Will the NJ Devils SIGN Nikita Zadorov or Chris Tanev? Jakob Markstrom may be a factor!

notification Bell to all thank you all so much and let’s get started so Frank clli and Tom fitzerald talked about what the Devils may do to revamp their defense leading into this off season and you know with the recent acquisition acquisition of Jacob markstrom can he convince one of his old buddies to possibly play in front of him again and either Nikita zorov or Chris tanov so um I want to talk about them in this video so please stay with me throughout so Frank sarelli on a recent face off live said that the New Jersey Devils are looking for a top forward defenseman and a bottom forward defenseman um Fitzgerald was on a recent overdrive and he said that he wants New Jersey Devil’s roster to get a bit uh a little heavier get a little edgier a little more violence would be great so enter the conversation exactly Nikita’s door and Chris tanov um you know talking about Nikita zadorov first per Rick Dela wal um both sides tried talking extensions during the playoffs but we’re far apart on numbers and term no discussion since um hearings news come out afterwards according to Frank sarelli that Nikita zadorov is looking for a six-year deal worth around in the uh $6 million range annually so that’s a heavy price to pay for physical defense Defan you know looking at Nikita zadorov he’s 66 236 he’s a big body out there 29 years old uh he’s currently making 3.75 million on his current contract it expires to the end of this year he’s a UFA averages around 17 to 18 minutes of ice time he had 178 hits so he loves to hit out there 60 block shots this year um looking at his stats uh this past year he played with the in between with the Canucks and the Flames 75 games he played he uh scored six goals 14 assists 20 points in 2223 he played with the Flames 82 games 14 goals 7 assists 21 points and in 2122 he play with the Flames 74 games played four goals 18 assists 22 points so he’s been a consistent 20o getter over his career he plays a two-way defensive style sneaky offens man uh sneaky defenseman who has a sneaky uh offensive shot he’s a punishing hitter and he’s a middle pair car in D so you know we’ve seen what happened in the playoffs this past season playing with the Canucks you know I remember that goal when he was sneaking down the left side just sniped the shot top shelf you know goalie wasn’t expecting it he put it on n and it was a goal that kind that changed the game you know he he does that he’s got a heavy shot and he puts the puck on net on any angle so he’s got a sneaky deceptive way of of putting the puck on net and it works out sometimes but he had a really good um uh playoffs with the cans he played in 11 games he had four goals four assists eight points uh plus four I believe so he had a really good uh year this year in the playoffs and you know Rick taket has said recently that you know they’re trying to sign him to an extension with the Vancouver cans you know they liked the element he brought in with the locker room um you know there’s been a bad rap with n’s durov have he doesn’t play consistent style so it’s kind of a buyer be wear on his next contract cuz he’s going to want some term and a high dollar amount so it’s a hard sit situation to see what’s going to happen with this I like the way Nikita zadorov plays he’s a heavy hitter he plays a punishing style of hockey and um you know he’s he’s just one of those players that a lot of teams need so he’s going to be highly coveted as the um free agency op so we’ll see with the New Jersey Devils trading out Kevin B I’m sure they’re going to be looking for a big body defenseman so Nikita zor fits that bill but are are they willing to pay a contract that pays him 6 years at 6 million so we’ll have to wait and see but looking over to Chris tanov Chris tanov is a uh 34 year-old defenseman 62 196 lbs uh currently on a $4.5 million contract not an offensive defenseman at all he played in this year he split time between the flames and the Stars 75 games played one goal four assists Five Points um he plays a lot of ice time averaging over 20 minutes of ice 207 block shots he sacrifices his body to block shots we saw that one game where he took the puck to the face on a slap shot um went to go get stitched up came back later in the game so this guy just battles he competes he’s a warrior and he matches up against top six opponents you know in round one he played 46 uh 46 around 47 minutes versus Jack eigel at five on five and the stars were up 3 nothing and round two he played a little under 69 minutes um versus McKinnon at five on five and he was then the stars were up 3 to one so he logs heavy minutes against top opposition and uh you know just plays well against him he shuts them down he’s able to stick with them he’s got a good stick he blocks a lot of shots and he’s able to transition the puck uh really well for a u you know not a not a productive defenseman so you know these are two defenseman that a lot of teams are going to covet as we enter free agency um you know if you’re looking at a zor be looking more of that physical big hitting defenseman where if you look looking at Chris tanov you’re looking more about that uh reliable steady defenseman who plays a smart defensive game so you know both of these both of these sort of attributes is what the Devils need I don’t think they could uh sign both of them because is going be a lot against the cap you know the Devils have about 16 a little over 16 million in cap space so you know looking at signing both them would be a lot against the cap you know with looking at what else Fitzgerald wants to acquire up front as well uh we’re set in net you know looking at what he’s doing on defense adding two defenseman and uh two forwards as well it’s going to be a lot to get that under 60 million when you’re looking to resign dwon Mercer as well so we’ll see what happens but you know these are two good names out there that a lot of teams are going When Free Agency Opens on July 1st Will the NJ Devils SIGN Nikita Zadorov or Chris Tanev? Both were names on the Devils radar when the trade deadline came and went and now that the NJ Devils traded for goaltender Jakob Markstrom the first thing I thought. Does this make Zadorov and Tanev more willing to sign with the Devils to play in front of their former friend and netminder again. It is possible.
The Devils traded off Big Defenseman Kevin Bahl and clearly may make room for another Defenseman to sign in Free agency. With the windows being short with Markstrom with his current contract expiring in 2 seasons and his age will Tom Fitzgerald and the Devils go all in and try for one of or both of Zadorov and Tanev.
With the defensive struggles they endured last season I wouldnt be surprised to see them kicking the tires on these 2 veteran defenseman.
