Falcons QB Situation Just Got A LOT BETTER

[Music] [Applause] all right let’s talk about the Atlanta Falcons here for a little bit look this is a Falcons team that’s obviously been in the news a lot this offseason first the big signing of Kurt Cousins and the drafting of Michael penck Jr a lot of people are questioning what the Falcons are trying to do at the quarterback position but you when you sit down and actually go into the analytics and you evaluate the numbers you realize the Falcons have a really smart strategy here we’ve talked about it before but as time goes on it proves to be more and more so now if you look at recent news anyone’s followed the NFL has heard that Trevor Lawrence quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars just signed an absolutely massive long-term deal joining the ranks of quarterbacks like Jared gof who are going to get signed or who already got signed in fact let’s go ahead and pull up the chart of the current uh ranking in terms of average cap hit per year in the NFL at the quarterback position and there you can Trevor Lawrence just signed his big deal he’s number one $55 million a year and you can see Kirk Cousins right there at the very bottom of the list top 10 which if you look at his PFF grade Kurt Cousins in 2021 and 2022 his last two healthy years he finished fifth and seventh in quarterback rating so you’re looking at a guy here Kurt Cousins who top seven quarterback according to the analytics at number 10 of a price feels like a steal especially when you’re considering the fact that both Tua Jord Love and Dak Prescott have looming deals coming down their Pike as well which means Kirk Cousins will be a top seven quarterback according to the analytics at number 13 ranking in terms of price which is of course an incredible steal for the Atlanta Falcons Again part of a long-term smart strategy that the Falcons are using here people aren’t giving credit for but I think they’ve done a great job M I’m curious what your thoughts are on this but first Falcons fans in the comment section Below based on how everything is shaking out this offseason looking at the mega deals guys like Trevor Lawrence are getting for example who I like Trevor Lawrence but you know how good is he really he hasn’t really shown a whole lot consistently at this point how would you grade the Falcons deal with Kurt Cousins do you give it an A+ do you think they knocked out of the part do you hate it give it a D give us your grade of the Falcons deal with Kurt Cousins and put it in the comment section below but my what do you make of how the Falcons are situated right now with how they’ve structured everything at the quarterback position well me Nick I think it was a great deal because when you look at the numb on paper and I’m going to say this probably a little bit controversial so hate me in the comments if you want to hate me go ahead but you look at this list I think there’s multiple quarterbacks on this list that I would rather have Kurt Cousins this year than have those guys I’d probably rather have Kurt Cousins over deshaan Watson right now I’d probably rather have Kurt Cousins over Kyler Murray I I’d probably go as far to say I would rather have kurk cousins over Jaylen Herz I know that one’s a little bit tougher but the Eagles had a very down year last year I I think that they weren’t the same as they were the previous year and I just think Kurt Cousins is so consistent that’s the key with Kurt Cousins he gives you that same high-end level of performance that’s like a upper middle level of performance all the time so for him to be on this list and there’ be a couple guys mixed in there which some people may disagree I think there’s at least two guys on there I definitely inarguable that he I would rather have him than them on my team right now I think you him for a steal of a deal I mean obviously Patrick Mah’s probably better than Kurt Cousins Joe burrow that one’s a little bit tougher because of the injuries there you know Joe burrow he’s young he’s but he’s got a lot of injuries as well you know Justin Herbert probably more talented Jared go there I would say they’re probably relatively similar but the age Jared gof is much younger but Kurt Cousins has paid less than all of these guys I think this is a great deal for the Atlanta Falcons and I think people they just want to hate to Hate and when you break it down as Falcons fans and you look in the numbers you look at what is going on around that quarterback you just see the big number and you’re like wow this guy’s old why do we pay him so much you didn’t you really didn’t pay him that much you got a really good quarterback for if you look at all the players around him a pretty good deal so I think this was a great move by the Falcons I think it’s showing that they have a very smart front office right now and this team is heading in the right direction and here’s the interesting part right because everyone’s like well Kirt cousins he’s older than everybody on the list he’s 36 if you look at how the FAL structured the deal with Kurt Cousins after the next two seasons so we’re talking two years from now the Falcons could cut Kurt Cousins and according to over the cap.com they would free up $33 million $32.5 million in cap space right so two years from now the Falcons are going to be in position to evaluate Michael penx Jr and say okay he’s the guy we’re ready to turn over the franchise to him Kurt Cousins we’ll see you later thanks for the two years we’ll move on from you we’ll get $33 million in Cav space when we do that or if Michael Penn Jr is the guy then in two years they can draft another quarterback and then also move on from Kurt Cousins and save $33 million so no matter what they do two years from now they’re in a perfect position to transfer off of Kurt Cousins if he is showing that signs of age whether with Michael penx Jr or draft a different guy right they’ve set up themselves absolutely perfectly that everyone knows Kurt Cousins has two to four years left realistically on his career if he goes more than that it would be a big surprise but the Falcons put themselves in a position with this deal to perfectly align thems especially when they drafted Michael penck Jr to that timetable if kurk cousins after two years is washed guess what you already have a potential starter in the wings or you can go draft one then if he’s got more in the tank hey maybe you set on Michael penck Jr a little longer Allah Jordan love with the Green Bay Packers until it’s time to finally move on Kur cousins right again the Falcons have set themselves up absolutely perfectly at the quarterback position and I agree with you I’m Blown Away in the media how everyone is just so hating the hate on what the Falcons have done here it just seems seems like the franchise to pick on right now it reminds me a little bit of when the Lions started making moves with Dan Campbell a few years ago and Dan Campbell was kind of mocked and the lions were kind of mocked no one’s laughing now when you look at how good Detroit has become I think we’re going to see the same effect in Atlanta
