IS UTAH’S NHL TEAM ABOUT TO MAKE A HUGE SPLASH IN THE 1ST ROUND OF THE NHL DRAFT? #nhl #nhldraft

during his tenure as general manager of the Arizona Coyotes Bill Armstrong had a notoriously Chief owner who would not let him spend any money the past few seasons so now that the team is relocated and they’ve got a brand new owner we’re asking the big question today is the NHL’s Utah franchise about to make a huge Splash in the first round of this year’s NHL draft hey everybody Welcome in clear on the bench is your One-Stop shop for daily fresh hockey contest if you go ahead and hit your subscribe button right now every single day we’ll bring you in a new hockey video to enjoy well when I think of Bill Armstrong’s time as GM especially the past few years in Arizona you know it’s like in the movie King Kong when they’ve got him all chained up you know people are walking right up close to him nobody’s impressed everyone’s like n no big deal he’s you know we’re safe but now now they’ve moved on to Utah and the chains are off and I’m asking today is Utah going to make several moves in the first round of this draft first of all let’s take a look at GM Bill Armstrong all you have to say about him is he loves size and analytics I had a chance to speak to him at a team function last season uh first of all he’s a really really nice guy and second of all he knows his stuff and he’s very businesslike you know just consider myself an average fan and you know I asked him a question hey what do you think about you know such and such and he was like you know we’re big Believers and analytics and he went right into you know a Spiel and everything he said made a lot of sense to me so I thought you know he’s really really an analytics type of guy and you know when you look at last year’s draft he made two surprise picks and I think both of those picks were based on analytics so first thing we’re going to do is we’re going to take a look at the Utah franchise has the sixth pick in this upcoming draft we’re going to take a look at the six picks in NHL history and there are some huge names on this list Paul coffee Phil Howley um both of them are assistant coaches on teams that are in the semi-finals right now uh copy’s on the Edmonton bench and housley’s on the Rangers bench Peter forsberg Vincent dampo John mlan Derek sorry m z banad Oliver emman lson Ryan Smith of Edmonton Don Murdoch New York Rangers upand Comer and his career got derailed by personal demons uh Doug Wilson Chicago Blackhawk Superstar then he went on to be the GM in San Jose forever recently you got a couple of guys Matthew kachuk pble zaka uh when you look at the recent overall number six picks you’re looking at 2018 and 2019 Detroit had both Philip Zaden and Maurice cider 2020 the Ducks had Jamie Dale 2021 Detroit again with Simon Edinson and 2022 it was David Urich and last year Arizona made sashev the pick with the number six overall uh pick when you look at the recent Arizona draft picks uh a couple of years back Barrett Hayden and Victor srom were drafted High Hayden went fifth overall it hasn’t worked out really for him so far soderstrom 11th overall and I just don’t think it’s going to work out I saw him up close he’s a smaller defenseman uh and I just don’t see it working out now guys that I do see it working out for them uh Dylan Gunther Logan kolie Josh Don uh they have uh Conor geeky and Maverick lamro in the pipeline about to make this team so in their recent selections they’ve got a lot of guys that are going to be playing on this team real soon when we take a look at their options at number six okay first of all they could keep the pick and they could make their own selection I personally think that if salab or Lindstrom are available uh Bill Armstrong’s going to knock somebody over trying to get to the podium to make uh one of those two guys the pick um if they’re not available you know and he decides to keep the pick I think that they would want to go with somebody on D you got Z boam you know he could be your power play guy with dery for the future if you want to get a nasty kid back there and I think Bill Armstrong likes him big and nasty uh you got Carter yakam Chuck and then you know you can’t go wrong in my opinion with RTM lunov he’s a beast at both ends of the Ice uh as a defenseman now they also you know you got a brand new owner you never know with a brand new owner you know he may say to Bill Armstrong hey Bill you got a second you know this kid coming up in the draft oh I really like him you know maybe we should keep our eye on him you know now Bill Armstrong’s got to wonder do I have to draft this guy because the owner wants him or do I get to make my own pick I really don’t think that’s going to be the case especially in the first year of a new franchise I think the owner is going to want to you know be a little bit more hands off and let the hockey people do their jobs um but again if they decided that you know they wanted to move up for a player that they wanted check this out over the next three years they have 10 second round draft picks and seven third round draft picks that is 17 assets right there in the first three rounds of the next three years uh that you could do a lot with you could take a player you know Clayton Keller the allstar does not have a no trade clause so if you wanted to move him you could uh you know if they wanted to move up and they wanted to do something crazy maybe try to go after like you know demidov or they had their heart set on Le shov and they really really wanted them you know maybe now is when you call these teams and you say hey we’ve got all of these draft picks in the future we’ll give you you know Clayton Keller and three second rounders that would be very hard to turn down uh if you’re a team that’s selecting you know high up like that again you’ve got a guy who’s already skilled in Keller in the NHL and I’m just using him as an example any NHL player you you know you’d be bringing in would have uh skill already but again they have 17 picks uh in the next uh three years second and third rounders uh they could trade the pick you know in my opinion at the number six pick if they wanted to uh maybe they say hey we want Mitch Marner from Toronto we’ll give you the number six pick personally I think that would be more of a trade that Clayton Keller would go to Toronto uh and you’d bring Mitch Marner in and you would keep your number six pick uh you know your front end would have a definitely different look next year you know you would have guys like Marner Gunther all up front together and in my opinion uh Marner is a little bit of an upgrade over Keller and that’s just again my opinion um you know the new owner again you know maybe he’s a lifelong fan of some guy in the NHL and he says you know what I don’t care what you do otherwise but I want this guy on our team you know that’s always a possibility again less than 50/50 chance but you never know when you’ve got a new owner what he is going to do um you know they could also do stuff like they could take their pick and they could trade down a little bit you know if they wanted to maybe there’s a player on another team that’s picking you know within the next four or five picks that’s they say Hey you know uh we’ll swap six and 10 with the devils and you throw in you know whoever they want a Prospect you know halt something like that that’s also an option you know it all depends on who is available uh at the number six pick it’s all depending on does the new owner have something he wants to do does Bill Armstrong you know are there guys out on the free agent Market that you know he’s going to say hey the second the draft is over we want to make sure that we’re not overdrafting in a certain position because we’re going to be bringing in these guys who also play that position that’s also a possibility you know and if they did decide to trade down you know just a few picks there’s other guys you know if you’re swapping first rounders cona helenus Becket senica Liam greenre Berkeley katton Tesa gindler we haven’t even mentioned their names at all uh and those guys are definitely going to be going very very high so uh I think just in that six slot Utah’s got just a ton ton of things uh that they could do now something I think they are definitely going to be looking at doing is I think they’re going to be looking to get a second first round pick and again you know this is when you look at all of that assets you know that they have and you say to yourself does three second round picks uh get you into the top maybe 17 to 20 window of the first round uh maybe if you threw in a player Barrett Hayden Lawson Krauss and those three second round picks with that get you into the top 12 again maybe they’re in love with a player that they really want to get but in this position they have got so many options and I think now that Armstrong is going to be able to spend I think they are going to be a very very busy team uh in the days leading up to the draft and at the draft and then uh as soon as free agency starts I believe they are definitely going to be making a lot of noise um speaking of Utah here’s a question question and I’m hoping it’s answered very soon uh when are they going to come up with the name of the team when are they going to come up with a logo when are they going to come up with a color scheme I certainly hope that it would be before the draft it would be a lot more fun uh if we don’t have to hear the you know the NHL Utah franchise every time there’s a selection made it would be really cool if they already uh had a name so anyway that’s going to do it for today’s video this is the number six overall pick that the Utah hockey team has and again with a new owner Bill Armstrong is finally going to be able to spend some money this could be a very very busy off seon for them so uh let me know what you think down in the comments section let me know if there’s any trades you think that they might make if you could please hit your like button hit your subscribe button and as we always do here at Clear of the benches let them know you’re out there

General Manager Bill Armstrong was not allowed to spend as he wanted in Arizona but now that the team has relocated to Utah (Salt Lake City) will he finally be able to spend freely on the players he covets?
Ryan Smith has an all in approach in Utah so I believe that this franchise may make a major trade (or 2!) at the draft as well as several big name signings in Free Agency.
With names like Ivan Demidov, Artyem Levshunov, Tij Iginla and Berkly Catton expected to be picked high in the first round, will Armstrong call out any of their names from the NHL’s Draft Podium at the Sphere in Las Vegas, NV.
