LOS ANGELES KINGS: 2024 NHL DRAFT PREVIEW #nhl #nhldraft #nhldraft2024 #hockey #hockeydraft #LAK
after a very Topsy Turvy season ended in bitter disappointment for the Los Angeles Kings their president of hockey operations Luke roiti and general manager Rob Blake have a very busy summer ahead of them so today we’re going to take a look at the LA Kings roster what they could do with the number 21 pick at the draft and try to answer the big question will they be back in the playoffs this season hey everybody welcome into clear in the bench is your One-Stop shop for daily fresh hockey cont content if you go ahead and hit your subscribe button right now every single day we’ll bring you in a new hockey video to enjoy well if you’re a Kings fan and you’ve been watching this team closely you can see every year last couple of years they’re taking like a little quarter half step back uh I think they need to re-evaluate the roster that they’ve got and I think that’s going to make some really hard decisions this summer for Rob Lake and Luke roai so let’s look at who is running the show out in LA and that is general manager Rob Blake he had played in 1,270 NHL games and he had 777 points he had a booming Slap Shot and he won the Stanley Cup with Colorado in 2001 uh back in uh February uh on the 2nd of 2024 he let go head coach Todd mclen and he named Jim Hiller the interm head coach and then on day 22nd they took the interm tag off and they named him the full-time head coach when we look at the number 21 picks in NHL history the number one guy is Dennis maroo uh when you think of Dennis maroo think of Johnny Upton from slapshot he had that awesome Fu Manchu mustache and back in the day Dennis maroo rocked that mustache Big Time Saku Kovu is the number two guy taken with the number 21 pick and he had 800 132 points in his NHL career Brian smolinsky who spent some times on the kings in his career Sil ABS Pat Flatley of the Islanders Marco sturum who I believe May soon be the new head coach of the San Jose Sharks Kevin low who ran the Oilers for a while Eric Vil Colby Armstrong who we see a lot on the NHL Network Jerry me Joel quinnville and Nevin marquart you want to see a good fight go back on YouTube and check out the fight he had with the guy running the Vegas golden kns president of hockey operations George MC him and nein markwart had a fight at Center ice at Madison Square Garden that I was lucky enough to be there for and it was awesome so you don’t want to miss that one and now we look at the recent number 21s in the NHL in 2019 the Pittsburgh Penguins took Sam pool in 2020 CBJ took a kid I love eigor chikov watch this kid play he is very exciting 2021 Fabian lizel 2022 Owen Pickering and last year Charlie strable was selected with the number 21 pick well we look at what the Kings have been up to with their recent number ones uh 2019 Alex turot we’re still in wait and see mode on that one 2020 21 Quinton Byfield I’m sorry 2020 Quinton bfield 2021 brt Clark uh and then 2022 and 2023 they did not have a first round draft pick when you look at their recent draft picks in my opinion Byfield and Clark are the only two that they’ve hit on as of recent times Well we look at what the Kings have got going on the roster break out the tissues this is going to make you want to cry they’re paying Pierre Luke dub the most money on the team $8.5 million well at least for the forwards he’s the most highest paid all the way through 20 2930 Kevin fiala $7.8 million all the way through 2028 29 and remember he got traded for Brock Faber and it’s working out pretty well for Minnesota with Brock Faber so let’s keep an eye on Kevin fiala uh this year and see how that works out on J copar my opinion should be the most highest paid player on this team and he’s on there for two more years at 7 million Philip to know $5.5 million three years Adrien Kee 5.5 million two more years Trevor Mo $4.2 million at three years I like his game he’s a very well-rounded player and he knows how to find the back of the net Alex lafier one more year at $875,000 and then you’ve got some rfas Quinton Byfield Carl gstr Arthur CV and Blake lazat so those guys are all going to have sit Downs with Rob Blake and Luke roiti uh when you look at the defense here’s where you get the highest paid player on the Kings Drew dowy $1 million for three more years I don’t know that Dow is an 11 million a year player anymore Vlad gabov one more year at $5.8 million Mikey Anderson a guy I really like and so do the kings they’ve got him locked up for $4 million all the way through 20 2930 uh then you get down to the secondary guys Andreas England Kid Likes to drop the gloves one more year at a million dollars you’ve got jacen muar and he’s at$ 775 for two more years and then you’ve got Jordan Spence a 23-year-old RFA and Matt uh Roy is 29 years old and he is a UFA and I think Matt Roy could get paid this off seon uh we look at their go tending situation they’re going to have to figure it out and fast cam tal it already a UFA I don’t think they’re bringing them back and if they do it’s going to be at a reduced price tag and then you got big save Dave rck and he’s got one more year at a million dollars on his contract when you look at what they’ve got in the dead cap space money here’s a name you haven’t heard forever and I can’t believe they’re going to be paying them as long as they’re going to be and that is Mike Richards and they’re going to be paying him about an average of a half a million dollars uh all the way through 2029 2030 I don’t know what they were thinking when they handed them that that contract but I’m sure he ran to sign it that’s for sure now when we look at what the Kings could do at the dra with this number 21 pick uh recently to me only Clark and bfield have really made a big name for themselves as of the kids that they’ve drafted so the thing that I would probably do is I would just stay at 21 and I would look to see if any of these forwards drop down into your lap and if not you don’t get any of the big name guys you know Berkeley katton doesn’t drop all the way down to 21 there are plenty of good guys out here Amil Heming 6′ one right wing out of Finland John mustard a Jersey Boy this kid you’re going to need you’re going to hear his name on draft day and I think it’s going to be on day one uh and then when you look at some other guys they’ve got Sasha boir I’m sorry I can’t pronounce that one but 62 Center out of mosan in the USHL and then youve got you know Liam Green Tree if he drops all the way down another big body and then you can look on the back end you got Spencer Gil he’s out a ruse in the queue and he’s a 6 fo4 defenseman uh Sam O’Reilly he’s a 6’1 rightwing out of London in the OHL and he’s being coached by Dale Hunter so you know it’s almost like you’re playing for a professional hockey team already uh the other thing I think that the Kings could try to do is I think they’re going to want to try to get off of some of these contracts so maybe they would say to somebody who might be enamored uh who doesn’t a first round pick or is picking behind them and maybe they can talk a team into swapping picks and maybe they you know want to move on from a guy like Philip do know I just don’t know is he really going to help your team that much this year at the price tag that you’re paying them what $5.5 million for three more years I think if they could get out from underneath that contract uh they would maybe they could try to you know add the Richards uh dead caps space money in a deal but I think they’re definitely for the most part just going to stand Pat unless there’s some sort of a blockbuster trade that comes their way and then we’d have to you know keep an eye on that as well so that’s going to do it for today’s video we wanted to take a look at what the kings were doing with the number 21 pick they’ve got a lot of guys making a lot of money on this roster so it’s going to be a very interesting few weeks for Rob Blake and also for Luke robati so let me know what you think down in the comments section if you’re a Kings fan let me know who you think they’re going to draft if you could please hit your like button hit your subscribe button and as we always do here clearing the benches let them know you’re out there
The Los Angeles Kings are a professional ice hockey team based in Los Angeles. The Kings compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference and was founded on June 5, 1967, after Jack Kent Cooke was awarded an NHL expansion franchise for Los Angeles on February 9, 1966, becoming one of the six teams that began play as part of the 1967 NHL expansion.[4] The team played its home games at the Forum in Inglewood, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, for 32 years, until it moved to the Staples Center (later renamed to Crypto.com Arena) in Downtown Los Angeles at the start of the 1999–2000 season.

In 2001, Blake was traded to the Colorado Avalanche and was a member of their 2001 Stanley Cup championship team. It was his only Stanley Cup as a player, though he won the Cup again as a member of the Kings’ front office in 2014. After a two-season return to Los Angeles, Blake signed with the San Jose Sharks in 2008, retiring as its captain after the 2009–10 season. Four years later, in 2014, Blake was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Internationally, Blake played for Canada in three consecutive Winter Olympics in 1998, 2002 and 2006, winning gold in 2002 and becoming the 11th member of the Triple Gold Club. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2018.
