Do the Canes have their Next GM? | Carolina Hurricanes Podcast #carolinahurricanes #causechaos #nhl

on the latest 32 thoughts podcast Elliot Freeman and Jeff Merck had a lot to say about the Carolina Hurricanes we’re going to react to all of that on a Wednesday edition of lock on hurricanes your locked on hurricanes your daily podcast on the Carolina hurricane part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day welcome to a Wednesday edition of locked on hurricane your team everyday part of the locked on podcast Network thank you to the everyday for making this your first listen today five days a week Monday through Friday talking everything about your Carolina Hurricanes I’m your host Zack Martin I’m the Carolina Hurricanes beat writer over at the hockey Riders I also do some AHL coverage over at the CER times I am the co-host of the search cast which is a weekly Carolina Hurricanes podcast along with all of my duties here at locked on Hurricanes got a very exciting Wednesday episode for everyone going to be doing a lot of reactions to the latest 32 thoughts episode podcast with Elliot Freeman and Jeff mer of sports then you they had a lot of interesting things to say on the latest show that they did on uh Tuesday you know following Monday night’s game of the game two of the Stanley Cup Final they talk about Eric tski Martin nature and a little bit of a shout out to the junior K’s program so we’re going to react to all that today on today Today’s show but before we get into all of of that today’s episode is brought to you by Game Time download the game time app create an account and use code locked on HL for $20 off your first purchase terms apply so like I said so we’re going to jump into a lot of things that that fredman and Merck talked about on 32 thoughts podcast and if you’re not subscribed to that show I would highly recommend it they have a lot of good stuff if you’re looking for some that’s a little bit more a lot of National stuff of course make sure to listen to that after you listen to this episode of course but um definitely one it’s definitely a good goto especially one that I you know listen to a lot because they do a really good job so they talked about a lot of interesting things on the show and one of them was about Eric tolsky now to go back a little bit on the timeline in terms of everything that kind of happened it was back on Monday night where Frank Sali tweeted out that he had some sources saying that the candidates for the Carolina Hurricanes general manager search have been notified that the team plan on doing to fill their role internally and it’s believed that Eric toski will be the next hurricanes GM he had the interim GM tag placed on after Donella joined the Columbus Blue Jackets now it’s not officially official yet but from what Frank zvali said Monday night and what Elliot Freeman and Jeff Merck were talking about on Tuesday’s episode of 32 thoughts it seems that it’s right now unofficially official it’s just hasn’t really been done by the team yet saying it’s officially done that the interim tag will be taken off Eric tolsky but from all signs it points that he will be the next general manager of the Caroline hurricanes but like I said it’s currently unofficial and from what Elliot Freeman was saying is that you know the Hurricanes view Eric tski as the right guy for the organization to take over as the general manager and Freeman also said that he heard from other general managers that if the Hurricanes would not have taken toski there might have been Rumblings of him possibly not being happy and you know they’re not sure what he how he would react now if you go to my episode last week where he did when I went over the interviews that Cory lavet did with Eric tulsky along with assistant J manager Darren York they both said depending on they said no matter who got picked as the GM both would have stayed in Carolina so I’m curious to see what general manager kind of reached out to Freeman and kind of gave like a thoughts of what might have been the feelings from Eric tolsky if he did get the position but reading the actual interviews myself and corks you bringing talking about it here on the podcast and the fact that you know from what tolsky and York both said they are happy in Carolina and if they weren’t picked they’d still stay here because it’s not about who’s running the ship it’s about the whole crew so either way I don’t think been it would have been a huge deal but from what Freeman was told he said it would have been a huge risk not to make Eric tulsy to GM as he was well respected and known around the league so someone else would have possibly offered it’s curious to see who possibly would offer I know in the past tolsky was you know interviewed by the Pittsburgh Penguins along with a few other teams too that and I know he was high on the list for the Toronto M beliefs you know the Minnesota Wild War uh I heard were linked to him there was a bunch of different teams looking at trying to get toski from Carolina thankfully that didn’t really happen of course the Hurricanes did you know Dell did leave Carolina done with the Columbus Blue Jackets but from what it seems like Eric tolsky will be that guy for the hurricanes and rightfully so I mean he and he Freeman said it and Jeff Merck also said it too and Merck said it a lot in the fact that you see that over the last few years and certainly over the last couple while Dom Modell was like the front-facing person of the Hurricanes a lot of the deals that were kind of going on behind the scenes with you know free agents trades stuff like that it seemed like a lot of it ran through almost like it was done as a group but it seemed like tolsky was kind of like the main man behind the scenes in terms of getting stuff done so it only made sense that he would just slide up into the position of that actual gender manager with Donell leaving so makes sense that he would be it so am was pretty much spotted on the fact everything we’ve known as hurricanes fans and you know writers and podcasters in the area have all basically understood that yeah Donell was the face it was a lot of tolsky and Darren York and everyone else behind the scenes that was doing a lot of the you know a lot of the work as well and kind of were the ones that were mainly driving the bus and stuff like that so it’s good to see that like I said it’s not a but it seems like it’s all signs reporting to toski being the next general manager for the Carolina Hurricanes and obviously you know that Darren York will be his assistant Journal manager and rightfully so it makes sense those two were both assistant joural managers together with Donell at the helm now one of them moves up and now you have York being the right-hand man of Eric tulsky so the hurricanes are still in good hands now it’s you know do you move someone else up to become the other assistant general manager or you just look to add another body to the to the front office of the Carolina Hurricanes is now they have to you know fill a spot that Dell left that Derek tski moves into now you got to fill another body in the front office but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s someone that they’re really looking after in terms of just adding to that group but big props to um Eric tolsky for being one of those you know for as of right now the unofficial official general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes and one of the other things that uh they did talk about in terms of um everything that’s going on with tolsky and the hurricanes and stuff like that you know with with what Carolina’s dealing with right now is they would they’re really looking at taking care of their unrestricted free agents first before you go to their to the restricted free agents with their restricted free agents you’re looking at you know Dylan cogin Martin iches Seth Jarvis and Jack jury it’s a very small list of rfas they’re going to have to deal with so one of their main priorities right now is looking at that laundry list of ufas you you’re talking to about Terra vinan you’re also looking at you know defenseman of Bray Shay Brett pesy Jaylen Chatfield you know Jordan martinook the for core Steph n so you’re looking at a lot of guys that they’re going to have to try to figure out if they’re going to bring back and you know and as of right now it’s I know as you’re if you’re a hurricanes fan if you’re a local writer for the team you know stuff like that it’s it’s tough to say what the hurricanes are going to do because as of right now you’re used to hearing the hurricanes are linked to certain guys certain trades they might be interested in and right now it’s kind of all quite on the Western Front for the Hurricanes if you look at how there’s not a lot of news outside of one particular player that keeps getting mentioned a lot I know I’ve talked about him at nauseum over the last couple shows and you know all last week as well and you know we are going to talk about a little bit because he was brought up like I said by you know Elliot Freeman and Jeff American 32 th and it’s Martin NIS but as of right now there’s not a lot of stuff going on other than them signing Ryan Suzuki a couple weeks back and that’s kind of like the only signing the hurricanes have done as of late so and as of like I said as of right now you don’t know what it’s next for the hurricane are you know is there certain guys that might be close on is there guys they’re probably link to for free agency that starts on July 1st which as of right now if you are counting the days you’re about you know like just a tad under three weeks away because you’re on the 12th so you’re looking at possibly 18 days 19 days away from you know free agency starting in the resign phase so it’s very interesting what is going to happen with the hurricane but I know their big intent was the unor free agents but as I said there is one particular player that’s kind of shot to the top of the priority list in terms of what the hurricanes are gonna need to figure out for this off season and it is their restrictor free agent in Martin nus and you know what fredman and Merck talked about in terms of that situation which we’ll get into here in a second on a Wednesday edition of lock on Hurricanes game time makes getting NBA final tickets even faster and easier prices on the game time up actually go down the closer it gets to tip off with Carol lastman a deals all in prices view from your seat in their lowest price guarantee game time takes the guest work out of buying NBA tickets the one thing I like really using about the game time app is the fact you get a lot of last minute you know deals on tickets you also get Flash Deals inzone Deals as well and it’s easy to get the views from your seat at the venue itself before you actually buy the tickets with last minute deals you can save up to 60% off buying last minute for sports along with concerts comedies theater and so much more Zone deals you can save more when you choose a section but you let the game time app choose the seat for you and in terms of their seats this feature I really like that they have is the fact that you have the seat views which gives you a panoramic view from your seat in the app before you buy s way you know what you’re going to be looking at before you get to the actual event itself that way or know obstructed views and stuff like that take the guest workout of buying NBA file tickets with Game Time download the game time app create an account use code locked on AHL for $20 off your first welcome back to a segment two of locked on hurricanes your team every day so like I said the end of seg of the first segment talking about how the Hurricanes were want to really focus on their unrestricted free agents but there’s been a player that’s been kind of been made the top priority in terms of what the Hurricanes need to do this off season and that is martines I know this week of Lone I’ve already talked about him a couple times Monday’s episode is very very interesting in terms of the reactions to the Martin EES Jacob markstrom deal and then Tuesday’s episode which I thought was a lot of fun it seems like a lot of people enjoyed that too from what I’ve seen on social media and just the comments here on YouTube as well in the fact that you were looking at possible trade targets with the Boston Bruins Vegas golden kns and the Philadelphia Flyers so if you guys really enjoyed that type of stuff you know let me know on social media and also in the comment section if you want me to try to look at other possible teams so if you have teams in mind that you want me to take a look at in terms of possible deals just shoot them to shoot them my way and I will do those for future episodes but with mariches uh Freedman and Merck did bring up the fact that that situation in general for Martin E is with the hurricanes has is Leap to the top of their priority list so the thing is there’s a feeling as a trade is extremely likely in niches is more so the one who wants to move on now Freeman did say that niches hasn’t said it publicly but privately he would venture to Guess that martines has let the team know and let certain people know that he does want to move on from the hurricanes and you know there was they thought there was some traction they did pick up over the weekend where in terms of maybe the Hurricanes would have been able to keep Martin niches but it seems like it’s the opposite effect where it looks like that niches is does want to go and he’s the one that is kind of pushing for them to make a move to deal him now the Hurricanes still have control over him he is a restricted free agent you know there still be the possibility they could still keep him and bring him back for a year it all really depends but it seems like from what Freeman America saying mostly Freeman is that a trade is extremely likely now the thing is you haven’t really heard any Rumblings of who the hurricanes are looking at or what they could be we all know what the what is their ask is from the certain teams is they want a star player coming back in to replace the star players go down to Martin niches now they’ve probably told teams from what Merck said or from what Freeman said is the fact that they’ve told team you are almost close and there’s other teams that you’re not close and it makes you wonder if the teams that aren’t close are they going to try to find a way to sweeten more of their deals to make it where works and you know hit that asking price that the Hurricanes want like I said we all know what the asking price is they want a a Bonafide Star right away coming back in to replace Martin EES it’s just who do they view as a star player and also what teams are the potentially looking at to think okay that that’s a star player that we actually want on the team so that’s the one big thing where I think is kind of throwing everyone for a loop is is the fact that it’s who is it who is the teams because we all know that it was at one point during the regular season back around the trade deadline it was the Vancouver KS allias Patterson for they gave him that extension there’s the rumor that it could have been lonus allmark from the Boston Bruins in terms that but nothing came to fruition but other than that what other teams could be interested now could you be looking at a possible team from the you know from the Eastern Conference like say could still be the ruins again could be the Ottawa Senators CU there’s a lot of younger guys at the Hurricanes might look at and be like okay we might get you know someone from there for him you know is there a possibility of Don woodell in the Columbus Blue Jackets does he you know leave Carol L and then turn right around and try to go get Martin NES I mean the Blue Jackets have a lot of upcoming stars that could replace them if they really want to do that too so I’m not saying it’s a POS I’m not saying that’s most likely it’s going to happen but there could be that possibility of who knows maybe you know Don wadell knows he get out of him and maybe there’s a spot for nichas where he gets Topline minutes who really knows in Columbus but you know if you’re looking at the Western Conference do you look at a possible you does Vancouver still come knocking around because apparently Vancouver is still interested in him it’s like but who do you really give up to get him now do you see the Seattle Kraken making a play Anaheim Ducks I mean the the Anaheim Ducks wouldn’t be a bad option either if you’re looking at Frank vrono because apparently you know the ducks have been looking at you know to offset him at some point they’ve also talked about Trevor zigis if the hurricanes are really interested in a guy like zeris so who know maybe the duck could be played work okay yeah you want to go get Topline mths we’ll send you to Anaheim and maybe the Ducks will send them for Toronto or zers or someone else they can think of they can move on from there like I said could be the Philadelphia Flyers so who really knows it’s just that’s the unfortunate part where you’re still playing a huge guessing game of what team is interested in you know in Martin EES and what are they interested in giving up and what the hurricanes are viewing as okay you know we can go do that we can go make this move and stuff like that but it just it all I don’t know it’s that’s just the one tough thing that we looking at the hurricanes and what are they viewing certain players and how you know certain trades could work and that’s something that I know a lot of hurricanes fans are kind of uneasy about because all you’ve been hearing for the last few weeks is the Martin Saga like can they keep him are they gonna trade him it sounds like going to keep him sounds like they want to trade him it sounds like they want to keep him but it’s martines that doesn’t want to stay so they’re going to figure out are they going to try to you know maybe men some bridges make it work or they do actually make the trade and then it comes into who where and stuff like that and that’s that’s the tough part I want to mind honestly thinking about it now wouldn’t mind the ducks go get V Toronto maybe go get tror ZR who really knows you know you’re looking at Bona fight Stars you know Frank for Chon really came in in his own the last season with Anaheim Ducks he wouldn’t be a bad option you know zers can put up the points and maybe he’s just in a bad situation where slow start last year where they were trying to figure out his contract because he was restricted for agent and got some injuries and stuff like that but you know do you see his type of style fit in the Hurricanes who really knows I think if you’re looking for a guy who could fit the system for Carolina a lot better out of those two I think for Toronto could be it who knows you can get a another 77 on the you know the hurricanes and it’s a vrono so who really knows I could I could see him being a solid option for the Hurricanes as well but it’s it’s just a tough it’s just a tough spot to be in where you’re looking at a guy who you know is going to be if he if he pulls it all together stays consistent you know if he was in a system that immedately works for him you know Martin eers would pop off for the you know for any team that kind of fits a style the Hurricanes kind of fit it but it’s also a lot of it doesn’t fit so that’s just the tough part that you’re in if you’re the Hurricanes is the fact that you know this guy’s going to be a star it’s just the consistency hasn’t really been there outside of the Season you know the 22 23 season where he led the team in points of 71 other than that you’re looking at okay Seasons from him you know he has the potential it’s just do you try to run it back again and see if you can make it work with him who really knows you know with the you know if they don’t bring Jake gel back do you see Martin eers jumping up to the first line who really knows but like I said if you got a guy who’s startled in N just do you want to keep him around and have a season of you know possible you know drama in the locker room if there’s any or you know that’s just that’s a tough situation to be in if you’re the Hurricanes you know you got to do its best for your team and you know what team kind of fits the asking price that’s the big thing as well so a lot of going on I don’t see this ending anytime soon unless the hurricanes are like all right we got our deal here it is so hopefully we even an answer sooner rather than later because I know I know for me and I know for other hurricanes fans at this point it’s like it’s June 12th it’s kind of time for I’m we’re hoping this thing does not get dragged on until July August September they’re going into camp but it’s still a saga so hopefully not too much longer in terms of this and hopefully we get answer soon or at least start getting possible rumors of teams that are interested in possible trades that could happen so that will be very very interesting but there was one more topic we’re going to go over real quick that the you know for 32 thoughts and the fact that Jeff Merck did have a shout out for the junior canes program and we’ll talk about that here in a second on a Wednesday edition team every day and the one last topic we’re going to go over is actually about the Caroline hurricanes Junior can’s program and the fact that it got a big boost and a big shout out from jff Merrick I like I said earlier in the show on 32 thoughts the podcast where he said quote the junior K’s program is excellent and he is 100% right is very much so it is a great great program if you’re looking for you know in terms of what you know for if you’re looking for junior hockey and stuff like that especially in the area and the fact that it for the junior Kings is the area’s only non for-profit membership Le travel Hockey Association and it’s the Carolina’s is only professionally coached in managed development to tier one AAA program and the best of both worlds on and off the ice experience and opportunities and the good thing too is they’ve had over 700 athletes over 40 coaches and they have one purpose and one program and the good thing about too is the fact you see guys like Skylar bore has gone through the system and the fact you play quc and now he’s also playing for the Florida Panthers system and stuff like that too and it’s just from what they’ve done in terms of just the the players that they’ve seen and just everyone who’s you know gone through the system and gone really well for their careers like I said Skyler bremore Josh Wesley you know he’s you know with the Utah Grizzlies they have so many players that have gone through the system and stuff like that and it’s just good to see and the fact you even look at the you know nwhl colen Murphy went there for the M of Pon Rivers you know it’s it’s a good thing that you know you got you know Anna Bowski of the wchl the Beverly Bombshells and they’ve just gone through and done a lot of things as well that’s you know something that’s really really awesome to see and even just on the lower side of things even for for juniors you just got guys who’ve you know gone on and played Junior Hockey kobby Peterson the bchl you know of the col uh quam Express and you just see how much goes into the programs and the fact you look at their coaches too they have you know you’re talking about guys like Shane Willis who’s done a lot to help with these programs as well and you look at the just the hurricane the junior hurricane system as a whole what’s considered is their T1 triaa programs you’re talking from 11 U through 16u and the fact that triple that tier one triaa hockey is the highest level of H of hockey in the US and it’s basically a very highly competitive triy out based program throughout you know the North Carolina area and the surrounding areas too and that runs through the 11U through the 16 U teams and then you also look at how the Hurricanes 14U 15 and 16 U Tria teams they go and compete in the Southeastern tier one district and stuff like that so it’s really awesome to see in terms of the tier one teams to see what you’re kind of looking at there they also have tier 2 teams and it’s also another competitive based program and you’re looking at you know younger levels in terms of you have the Super Series Nationals showcase the Southeast Division the Carolina hockey league and that goes through 13u through the 18u tier 2 teams and stuff like that as well and for what the junior ke’s designation is if everyone doesn’t know that tier one tripa for the junior canes is tier one of the USA Hockey tier and is compe of level of the Triple A the tier two black team plays in the tier 2 style of the USA Hockey tier and it’s doublea or ablea triaa tier 2 red is part of the tier 2 program and then it’s an A or double a competitive level and then the tier 2 white is uh in terms of the usaki that is the tier two style and that is a competitive level of a single a in terms of that for the boys side of things so you have your tier two wh which is your single a tier 2 red is is a single a or double A and then it’s your tier 2 black where you look at ablea or AAAA and then your AAA program is share up AAA by itself now the good thing too is they also have the girls tier one and tier 2 Programs as well which is something that’s really awesome and they have tier one triaa which is the highest level for the girls and their tier one is that the 14U the 16u and the 19u all Inter National bound and set to compete in the Southeastern tier one District championships for the right to the USA hockey national championships in their tier 2 is a tryout based program and that’s for 14U and their and also their 1619 new tier 2 teams as well and you also have your super eight programs which is the supplemental 8U season with the polar Hurricanes hockey league which is the phhl and that gives players a and younger internet an introduction to travel hockey before the transition from the house leagues to their tier 2 during the 9uu season so if you want to check all that stuff out go to Carolina Junior hurricanes. org I will leave a link in the description of the podcast and also on the YouTube side things as well if you want to go and check out the junior KS and also leave it on social media too if you want to go check that out but it’s honestly a really great program you know we got kids who’ve gone on to win golden medals in you know for you know girls world you like I said Scot bore has played and he’s now with the Florida Panthers organization Josh Wesley you know it it just you know is he’s done really well he’s in the ECHL with the Utah Grizzlies you know it’s it’s a good program to have like I said you also have guys you know Rod berore has coached some teams you know he’s got you know he’s taught Brooks you know his son Brooks also you know Jagger Burns is part of the system too and like I said Shane Willis is a big proponent of it where his big thing outside of what he does for the hurricanes in terms of ballet and you know doing the podcast of kan’s cats with you know Mike manako is he’s also a coach of the junior program and that’s something that he really loves to do is you know being able to do stuff in the Summer with the junior program and help them you know just travel hockey as well and that’s why you see it how popular it’s become and you can see that you know Jeff Merck said how great the junor king’s program is and he’s right it is so if you’re in the Carolina area and if you’re looking to kids who want to get into hockey I would highly recommend looking at the junior cans program like I said I’ll will leave a link in the descriptions on the podcast on YouTube and also on the on social media as well if you want to go check out their website and all the things that goes into those details like I said I could not highly recommend the junior kinges program it is very very awesome if you’re looking to put having your kid learn hockey and love hockey as more because Carolines are becoming it’s it’s a fast growing state in terms of you know kids getting more into hockey and that’s because of the hurricanes and just how good their youth program yes but that will wrap up a Wednesday’s episode of lock on hurricanes I hope everyone enjoyed the episode yeah if you want to follow me on social media
