Offense for the Milwaukee Brewers Has a Quiet Three Days

this series with the Philadelphia Phillies kind of felt like a playoff series not in terms of atmosphere in terms of the offense just going cold we’ll talk about that a few other things as well here runs in three games which the Brewers did and my worst fear happened with the Brewers going into Philadelphia and getting swept in a three- game series I said Sunday night and I said I think you just go to Philadelphia and at least win one just one certainly they had shots to win all three but they lost all three against the White Soxs last weekend they had shots to lose all three but they won all three against a bad baseball team Philly is not a bad baseball team they may see them again unless the Brewers don’t turn this around which I think they will how you doing again everybody chze Freeman I was like God is this a road trip I should make go out to Philadelphia and come away uh with just scoring two runs in this game in this series uh disappointing saw their lead in the division the strength of five games now because the Cubs won again over the white socks uh winning seven to six for a second straight day so the lead is five on them but you know as as we talked about last week here on the show when I put it out who you most worried about in the division it’s not the Cardinals it’s not the Cubs it’s not the Pirates it’s not the Reds it’s the Milwaukee Brewers you had this right it’s the Milwaukee Brewers we have to worry about um with a lot of things I think the Brewers have such a small margin of error to win ball games you know they got you know they got to have everything go right pitching wise and that has been and then offensively you know some of these guys some guys in this team got to pick it up and I talked about the right and center field spots last night but you know you look at this team here and man it’s just struggling and it does feel like a playoff series it kind of reminds me of a playoff series where we’ve seen the Brewers at times in a big-time atmosphere and Philadelphia was they’re 27 to n at home Big Time atmosphere going against the Phillies who’ve uh you know made a run here in the last couple of Seasons uh and they have visions of going to the World Series this year uh and I don’t think as I said this earlier in the week I don’t look at these three games and think wow you know the Brewers can’t beat Philadelphia doesn’t work that way in baseball not at all especially in midj there’s no and some of you on Twitter are thinking that way oh my God we can’t compete against these uh a team like the Philadelphia Phillies don’t go there just yet baseball anything can happen it’s such a strange game so I I’m I’m not panicking at all I’m not this is this their fourth three- game losing skid first time they got swept I’m encouraged that the pitching is still there yet and Ashby man and and he G when he gave that two-run Homer to castios you know you guys are some of you guys went after him on Twitter and tweeted at me but I’m not gonna if you know if I got five innings two hit ball out of the guy you know you have five walks but I’ll take you know gave have the home run but Ashby should have got a win in this game Colin Ray should have got a win on Tuesday night didn’t happen Bryce Wilson should have got a win on Monday night one of those guys of those three guys should have got a win none did and Ashby although Murphy didn’t commit to it Ashby’s probably gonna get another start he’s probably gonna get I mean do you have a choice at this point I I’m gonna read just some Murphy comments coming up here in a little bit but do you have a choice at this point not to pitch ass Ashby again um I guess if you would got shelled you set him back down but you know he he did enough he was pounding the strike zone with his three pitches you know he did walk five but you saw enough of the kid where you can say yeah you know I could I I you know he’s had the shoulder issues and all that but there’s a a few things that him to really like okay and we’ve seen it now he’s not been great down at Triple A but I thought on Wednesday he sure as heck did give this team a chance to win and certainly earns earn himself another start but two of 17 with runners in scoring position in this series two of 17 another Runner got thrown up couple more Runners got thrown out the plate in this series several Runners got thrown out the plate in the series I felt um at the plate you know that old contact play you know the contact play just never works just once I like to see the the catcher maybe drop the ball or a a throw home squirts off to the right because every time that contact play is coming on the it’s a out at home plate every time I bet the Brewers have not converted one of those contact plays this year because I feel like every time throw at home play so instead of a man at third with two outs okay we got a man at first with two outs the old contact play that guy from third is never scoring on a ground ball the third base I don’t care I don’t care if Willie Wilson’s at third base okay Ricky Henderson ain’t scoring from third base in that spot all right we come back we’ll talk uh not saying count everyday and nobody does but Murphy I think one of the things he really emphasizes uh as the manager of this team hey I got your back I’m defending you you know rarely have you seen him on a postgame press conference get angry get upset maybe disappointment sometimes if he’s probably hiding it but he is the guy who’s going to be strong for this team he’s not going to get up there and Grimace like Council you know Council used to you know look you know he always started every sentence with look look you know we’re going to have games like this where you know one of those things uh Murphy is a straight shooter Murphy’s comments though today I didn’t understand I didn’t understand this but again he has his guy his guy back um Murphy after the game today after losing and getting swept in Philadelphia never heard a manager said this uh quote I know this is a good thing for our team to go through nobody likes losing nobody likes losing close ones I’ve never ever heard anybody say well losing is a good thing most people say when you know you lose a game or you lose a heartbreaking game um is it good for your team to go through something like this yeah not really losing is never good in any form but bur after the game today basically said well you know then again don’t read that he doesn’t care because he does care but he said I know this is a good thing for our team to go through well they’ve gone through these before already though this year there’s been like I said three other times or they’ve lost three in a row first time they’ve been swept in a series but they’ve gone through skids like this before nobody likes losing he said nobody likes losing close ones okay they have three straight losses we’ve known this team as we’ve said to always bounce back from adversity and we’ll see what happens in Detroit now as far as the pitching is concerned Murphy said this if you’re in our organization right now and you’re healthy and you’re throwing it Forward he throws that caveat in there if you’re in the organization right now and you’re healthy and you’re throwing it forward that means the warm body Theory you’re being considered if you throw good from the Outfield one day you might be considered too so a guy makes a good throw from The Outfield Murphy’s joking wow we G to try that guy on the mount here I’ll bought it but that’s where the Brewers are they’re they’re trying to figure out who their who their next pitcher is going to be who’s going to go and they have peace that together and Murphy has talked about the upper management here been able to keep this team together and Supply them with arms Supply them with arms now it sounds like junis you know possibly could be on the men here could be coming up Ross and we’re talking junas and Ross we’re not talking about Maddox and glavin here we’re talking about two guys who at least have got some major league experience are going to go out there are they shutdown guys no but I would rather have these guys back than some untested minor Leaguers now they talked about murf was asked about two guys who are throwing well down at Triple A Carlos Rodriguez recently was uh you know got off to that slow start down of Triple A bounced back and he’s pitching Well Chad Patrick is pitching well down there so murf says yeah we’ve talked about those two guys but you know again I I I don’t know I I don’t know if I want to bring up but you almost have to at this point they’re bringing up Tobias Meyers to start likely on Friday so I would guess Freddy the Brewers haven’t announced their starting rotation for Detroit so I bet you it’s Tobias Harris Friday or Tobias Harris it might be Tobias Harris Tobias Meyers Tobias Meers on Friday a Freddy on Saturday and then on Sunday probably Wilson and then maybe maybe an opener in that game against Wilson although maybe they’ll let him start but probably an opener candy will probably be the opener there but junas and Ross getting closer and closer to making a return from this team that is good that is good as for Robert Gasser in your list they call they’re calling it a left flexer strain left flexor flexor strain um still seeking that second opinion haven’t got word yet as of early Thursday morning about how that second opinion is gone so we’ll we’ll find out um how that shapes up for young Robert Gasser but still no word on that second opinion that he got on his aien left elbow so it’s off to Detroit to face the Tigers and um think you got to go there and take two of three where I said that against these guys the Phillies the 449 Phillies well you know you have to go there and at least win one game Detroit’s a 500 team they’re 31 and 31 you got to go there and take two or three you can’t go winless on this road trip with Toronto coming to town next week you can’t go winless um even one win is a swing two would be nice you got to win so if you go two and four on this road trip again going in Detroit the way the team is playing and win two games right now was a big ask for these guys because things aren’t going well at all offensively what would have happened if you had a combination of bad offense and bad pitching if the pitching with all these injuries with four or five guys at the injured list if the pitching didn’t hold up like it is if Bryce Wilson hasn’t hadn’t been pitching how he had been pitching Colin Ray you know Ashby gave him a chance to to win today Freddy’s been pretty good you know if some of these guys Ross you know before he was hurt gave him a couple of nice outings if some of these pitchers did not come with out really good outings and that Bullpen had not pitched like it had has done so far Brewers would not be in first place this team so far has been carried by the pitching the pitching has been the MVP of this team despite the injuries the guys on the Ed list other guys have stepped up and patched things together the pitching has not been a problem on this team although we say you know they need pitching on this team is it going to last who knows but through two months and they’ve had problems right from the get-go with injuries and that starting rotation but so far that doesn’t seem to be the problem we let’s hope it keeps that way but if this pitching wasn’t was anything less than spectacular with the way these guys hit offensively again that feast or famine thing with these guys and I think you throw out those stats where they’re second in the league and this and this and this because it’s obviously skewed a little bit because some days they’re great and other days they’ll go through a stretch where they’ll not scored four games three or four games but then they’ll come back and put a 12 spot on somebody really interesting team this is this is just a an uh an odd team you look at their 10 games over the 500 Mark we’re 13 and you say there yourself well even like last year’s team you’d say well there’s been better Brewers teams before there have been better Brewers teams but something can’t be you know the fight in these guys and I know the fight in these guys um they got a good manager there’s a lot of fight these guys I’m I’m thinking they’re going to bounce back this weekend um there’s been times when we thought was going to go in the wrong direction I have a feeling get the day off get away from baseball for one day day they’re in Detroit and bounce back Friday and get the job done and if Myers is on again Tobias Myers has been another guy who’s comeing and had a couple of nice outings yeah you know they we got what we get out of Tobias Meers Colin Ray you know Colin ray goes out there continues to pitch like a topof the rotation type of guy and when he never has been really projected to be that type there just getting disappointed that the Brewers couldn’t come up with a win in any of those games but they move on to Detroit and have a five-game lead on the CBS who have rallied in both of their games against the White Soxs to win two in a row here against uh against the white socks and that inner city BL battle um I want to read some tweets here I want to throw some things out here what I what I threw on Twitter um I put out there just a brutal three games in Philadelphia uh fourth three- game skid of the Season then some of you guys unloaded um Dan says the pitching stepped up this series any of these games could have easily been a blowout offense went to sleep couldn’t take advantage of the few opportunities went pres yes too many Runners left two of 17 and runners in scoring position is not going to do it Logan says how do we think how do you think we will do against the Tigers bounce back or not yeah I think I think they’re Logan I think they’re going to bounce back take two or three from Detroit I really do Detroit’s not a pushover by by any means they’re not a pushover they got some talented guys on their team getting there at the 500 Mark so that’s uh that’s not going to be easy going in there cont play runs into another out LEL says I understand it but it’s driving me nuts JB I don’t understand it what are the analytics that it works for the Brewers it has to be 5% of the time that’s what I say I think it’s 0o perc of the time Jamie the contact play has never worked for the milwauke Brewers in the history of baseball that’s what I say Marcus says don’t mind it there it’s not the baseball smart play to throw home there a lot more can go wrong well he did throw home and they did get him out um um fifth inning was a scoreless tie and I said up here we go again scoreless tie in at a fifth inning Ryan a pathetic offense good pitching bad offense homers can keep all those skewed stats against Bad teams Trevor says let’s change the rules of baseball if one gets the second base it’s a run Buck says poor choice of a pitch to the wrong batter he’s talking about the home run that Ashby gave up the casos I’m not blaming Ashby there yeah he gave the Home Run ball he said he ran out of trouble in the fifth inning but still let’s bail him out offensively uh doctor says Ashby stinks he will always stink Brewers have to trade no don’t give up on Ashby I’m not I’m far from giving up on him uh they signed him to a nice little contract couple of years ago uh it’d be a fool to give up on Ashby no left-handed arm they’re not giving up on him any time soon pop rock says uh Philadelphia pitchers have been dealing in this series no answers from the Brewers bats yeah they ran out and Aeron NOA he’s got eight wins on the season he’s eight and two he was tough he was tough on the mount for the Phillies all right so the Brewers now go to Detroit let’s give you who Detroit’s let’s see if Detroit has named their starters the Brewers are a big TBA uh let’s see here reys Olsen who’s one and six got a nice erra on the mount for Detroit game one um let’s see Casey M goes for game two of that series Saturday afternoon it’s a Friday night start uh first of all Friday night Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon Sunday afternoon I just should expect that it’s a Sunday afternoon because they’re not going to be on Sunday Night Baseball especially against the Tigers they not showing the Brewers on Sunday Night Baseball they could be playing the Harlem Globe truck rers on Sunday Night Baseball on a Sunday in a softball game and they’re not going
