Alexander Mogilny MUST Be Inducted Into The Hockey Hall Of Fame

welcome back Devils fans and NHL fans at large it is your host Ace here looking for your help desperately to write a wrong that wrong is the fact that Alexander mgy is still not in the Hockey Hall of Fame it is a head scratcher it has been one for years and with the selection committee soon in about a week a week and a half or so to release the inductees for the 2024 class I must Deep dive into the situation and show you all why I believe Alexander mgy firmly belongs in the Hockey Hall of Fame I am here to start the movement to hopefully get Alex in I mean it it’s beyond crazy everyone I talk to fans players no one understands it and so I just want to present the case once again there’s been countless articles about this over the years but I’m trying to provide a very clear view into what’s going on here and hopefully we could get Alex in so we just start off here Alexander mgy spent 16 years in the league with Buffalo Vancouver the devils and Toronto he was the 89th overall pick in the 1988 draft finished his career with 990 games played 473 goals 559 assists for 1,32 points and he won a cup in 2000 with my beloved New Jersey Devils everyone knows in the 90s Alexander mgy was a huge name Superstar player complete sniper could change a game in a in a Flash and he belongs in the hall and so let’s just take a deep dive now into into some of the reasons why I believe and many others do that Alex mgy belongs in the Hall of Fame first we start off early in his career he was the first to defect from Russia now for those of you that are not familiar with the story in the late 80s Alexander mgy was a superstar player for the USSR um Junior Team wanted to come over to the NHL and this just wasn’t as easy as signing some papers and jumping on a plane this is the s Union they weren’t allowing that and essentially Alexander mgy his life and his family’s life was in Jeopardy when he was trying to defect to come to America to play in the NHL it’s nothing to take lightly there was a great documentary years ago about Alex defecting from Russia to the United States it’s a crazy story I will put the link in the comments for you to watch it’s 100% worth checking out but he was the first to defect from Russia huge deal at the time and he paved the way for a lot of the Russian greats down the line like you know Alexander oetkin Gino malcin tons of these guys may never have been able to come over here if it wasn’t for Alex becoming the first person to defect it’s a huge huge thing in hockey history in and of itself that should not be forgotten and then we get to he is one of the only 30 players in hockey history to be part of the triple Gold Club for those of you that are not familiar with what the triple Gold Club is that is winning the three most most cherished things in the hockey world and that is a Stanley Cup an Olympic gold medal and a world championship medal Alex has won all three of those and technically he he would be in the what I would call the quadruple Gold Club because on top of the cup Olympic gold medal and World Championship medal he also won at the world juniors and so he really is in the quadruple Gold Club not many people could make that claim a winner at every single level he’s played a six-time NHL Allstar during the era in which he played the 90s was loaded with Talent if you if you’re a longtime hockey fan you know you know Brett Hull Eiserman sack forsberg Korea yogger Lemieux Gretzky all the names of that era the N 90s hockey was not like nothing else I don’t think it’ll ever feel the same to me and a lot of people say oh that’s just your bias blah blah blah 90s hockey was absolutely phenomenal some of the star players and to make it an NHL Allstar six times is a true Testament to how good he really was as I mentioned before a 2000 Stanley Cup champion with my beloved New Jersey Devils what a playoff run for those boys what a series Alex was a part of that team L larel felt we needed a little extra something and he brought Alex in and it turned out to be a great addition to the team he was Lethal on the Devils for stretches and he got his cup finally in 2000 as a member of the Devils for those that are looking for IND individual Awards in 2003 Alex was the lady Bing winner and Alex also had the fifth highest single season goal total with 76 goals in only 77 games played as a saber wow I mean almost a goal a game that is that stat is unheard of I I don’t think anyone will ever remotely replicate that again I mean goal scoring is at a premium you know the league is obviously a little bit different now but to almost average a goal a game for 77 games that’s completely insane and that that 76 goal season he had was good for fifth best all time single season Alex had eight seasons of 30 goals or more I would say in my book a 30-goal season is a very good season he did it eight times in his career and it’s not easy and again he was playing in a in an era where I believe the goalies were much better than they are today that’s a topic for a whole a whole another time but he was going up against the greets martan BR dur Dominic hasik Patrick W Eddie Belfor um Curtis Jo etc etc there was tons of great goalies in the league then and he was going out there and and piling up goals eight seasons of 30 goals or more and then when you look at the total here of his career he had 132 points in 990 games played for an average of 1.04 points per game over a point per game for his career and that 1.04 points per game is good for 50th all time in the history of the NHL I mean what are we still talking about here folks look at the resume I mean my God what more did this guy have to do for you to finally put him in the Hall of Fame and I understand you know he might not be the the first ballot immediate selection I could live with that that’s fine I’m not saying he needed to be a first ballot Hall of Famer but the fact that he’s been eligible for about 15 years or so now and he repeatedly gets passed over it’s beyond puzzling it is beyond puzzling and then you know aside from just looking at this resume here which is beautiful 100% Hall of Fame worthy in most people’s books we’ll go to to what we call precedent so now let’s compare Alex to other guys that are already in the Hall of Fame and this is actually a little graphic I took from an NHL Network video I believe from last season where they kind of were talking about Alex in the Hall of Fame and they compared him to Paul Korea mcgil had 990 games played Paul Korea had 989 mgy 473 goals 402 for Korea mgy with 559 assists Korea with 587 M gilney with 1,032 points Korea with 989 and then you see their points per game average there mgy with 1.04 to is 1.0 very very similar very similar stats across the board um Alex with a little more production in the goal department and slightly more assists but he had more points than Korea his points per game average was better and of course he has the cup that Korea did not so I ask when you look at this using Korea in this example as the measuring stick how is Mill not in he has more points a better Point per game average and the cup which Korea does not and so when you when you use just just this one example and we’re going to show more but just this one example of mogil vers Korea it makes people believe that there’s a Canadian bias or something going on with the committee because when you look at everything equally in this scenario it’s pretty glaring that you know with all due respect to Paul Korea Alexander mgy had the better career there’s no way you could tell me he didn’t he had more points more points per game and won a cup end of story there’s nothing to talk about a very glaring kind of tale of the tape there and Alex deserves to get in and I’ll go to the next comparison Daniel alfredson Daniel alerson played 1246 games in the league registering 444 goals 713 assists for 1157 points okay he had a little more a little more points than m gilney but in the end he never won a cup and so now I look at another guy Daniel alfredson great player he was great in the league forever luckily my 2003 Devils got past him and the senators in the Eastern Conference Finals that was an absolutely lethal team the S had at the time but you look and say okay you know alfredson had 124 points more than moil in you know 250 some odd games more than him so is that 10 25 points worth more than a cup alfredson never got a cup so again we look at here very similar stats and point totals very close Mill has a cup Daniel alfson did not so you tell me if you were a player whose career would you have rather had I know I’m picking m gilney i mean it’s just another example of a guy in the hall of fame versus mgy very similar numbers and Alex is still getting passed over and I think we’re in year 15 16 I can’t even keep track anymore it’s it’s been an eternity it seems like articles come out about this every year uh people talk about it and you know now I’m trying to do my part because it is to me a crime that should not stand and then we’ll do one more comparison just for fun Alexander mgy versus Eric Lindros Eric Lindros had 760 games played 372 goals 493 assists for 865 points he won a heart trophy no cup and so you look at this and you say okay I mean now if we’re using this as the barometer again with all due respect to Eric Lindros um what are we talking about here what are we talking about here mgy had 170 points or so more than him and a cup more points and a cup what are we talking about I understand Eric Lindros was a superstar and there was posters of him everywhere and he’s Canadian but in the end if Eric Lindros is a Hall of Famer that I’m sorry to say a guy with a good amount of points more than him and a Stanley Cup in Alexander mgy 100% belongs enshrined in Toronto in the Hall of Fame as well and hopefully the selection committee sees the light of day I’m trying to do my best here I want everyone to use this hashtag mill2 hhf for Hockey Hall of Fame I’m G to post this video on X I’ll put some some other things on Instagram and other things but hopefully everyone kind of retweets this and tags the anyone you can in the selection committee and the Hall of Fame itself to hopefully draw more attention to this and let it be known that as the hockey fan community at large we want Alexander mgy in the Hall of Fame because he deserves it and it’s way overdue in my opinion this is the most egregious crime in hockey since martan broer was robbed of the 2003 KMI trophy I mean J had a great playoffs but he didn’t have it better than Marty and so to me this is the biggest crime in hockey since that time and here we take a look at the selection committee and if you look there’s a lot of Hall of Famers and you know recognizable names on this list when you look and say wow you know you would think this is a good collection of hockey Brain Trust that they would get this right but unfortunately no committee or organization or anything like that is right or perfect 100% of the time and that’s understandable but now is the time for them to get it right and get Alex in the Hall of Fame Fame and so I’m also going to put any social media handles I could find for anyone on the committee in the description on here as well as on X you could find us on X and hopefully we kind of keep the conversation going tag tag all these people that we can use the hash Mogel to hhf and hopefully they finally get it right this year because it’s a complete crime and as hockey fans we should expect better from the Hall of Fame committee we really should I mean this is this story now is just getting old and it’s time for Alex to get in so let me know what you guys think about any of this comment I love talking to you all let’s all use the hash mogil to hhf anything else you could do in terms of tagging selection committee members online on all the various social media platforms we’ll hopefully get our message loud and clear Alexander mgy belongs in the Hockey Hall of Fame and there’s there’s there’s no way around it the man is a hall ofer he deserves to be in Toronto and anything that has happened in the past to keep him black balled or whatever is going on behind the scenes they need to get over it and put this man in because it is a disservice to the hall itself and to the sport of hockey it really is I will talk to you all soon throw out anything in the comments hopefully we get this this movement going and uh hopefully we see Alex get um on the list of the IND inductees in about a week or so really that’s all we could hope like comment subscribe and all that jazz until next time friends let’s get Mill in the hall oh [Applause] [Music]

  1. Top 50 in points per game is a HoF stat for sure.

And 76 goals in 77 games is just out of control. I know it doesn't work that way, but I'd put him in just for that year.

  2. I honestly agree with you runnin ace. Lex mogilny should be inducted. I wasn’t born when he was playing but from what I witnessed he was a fuhking demon. I think you should wait 2 more years bc didn’t some of the players have to wait a long time to get inducted.

  3. It always seems that the HHOF has an anti-Devils, and anti-Slavic, and anti Russian player sentiment. This man was a phenomenal player and defied a lot of odds, and exceeded at the highest level of hockey. HHOF Guy in my eyes.

  4. This gotta be some kind of political issue that is going unsaid, otherwise really there is no discussion..for him paving the way alone, he should be in..never mind his actual HOF career !
