James Bradberry CHANGED Positions & Injured! Quinyon Mitchell STARTS + Fangio’s Plan for Bryce Huff

Eagles mini camp day one had plenty of drama starting with James Bradbury moving positions and then suddenly getting hurt Quan Mitchell also got first reps with the first team offense but hearing Bryce Huff speak on his new role in vic fangio’s defense has me way more intrigued and yes Jaylen herdz did throw an interception today let’s dive into that and a whole bunch more I’m thomasm this is a thomasm show I’ve said multiple times this week that there’s only so much you can learn from a man atory mini camp and even less from OTAs but as the birds reported for day one of three required practices at the NovaCare complex today we got a lot of new details from today’s practice that I was not expecting for one yes James Bradbury was there look he’s in a helmet he’s in a uniform and he started running through drills you’d expect that no real surprise but did you expect him to be working out with the safeties today I sure didn’t but according to the head coach The Birds are going to look at Bradbury as a safety this entire offseason his versatility Martin you know he’s he’s been uh you know he’s he’s able you know he was able to do a couple different things last year um you know had played his majority of his career at corner and then was able to do some things at the dime and some things at the nickel you know some things at the at the corner and now you know he’s working in to work in some of the safety stuff which you’ll see today um so that that is I’m excited about that and his opportunity to be able to you know you’ve seen a lot of good Corners in this league um you know I guess the first guy comes to my mind Charles Woodson you know he went from from Elite corner to be an elite nickel to be an elite safety and mean that and and so I’m I’m excited about that for James that he’s able to to to uh to do more now once practice started I was really intrigued as to where Bradbury would line up in the safety depth chart but 10 minutes into actually beginning practice Bradbery slowly walked into the medical tent escorted by a trainer only to return to the sidelines without his helmet ashin Sullivan noted what happened saying quote Bradbery was doing quick feet drills backwards first rep fell down and now is in the medical tent practice is still in the warm-up portion now I’ve seen plenty of crazy speculation that Bradbury doesn’t want to be at mandatory OTAs and so he shows up to not get fine and then fakes an injury in order to not actually have to participate doesn’t want to be a safety like you can see how the conspiracy theories go wild I’m not an injury expert I don’t know what’s going on but very interesting that he gets a position changed and then injured in the span of like 10 minutes now sure the Eagles are stacked at corner and so moving Bradbury to safety where the depth isn’t as great I guess makes some sense but he has zero experience at plus why would he himself want this change to actually happen he did have one bad year at corner this past year but he has all pro and proo accolades at outside cornerback throughout his entire career plus does anyone view James Bradbery as a strong tackler like don’t you need your safeties to at least be able to come up and make a tackle in the open field something that Bradbery has not been good at historically there are way more questions than answers we got that brief clip of Nick serani basically saying yeah he’s going to work out at safety then he goes on the football field gets into the safety line but then gets hurt immediately and then just stands and watches practice for the rest of the day I guess tomorrow whenever they get back on the NovaCare field we’ll find out more if he’s healthy if he’s going to participate what safety dep CH position he’s going to be in but I have as many questions as you do in terms of Bradberry being a safety also side note on tomorrow’s show I’m announcing the winner of the Devonte Smith celebrity softball game ticket OTA practice today that was Landon Dickerson serani said he had an excuse so no real concern there but that did mean that maai beckon started at left guard today which I thought was pretty interesting until you remember yesterday Jeff stoutland said becton’s versatility has been on full display well I can answer that cuz I’ve been working with him every day and and and uh really impressed with his football uh IQ his intelligence uh his vers you know he’s I didn’t realize he was able to play other positions so that in it in itself is just to have that swing value and the willingness to want to do it he’s a fun guy to coach he loves football now becton’s obviously going to make this roster I think Philadelphia though is going to move him around in order to make sure that the former first rounder can fill any hole that pops up during the season injury at left guard boom injury at right tackle boom heaven forbid these things happen but McKai beckon seems to be very much in the Eagles plans as a backup tackle and guard going forward now in more online news today Lane Johnson you see him there back at practice next to Tyler Steen and cam Jurgens after missing some OTA practices but before heading out on the field Lane had some very strong praise for his Right Guard running mate in Tyler Steen and even compared him to a former stud Eagles guard he’s been good I mean he’s he’s night and day stronger um you know than what he was last year so he’s put in the work U we have a lot of bodies and as you know OTAs there you know limited contact so um you know everything’s looking good footwork but you know we really won’t tell till obviously training camping and we get the pad on now we got proof of life that Bryce Huff still exists because we’ve gotten like zero otaa footage of him the past couple of weeks although this was basically just a press conference that hey at least counted as something and although the former jet was at Eagles mini camp unlike the newest jet Hassan reic to everyone surprised today it sounds like Vic fangio is going to start dropping Assan reic into coverage more than any of us would have wanted or expected uh I dropped every now and then I did a lot of QB spy um had to peill with backers and stuff like that yeah definitely I respond well to to to any kind of coaching but VI is definitely old school in the sense that like like hard work we’ll get it done and I I fully believe in that so yeah definitely uh just cuz we we rarely dropped into coverage in New York but uh here is definitely be a little bit more mixed into the scheme but um yeah now listen I get it bryu is athletic and if you had to pick between your two Edge rushers you want to drop back into coverage I’d rather pick Huff over Josh sweat because I think he’s a lot faster but didn’t we try this with a son reic last year only to watch it fail like miserably every single time and although I trust Vic and you should too I’m sure defensive ends don’t really enjoy dropping into coverage they much rather just rush the passer hence the name pass rusher but I’m very interested to see how he’s going to progress going through training camp because so far without pads all the eagle beat riters who have been there they haven’t said much about Bryce Huff now also back at practice today was Devonte Smith of course a no show during voluntary OTAs and he lined up at his natural one spot alongside AJ Brown and Paris Campbell who was yet again your wide receiver three no surprise there and Smitty also spoke to the media and despite not really giving a ton of information as he always does he was asked about the difference between this year’s offense with Kell Moore and last year’s offense under Brian Johnson and the differences are hard to go ahead and ignore um I think it’s going to be great um you know get a new style of offense around um you know let guys you know have not have more freedom but be able to you know do do things that we weren’t allowed to do um you know move guys around things like that and overall you know it’s always to have a fresh start now I don’t need to give you a minute rant on why Kel Mo’s offense is way better for the birds than what they had last year like a basic two-year-old could figure that thing out but I do think the receiver who benefits the most has to be Devonte Smith in Kell Moore’s offense like Smitty is built to move around lining up outside and running a simple 10 yard stop is not maximizing his abilities like imagine Smith with motion pre- snap moving inside moving outside running all sorts of routes routes that you saw the Chargers offense run when they were healthy and they carved people up time and time again now turns to the depth chart seven on sevens first up on defense how about Darius slay and key Ringo starting at cornerback which is not worthy because the big hero of OTAs was Isaiah Rogers but he apparently was with the second teamers and Ringo started today Zack Bon also got first team reps that continued alongside Deon white who did intercept Jaylen Herz on a pass across the middle that Reed blanket chip popped into the air and Devon white came down with yet again and yes that’s another Jaylen Herz interception I know he has not had a practice at least with media watching where he has not thrown an interception but another pass across the middle of the football field something he did not do basically his entire career especially last year I think Kell Moore is forcing him to throw more where he’s not comfortable in the middle of the football field at least early on here during mini camp to maybe hopefully get him more comfortable during training camp with across the middle targets also I’m starting to think Zack Bon is not just an OTA starter kind of a player I think he has a legit shot to be a starting linebacker day one ncoe Dean ran with the seconds all dayto day he didn’t really get a first team look which kind of further helped cement that theory training camp when the pads come on is definitely going to be the time when the linebacker Kem will rise to the top but until then Bon seems very eager to do whatever Vic Fango needs for him to be you know a starter going forward uh I have no clue why he went that direction actually I could do a lot of different things and um if that’s where Vic sees me and he’s studied my film he’s watched me he’s seen me in in in the in the league and in college he’s seen what I can do and if he thinks that’s a good spot for me that’s where that’s where I’ll be now I’ve had a lot of you guys comment saying Thomas what about quinan Mitchell how was our first round draft pick looked and well honestly we hadn’t heard much during OTAs but today we did get to see quina Mitchell not only play outside with the twos alongside isah Rogers and Cooper de jeene but Brandon Le gon noted a four cornerback look at one point with slay and Ringo on the outside and Maddox and Mitchell on the inside now this was further confirmed by other reporters that Mitchell did indeed get a look at nickel the starting nickel position multiple times with the first teamers and I guess if you have a plethora of really good quarterbacks then you got to start trying to see if they can play other positions in order to get in the football field now don’t take this as a oh he can’t play outside at all this is a disaster instead I would take it as a they want to see what he can do fangio is very curious because I think Ringo and Rogers are the favorites to be the number two quarterback at least terms of A and B but instead of red shirting quinan Mitchell I guess trying to get him on the field in certain packages his rookie year makes a ton more sense now a couple of key standout moments from seven on sevens and 11on 11s Brandon Lee G pointed out that Isaiah Rogers continues to make plays on the ball nearly had a pick on a pick it throw left a little behind the intended target ending up being a pbu Jeff Cur then noted that key Ringo on first team of quarterback did a nice job breaking up a Herz deep ball intended for Paris Campbell C Johnson did a good job closing it up as well was a very nice pass from Herz even better coverage this was of course seconded by Andrew Deo who noted that key Ringo had a strong day had some competitive reps with AJ Brown and blanketed John Ross on a deep shot down the left sideline Tim mcmanis also gave us some insight into queenan Mitchell’s Day saying good recognition from Quan Mitchell who jumped a Joseph and got route and forced the Kenny p pick it in completion he worked outside with the twos also saw some time as a dime linebacker with the ones he got mastered with Dallas GD in the sequence and held his own now as far as Jaylen herz’s entire day ESP had a detailed write up noticing that Herz had a solid day at practice his interception to start the day wasn’t really his fault but the throw wasn’t great which caused it to be batted up and intercepted he had that happened twice so far in mini camp OTA practices open to the media pretty bad luck partly bad timing outside of the int he was mostly on target with throws to AJ and Devonte he threw to Smitty ton early with great success and had a nice few throws to AJ as well he did miss one throw this should have been a completion when he had GD wide open going across the middle to the right Seline G arguably should have caught it but the pass was high and herts made it harder than it should have been his one deep throw in team drills was a fine throw but the coverage by Ringo was excellent and broken up nothing special from H today but also not terrible 12 of 16 zero touchdowns one interception now much like ota’s mini camp is very very similar it’s basically an OTA practice but you’re going to be required to be there or else you’re going to go ahead and get fin so you can’t take too much from s on sevs and 111s why finished the show with that but it’s the depth chart it’s you know James Bradbury switching positions that’s where it’s really key but I also like what Nick serani said during his pre-practice press conference explaining why this was the first Eagles mandatory mini camp in a very very long time every year you go through it and you think to yourself what can we do better this year you know and um I think what we you know one of the one of the things that we did um I mean there’s many things we wanted to get some extra practices in we wanted to have you know the set the stage of as far as you know this this day is a little bit different than an OTA day kind of It kind of mirrors a day of practice but also you can get some some meetings done that you don’t have to do in training camp now uh that’s one one uh reason you get some the physicals done you can get the the meetings that you would do in training camp that kind of eat up a night meeting we like I can’t we got to watch this tape tonight and it’s G and you got some sort of meeting that you’re like that eats into it so you can get some of those done too but it’s just to get out there and work I mean really at the end of the day is to get out there and work have the whole team here and working together and uh you know going hard at it and that is tomorrow and Thursday both in the afternoon and so shows will come out at basically the same time that this one’s coming out
