JUICY Texans Rumors: JJ Watt Hinting Return, Kamari Lassiter TOP Rookie CB, Texans Sophomore Slumps?

[Music] welcome in Texans today everybody I’m your host Jeremy chugs and on today’s show a little segment we like to call fact or cap here on Texans today I’ll be going through the latest Texans news and storylines that everyone has probably already heard of and I’ll give you my sense on whether it’s fact or cap but before we get into all of those story lines if you haven’t already go down and hit that notification Bell so when we drop a video if there’s any Texans injury news if there’s any Texans free agency moves or roster moves you are the first one to be notified because whenever those happen we make a video here on the channel so all you got to do first you make got to make sure you hit that subscribe button then you click the notification Bell and then select the all option now let’s get into the first story line and probably one of the bigger ones that we’ve been hearing over and over and over I mean I thought this was like one of those soda brands the amount of times that they’ve recycled this storyline throughout the entire offseason but is JJ Watt returning to the Houston Texans this year unfortunately that is cap that is Cap uh this this gives me big you know like empty promise Vibes of like a friend whenever you’re like oh yeah if you’re ever in town you got a place to stay or you know if you ever need anything give me a call and then you actually call them and they’re like oh I’m I’m actually busy this is like a this is like a oh I want to be nice I want to say something like oh if they they ever need me I’ll be back but in reality I don’t think JJ Watt is coming back I mean he’s in a good place in his life him and his wife raising their child you know he’s involved in a lot of you know other things outside of football the media landscape he’s part owner of a soccer team over in England so I don’t know if he was actually serious about coming back because also along with you know getting ready for the football season and having him you know get acclimated with the new defensive scheme get into football shape all those things which I don’t think JJ Watt is going to have a hard time getting into shape if anybody watched The Hard Knocks with the Texans years and years ago Dude showed up to the gym at like 4:00 a.m. I don’t think that’s going to be the problem but at the end of the day I don’t know if the time commitment is worth it for JJ Watt this year as we look at the Texans defensive line depth chart I mean don’t get me wrong JJ Watt is a legend and if we could get a semblance of JJ Watt and how good he used to be every single team would want him on their squad but the Texans defensive line this year is actually looking really good especially the two defensive ends and Will Anderson and denal Hunter even though if he did play I think he would play at one of those defensive tackle positions maybe like a three technique but I just don’t see it happening this season the Texans and JJ Watt reunion what say you though do you think he was serious do you think JJ Watt returns this year be honest with me let me know down in the comment section yes or no do you think JJ Watt returns this season for the Houston Texas I’m interested in in to see what you have to say I would love to see 99 back on the field with the Houston Texans and maybe there is a world where somebody gets injured and the Texans are in a good spot you know to make the playoffs to make a run and JJ Watt does have his triumphant return this year I just I don’t think that’s going to be the case next up Kamari ler he’s been a part of a ton of Buzz this week will he be the best rookie cornerback this year I’m calling fact on that now maybe he’s not the most talented guy that was drafted this year at the cornerback position but I really do believe Kamari ler could surprise a ton of people and be very very good for the Houston Texans this year first let’s look at ler allowed zero touchdowns in 2023 for the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC going up against very good competition he allowed a 48.7 passer rating in 2023 and he’s a two-time national champ so obviously he’s part of of a winning culture he knows what it takes to win on the football field and be part of a winning program on the football field and then all throughout OTAs in mini camp I mean I’ve been looking for you know stuff to say about ler on you know why he might not fit why he might be you know struggle year one but he has really gone out and proven himself throughout mini camp he was the Swarm player of the week which just really means the best defensive player on the Texans for this week of mini camp he won those honors he was going up against Stefan Diggs looked really good in coverage went up against Dalton Schultz and other guys in coverage looked very good and all the news from mini camp and everybody that’s seen him play and practice so far has said this kid is the real deal he’s an absolute competitor and an absolute Menace In the secondary and you’re saying well Jeremy there’s a lot of really good players that were taken at the quarterback position this year in the NFL draft and you’re not wrong I mean quinon Mitchell I love he was my number one guy I loved him in the draft this year tyon Arnold with the line Nate Wiggins with the Ravens Cooper deene with the Eagles and then Kool-Aid mckinstry obviously taking one spot ahead of Kamari lter all these guys were taken ahead of him in the NFL draft and they might have a good year as well but Kamari ler I think out of everybody is going to have a really good opportunity to make an instant impact on this team Kamari ler I believe is going to be the CB2 across from Derek Stingley who’s going to take a lot of the wide receiver one options away for other teams so then it’s going to come down to Kamari lter and you know stopping those other wide receivers on opposing teams and I think the biggest thing for Kamari lter that kind of makes him stand out from the other guys that were drafted as one he’s going to start I know a couple of those other rookies are probably going to start as well like a quinan Mitchell and ataran Arnold but I think the biggest thing that’s going to help Kamari lter is this defensive line with denil Hunter Will Anderson Deno atry getting after the quarterback is going to help him tremendously he has really good instincts has a a really good break on the ball and if Tex the Texans defensive line if the Texans pass rush doesn’t give opposing quarterbacks a lot of time to throw the ball and Kamari ler can stay in front of his man I think he is going to make a ton of plays for this Texans team it’s going he’s going to be a beneficiary basically of this amazing Texans pass rush that Deo and Nick cerio has put together this season now talking about Kamari ler I know my confidence has wavered a ton this off season I know probably a lot of you as well but now seeing how he’s played mini camp OTAs and a lot of the buzz that’s around ler what’s your confidence level in the cornerback room now for me it’s still around a 7880 right now I I I I’m very optimistic I think this uh Texans quarterback room can be really good the depth I’m not sure about it I mean obviously guys like Jeff Auda CJ Henderson signed this off season have a lot of upside as former top 10 picks but I just don’t want to be too you know gun-ho saying oh yeah the Texans quarterback room is top 10 I don’t think it’s there yet but I do have a lot more confidence than I did at the start of the off season my last story line to look at the Texans they’ll have a bunch of sophomore slumps this season everybody’s overhyping them I’m calling cap on that I’m calling a big cap on that because I mean obviously they’re talking about the big three first of all they’re talking about CJ Str and I don’t think there’s going to be a slump for CJ Str his second year do I think maybe he’ll have some bumps and bruises along the way and a lot of Defense are going to key in more on Stroud this year than they did his rookie year because obviously defensive coordinators they are going to be studying up all offseason they have a lot more tape on Stroud so they’re going to try to take some things away but also this offense is completely different this year than last year there’s a new running back new wide receiver option as well so this offense could look a little different than it did last year so I don’t see a slump for CJ strad in 2024 same with tank Dell I mean he was electric was absolutely amazing his rookie season that was cut short during uh due to injury 47 receptions 709 yards seven touchdowns tank Dell has been in the lab this off season and I don’t expect Dell even with the addition of Stefan Diggs and having Nico Collins there on the field as well I think Dell could honestly be the wide receiver one for this Texans team this coming season he is actually that good I promise you that when you look at him you know practice when you look at all the stuff he’s done this offseason Dell looks like he is in game shape right now regardless of everything that he’s been through this offseason and then will Anderson I mean he has come into this mini camp into this OTA session for the Texans and he looks fantastic as well new new teammate denil Hunter has sung his Praises saying Anderson has really impressed him as a young pass rusher as a young Edge rusher in the league and I think the addition of denal Hunter not only helps this Texans uh Team production wise because obviously he’s a great player in his own right but also helping Will Anderson Jr come along you know helping him you know get over those bumps and bruises get over those you know rookie hiccups that he has and really help him develop and do a much better pass rusher in 2024 that’s all I have for you on today’s show as always like I said at the very beginning of the show make sure you have that notification Bell turned on if anything does happen with Houston Texans news and rumors around former Texans legend J.J. Watt has been circulating all offseason long. Watt spoke on the Pat McAfee show on ESPN about potentially returning to the Texans as well as saying at his charity softball event that Texans head coach and former teammate DeMeco Ryans would just need to ‘call him’ if they need him. We break down those rumors as well as talk if Kamari Lassiter could be the best rookie corner this season and if Texans fans should worry about sophomore slumps from C.J. Stroud, Tank Dell or Will Anderson Jr.

  2. Kamari Lassiters video always showed that the 4.5 40 time he was reportedly also clocked at is the real time. Plus? He had the top time at 3 come making this point even stronger.

  3. I really think Kamari is the steal of the draft. I had his coverage grade almost as high as guys like Sauce in technique. I'm so excited the speed isn't a thing so far because if it isn't? He is the best corner in this draft not named Quinyon Mitchell or Kool aid.

  4. I honestly think J.J.'s serious and doesn't say anything unless he means it, however; I don't think they will need him. The D is already gonna be better than two thirds of the league. Even with injuries, they are still close to a top ten. That's my take anyway.

  5. Think JJ won’t come back he’s just super excited for the city of Houston. He’s doing just fine outside of the sport. We already have 2 solid pass rushers and some decent depth. Doubt he’ll come back to be a rotational player. Can see him being in the building helping out here and there but not making a comeback all the way.
