like ja Kobe Myers and continue to get better and better and better and we’ve seen that from times so I I I think that Trey Tucker has the opportunity I think Tyree Wilson will definitely Break Out 24 I think Trey Tucker has the opportunity to break out in 2024 but he’s got to put in the work obviously but if you could add that element that Arsenal to the Raiders offense all of a sudden you’re cooking with grease you know you go from trying to score 20 to saying yeah uh the team is scoring at least 24 per game if you can add that extra element that that deep threat that home run ball we know the Raiders want to do we know AP wants to do so that’s going to be my guy so Tyree Wilson defensively I do feel like he’s going to break out in a major way and Trey Tucker offensively I feel like has the opportunity to break out in a major way who is it that you think could be the Raiders breakout player in 2024 70765 4- 4693 you don’t have pool but you put the work in to be noticed around the facility so here’s my question will the team Rock a double zero patch on the uniforms this year or even one better on the home opener everyone rocks a double zero for either a quarter or dang it the whole game I think it’d be really cool if they could somehow pay homage to the original Raider thanks Q for everything you do have either a patch on their Jersey a sticker on their helmet I know for the home opener it’ll be week three I’m sure they’ll really pay homage because the first two games are on the road but yeah they’ll definitely do something for Jim Auto and I know they’ll do it big because it’s near and dear to Mark Davis’s heart you saw that he lit up the Al Davis Memorial torch in honor of Jim Auto so that kind of lets you know exactly where they stand and that they definitely are going to do something I don’t know what it is U but if I find it out I’ll definitely let you know in advance thanks so much for the text I do appreciate you up next got a call from Raider Izzy he’s calling to talk about the two tight end system and as it pertains to the Raiders and brings up a team in particular that he feels like could compare to the situation the Raiders find themselves in and explains it to us now here he is Raider Izzy what up to you Raider Izzy uh wonder if throw uh throw something that year I was kind of been doing a lot of research with like um two tight end systems and um it’s a little different because of the fact that Bowers can kind of move all over the place but um so naturally I started watching the 2011 Patriots with you know grank and Hernandez and everything and it’s uh some fun stuff with Hernandez because of his athleticism I can kind of see them utilizing some stuff with with Brock but um something I didn’t think of and um this kind of came up not so much the tight end system but the 2017 Vikings um really similar situation to what we’re in now so 2016 they go uh 8 and8 I think it was with Bridgewater um you know don’t really have too much of a Direction but had a lot of a lot of like you know star power on offense they had you know Diggs they had SE and Kyle Rudolph um 2017 I think they drafted dvin cook 2017 they went um 13 and3 with case Keenan um case Keenan’s first year in that offense comes in does a great job um they simplified the offense for him but he had a ton of talent around him had a good offensive line their defense had everon Griffin had like 13 sacks that year deil Hunter was obviously there like um kind of reminds me of the situation we’re in a ton of players but the quarterback position just isn’t there yet but at the same time all these different role players all these different skill sets all these different you know pieces will just help the quarterback so if we can simplify the offense which ironically I heard a lot in interviews talking about how difficult it was with Josh McDaniel’s offense and how this one seems to be a little bit more simplified um that’s a that’s a team not saying we’re going 13 and three but that that team kind of shows how we can be successful just by not necessarily having a Star Quarterback but being able to you know utilize the pieces that we have just by simplifying the offense and letting them be the stars that they are so kind of a cool thing I thought of but um yeah just want to to throw that out your way I love your show as always bro later Izzy thanks so much for the call my man the Vikings in 2017 with Case Keenum man that’s a great comparison only because Case Keenum was not a big time name he’s not a big- Time performer at the quarterback position you know that he was never Elite but he had a hell of a year he also signed a pretty big free agent deal with Denver for what 36 million 25 million guaranteed and I know that’s not a ton of money now but for Case Keenum that was a lot of money he only lasted one year in Denver and then became a journeyman the ultimate journeyman following that so uh I like how you you worded that that’s that’s a team I hadn’t thought of they went 13 and three as you mentioned they had a really good team around a quarterback that was just good right and good for them wasn’t even really great or very good anywhere else but he was good for them so I I like that I’m not saying that the Raiders are going to go 13 and three but it’s showing that it can be done so I I like how you brought that up that’s really good knowledge on your part man thanks so much for that call I do appreciate you up next got a pretty lengthy text from Todd in San Diego it says Q it’s Todd from San Diego I’m listening to your Tuesday pod the auto tribute which is really good by the way great stuff I appreciate getting to hear the Hall of Fame speech again but I want to address in segment number three the caller who commented on the fans in the stands said Q I’ve had season tickets since the mood to Vegas but I live in San Diego and I know a ton of other season ticket holders that live live outside of Vegas San Diego La Bay Area Sacramento Arizona Utah you name it as such we can’t go to every single home game I wish I could but the logistics are just that I can’t but when the opportunity came up to get season tickets something I dreamed about since I was 10 years old I had to jump on it so I sell games I can’t go to and many of us don’t just sell to the highest bidder when I meet Raider fans I give them my number if they want tickets we’re on groups social media Discord with other Raider fans trying to get silver and black colors in our seats and I know for myself I offer lower prices to Rider fans sometimes I do have to sell on the ticket exchange but mostly I try not to since I want to see Raider fans in the seat so please don’t just assume us season ticket holders are mass selling to anyone and everyone we care just as much as any other fan hell we put up all the PSL money so of course we care yeah maybe I should have clarified what I meant a lot of the and I understand where you’re coming from and I I know a ton of season ticket holders so I totally know where you’re coming from a lot of season ticket holders that are here in Vegas locally bought the tickets immediately a lot of the season ticket holders that uh live here in Vegas sell their tickets immediately right and I know that there are plenty of of of season ticket holders like you that sell tickets and look for Raider fans in specific to sell it to but I also know when I go on you know game time when I go on wherever I go to you know to get tickets at times for family and friends that want to go to games there’s never a shortage of them right so uh I’m not saying you specifically and you’re right I shouldn’t just lump sum everybody but a lot of people are selling them just to get you know the most the most money and people have called in my radio shows like yeah I sell them because if I sell two or three sets of tickets they pay for my whole package because I could sell it at a super high price so you’re right it’s not everyone uh I apologize for making that assumption but there are a lot of fans out there and a lot of people that hold season tickets that are just selling them to the highest bidder just to make a profit and a lot of them are here locally in town I’m not going to lie about that at all country Raider um just kind of calling and responding to uh caller tadr from yesterday’s show he said he was talking about you know if he’s going if Aiden’s going to take that two-year leap or that or sophomore slump and I I see a leap coming um one thing is like when people say about the the two-year slump is is teams get film on guys and and they kind of learn their Tendencies but Aiden didn’t have a full season want to pick for people to pick up on Tendencies of him and two um he’s going to be running a new scheme right now so I think him coming in with a new scheme him getting a full off season as the guy I don’t think teams are really going to know really what to expect from Aiden you know I it was a small sample size I don’t think you know like I said I don’t think they can really get a good eye for what Aiden’s gonna do I think he’s gonna he’s definitely gonna take a step a step forward If he if he does win the quarterback battle um I I like how what I’m hearing from him I like his interviews I like uh how he how he held himself in on Max Cy podcast I’m excited to see what Aiden brings and um yeah that’s all that’s all I got um thank Q first listener of the day uh sh started to take that next step at the end of year one right he really started to seem like he got comfortable at the end of year one it’s not like he just bowled out all season long he got better as the season went along and you saw him especially that last handful of games really start to come along as far as no turnovers go uh you know better understanding execution of the game plan his biggest thing to me is that he’s going to have to learn how to get the ball out of his hand quicker cannot hold on to the ball cannot hold on to the ball I know he wants to make a play but at some point especially in this Luke getsy offense he’s going to have to get rid of The Rock and if he doesn’t that’s going to open up the door for Garner mshu to be the starter right because Gardner mry will get that ball out of his hand quickly so if aen no conell wants to be the starter I have him pegged to be the starter then he’s going to have to make sure he gets rid of that rock quickly he can’t sit back there hold on to it pat it pat it pat it I saw him do that a few times on Tuesday and Paul gueras leaned over and said that’s a sack that’s a sack that’s a sack can’t can’t Pat Pat Pat the ball right you can Pat the ball and get rid of it not Pat Pat Pat that three Pats is going to Pat you on the back if you know what I mean so uh thanks so much for that text I do appreciate you got time for that the Raiders will be very good in 2024 I keep hearing on peacock and Williamson that the Raiders will be competing with the bottom dwellers of the league for the first overall pick I get the Raiders don’t have a proven quarterback but they’re also saying the defense isn’t any good hopefully you can get on their show and set them straight someday soon that’s Jason the 530 and thanks for the text and I don’t know why I I respect those guys I don’t know why they would say the defense isn’t very good defense was damn good right and and they they know football they know that the defense was damn good I don’t understand and I haven’t heard them say that they haven’t invited me on the show that’s for sure um not too sure about that you know and I have heard you know people say that they think that the Raiders are going to be competing for the number one overall pick I don’t see that maybe I’m looking through silver and black glasses I don’t think so I try to be a lot more objective than that I don’t try to just you know say that the Raiders raah Rah raah be that cheerlead I’m not trying to be that guy at all uh I also don’t try to be you know a negative n and just sit there and and you know everything is Doom and Gloom right I try to live around the the the middle even ground right and I I don’t I don’t see that I don’t know where they’re coming from i’ would love for them to explain it to me but I just I just don’t know and um you know I could reach out to them and get them on the show but it sounds it sounds like they’re just pretty negative on on the Raiders in general so I know that uh Williamson I believe he’s a what Steelers guy and peacock is a 49ers guy so maybe that’s the reason why I’m not too sure but there’s that but Jason thanks so much for that
