OPTIONS FOR THE OTTAWA SENATORS AT THE # 7 OVERALL PICK #nhl #nhldraft #nhlplayoffs #nhl24 #tkachuk

after a season in which anything that could go wrong did go wrong the Ottawa Senators have a new head coach and two first round draft picks so today we’re going to take a look at what the Senators could do in the first round and a few players we think they should Target in free agency hey everybody Welcome in clear on the bench is your One-Stop shop for daily fresh hockey content if you go ahead and hit your subscribe button right now every single day we’ll bring you in a new hockey video to enjoy well unfortunately last year the Ottawa Senators were the n L’s dumpster fire uh it was just a long and miserable year for that franchise and their fans let’s hope they can turn it around and let’s hope that turnaround starts now uh their general manager is 50 years old Steve stos he played 1,1 NHL games he had 220 points but a very busy 1,322 penalty minutes gives me a little idea of what kind of player he may be looking for when you know free agency and draft time come September 29th 2023 he was named the president of hockey operations for the Senators November 1st 2023 after P Pierre dorion was fired he was named the interm general manager and then on New Year’s Eve they gave him the full-time GM title their coach is Travis Green he’s also coached in Vancouver and Jersey and his coaching record is 133 wins 147 losses and 34 overtime losses when we look at the number seven overall picks in NHL history the number one guy in the list is Bernie federko he had 1,130 points in the NHL and then you had two other guys who were very successful Shane Don 972 points and Jason arned 938 points and both D and arnet had over a th000 career penalty minutes some other guys who went number seven Bill Barber Ken lindman the original Rat go back and look up stuff about Kenny lindman Jacob vork Russ courel Ryan suder Al delen Kyle ooso Mark shley Jeff Skinner nazam cadri Daryl sedor you want a guy who could run your power play that’s the guy right there Doug risb Mark Hunter Clayton Keller Quinn Hughes Matt Dumba Darnell nurse and Chicago Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson was taken in the number seven slot in the first round when we look at the recent number sevens in the NHL 2019 Dylan cousins 2020 was Alexander Holtz to the New Jersey Devils 2021 William eckan 2022 the Blackhawks took Kevin Kinski and last year the Flyers took Matt V mechkov well we look what the Senators have got going on on their roster there’s a couple of bigname guys they’ve got tied up for a while uh that I think you know they’re going to try to Hitch the wagon to and that’s Tim sta 8.3 million for uh through 20293 same thing with Brady kachuk 8.2 million through 2027 28 I think this is going to be Claude Jus last year especially in Ottawa I don’t know if he’s going to make it onto another NHL roster but this year the S are going to be paying him $6.5 million Drake bson $4.9 million for three more years Matt Joseph 2.9 Million two more years marus stelic one year and then he’s an RFA Zach mchu in two years at 775 and then uh MCH is a UFA shanee Pinto RFA right now that’s a big story up in Ottawa they got to get that figured out if they’re going to keep him sign him or deal him uh and then when I look at another player uh Dominic kubalik is a UFA and he is 28 years old they’ve also got three rfas uh at forward and right now Josh Norris is on their IR $7.9 million through 20293 well we look at their defense uh it’s got some potential I think Jake Sanderson $8 million through 20293 Thomas Shabbat $8 million four more years obviously those are going to be your big two on the you know first uh line Jacob Chan one more year at $4.6 million you wonder if they’re going to trade him either at the draft or during the season uh I don’t think he’s going to resign up in Ottawa I don’t think it worked out like anyone thought it would artam Zub I like his game $4.6 million for three more years Travis hamic one more year at 1 1 million and then Eric branstrom is a 24y old RFA when we look at their go tending this is where they’ve really got to start to upgrade and it’s got to start soon they’ve got Jonas Corpus Salo hooked up for 4 million for four more years it has not worked out in the last couple of places for Corpus Sal Anton forsberg is the backup but they’re paying him $2.75 million for this year again I think they need a big time upgrade all righty let’s take a look at what they could do at the draft with the number seven overall pick in my opinion I think they should keep this pick and take the best available defenseman there’s going to be a couple you’re going to have to choose from and I think what you’ve already got going on on the back end you know with uh Sanderson Shabbat and Chan and Zoo you know if you were add another guy to that list and maybe if Chan’s on his way out you still have a good top two Set uh Sam Dickinson Z boam Zane perk uh Sal lunov we don’t know who is still going to be there some of those names are going to be available at number seven uh and again to go with the current core that would really look good in the future and I think that would be a good start too you know they want to get back in the playoffs that would be a good start uh something else that I think that they could really really consider and you know this is I don’t want to say like one step forward two steps back but they could trade for an established goal tender uh maybe you take this pick and you know you offer it to somebody that you think you could hit the jackpot with you know I always think Thatcher Demco we don’t know what’s going on you know if he’s going to need any procedure in the off seon uh I would call the Islanders about soken that playoff situation was just a little too weird for me uh I thought soken was going to be the guy and I think he was only in there for one game so maybe the Islanders are ready to move on from him in my opinion he’s an excellent goenda moving forward that is for sure now another big trade you could make like an offer on in my opinion is Lucas doall in Anaheim I think you know guys like him and Arthur she loves are going to be the names of the future goal tending wise and let’s just you know for the purposes of this video you were to say uh to Anaheim we’ll give you the seventh overall pick for Lucas doall now Anaheim would be picking third and seventh and we know Pat verak likes big and aggressive uh players I think that would be a move they would seriously seriously consider because Pat verb could get himself two Giants at three and seven uh they would probably have their pick of the litter you know lunov salv if they wanted to go with a big defenseman they could go after you know Kaden Lindstrom whatever they wanted to do they could add some big size uh again you know that’s just a hypothetical but in my opinion I think that would be an awesome awesome trade offer uh something else they could look at in that spot is you know what they could draft some more offense some guys are going to get pushed down we don’t know tjla may you know move down to that spot um you could also look at Berkeley Kat and who knows Ivan demid do may get pushed down uh Cole Eiserman there’s a very very good chance that he will be there at the number seven selection so you could always you know go after a sniper in that situation now the other thing you could do is let’s say that uh some of the big names have dropped down and they’re still available and you know some teams picking behind you maybe chomping at the bit to get their hands on those guys that is when you could shop that pick and you know what you could say you know uh we’ll give you the pick and you know you maybe let’s just say a hypothetical you would say to Utah hey we’ll give you the number seven you give us Clayton Keller I I don’t believe Clayton Keller’s got a no trade clause in his deal I think he is very movable so again a hypothetical if you were to say to Utah hey uh you know for Keller we’ll give you the number seven now Utah would be picking sixth and seventh and you know what I think that Clayton Keller may have hit his ceiling I think it would be an excellent deal for Ottawa I think that he would bring them you know an Allstar and they definitely need some Firepower up front that’s for sure uh but again I think that would work out on both ends when you know otta would W uh Utah rather would wind up with the sixth and the seventh again it’s just a hypothetical um and then something else that I was looking at is that they also have the number 25 pick from the Boston Bruins uh maybe they’re looking to move on from shanee Pinto you package the 25 and Shane pinto and maybe that is enough to get you into like you know the top 14 17 window of that first round and then you know again you’d be looking at best available player in that situation but you would be getting somebody that I think would probably be cracking the Senator’s lineup in the next two years and then when we look even further ahead free agency and I know that these guys are going to be coveted by everybody but the two Jakes I’ll tell you what if somehow Ottawa were to wind up with either Jake gensel or Jake de Brusque I think it would help that franchise out immensely I think uh whoever gets you know one of these two guys or if one team were to get lucky enough to get both of them I think it’s going to be a significant upgrade for that team next year when we look at other guys and again these two guys are going to be very sought after talking about Ryan lingren of the New York Rangers and Philip heroni they are both only 26 years old I know that Lind grin’s a little banged up because of the way you know he plays and he gives up his body uh but I think he’s got some years left in him and again Philip heroni was just awesome this year I think he was like a plus 33 up in Vancouver and the other thing is that they’ve got a little bit of that trade Capital uh you know with the draft picks they’ve got 725 and 39 so you know if you wanted to and you put Pinto into the mix you could really uh make something happen I think maybe with 2539 and either a prospect or a player so that’s going to do it for today’s video we wanted to take a look at the Ottawa Senators they’ve got the number seven pick in this year’s draft let me know what you think they should do down in the comments section if they should keep the pick who they should draft uh if they should trade it who they should try to trade it to what they should get in return if you could please hit your like button hit your subscribe button and as we always do here at clear on the benches let them know you’re out there
