and the big news came down earlier this morning but on Friday’s opening round coverage of the draft last night Kevin weeks the NHL Insider just casually dropped in I had dinner last night with Logan Thompson down at barries at Circa just casually like dropped that in so that was my sign that something was brewing so Thompson again traded earlier on Saturday morning goes to the Washington Capitals in exchange for third round rounder next year and the third round pick in this year’s draft amounted to a goal tender is that is that right GOC we just pulled this up a second ago the go they drafted Pavel moich out of the KHL 14 career games but dude’s got a 942 save percentage one 121 goals against and he’s 6 foot five so let’s go that’s the project for you does this now mean that Yer Peta the other guy is truly the other guy as he gets passed up by another guy that seems to be the reality girl it’s a little better that seems to be the reality Carl lindblum uh seems to be making his way over to the NHL right now and I think uh Lind Blum becomes Patera and uh who knows I mean maybe moich is uh maybe that’s the man who knows we’ll see this is um yeah here we go happy Saturday okay you said not the goalie of the future Logan Thompson for vgk you got the fish face meme uh what was that last summer or two summers ago what was couple years ago yeah and to be fair then I I was actually on board with your take about maybe uh Logan getting getting moved as part of a deal to shed like a contract of Someone Like A William Carlson or something and then I got uh Logan got me for that and then I’m fast forward a little bit I said something is coming that no one is going to expect and I did name Thompson in an article for inside the rink about 45 50 days ago and everybody said I was nuts and people disagreed with it and um not that I’m taking a Victory lap right now but I know this team pretty well I’ve spent some time around it I’ve been around it from the fan perspective for since day effing one as people like to say in this in this in this town and it just it’s something that I kind of saw coming and it’s clear Logan was not the future goalie um the argument we’re going to make now is the return great enough and I feel the return is a little bit lights but let’s see what the end game is here we’ll hit that probably in the second segment obviously okay so Washington where LT is headed um they dealt Darcy keer right to the Kings so he’ll have to contend with Charlie lingren uh I think he’s VNA he didn’t he get a heart Vote or a vzna vote or something like that from the from the local WR DK media already voting for the emotional side there and LT will get several votes next year even if he has a three point something goals against average I never believed I never believed that either of these goenda Aiden was the man let’s be clear about this by the contract obviously they gave him they gave him the bag yeah they gave him the bag well first of all was in the dogghouse and then of course they started to like him and then they overpaid him and now vgk is stuck with a $5 million do contract for at least one more year at a time where it desperately needs to shed some space by the time we’re done with this that could change in the next 20 minutes Tony so let’s just hold our breath on that for a second um let’s acknowledge Logan Thompson for a second here dude pops up everywhere in town supporting the WNBA supporting all sorts of local sports he’s at the Nighthawk games he is everywhere um he is awesome with the fans he is just a genuine good dude who I think a good dude yeah he’s a great model Sports citizen for Southern Nevada professional sports and kind of like Jonathan marches so I don’t know what more Logan Thompson could have done to show from a public perspective that his heart is in this city and he’s not going these games as a as an ambassador he’s is Logan Thompson someone who just likes to go and supports and I think that’s really important to to mention here um yes I did not feel Logan was the future that’s not because I think he was a bad goalie that’s not because I think he did a bad job it’s simply because sha Burke chose Aiden Hill in every important circumstance over Logan Thompson until the team had absolutely no choice um I felt Aiden or excuse me I felt Logan should have been the future of the team I felt they should have found a way to the next flurry one of my friends texted me they traded away the next flurry too much well maybe that’s but point is I don’t know if this is the right deal but I saw this from a mile away yeah it was obvious it was obious of course the recent talks there about a Marner trade and going to Toronto and those six teams that were mentioned by David pagata earlier in the week not one of them uh so you had Toronto the Senators the Red Wings Buffalo and Carolina and so we could still perhaps have Aiden Hill on the Move uh nothing’s on he’s not safe right he’s I’m going on Twitter just make sure we’re not missing anything right now um I would not be surprised if vgk just scrapped everything at the goalie position and started fresh um Aiden Hill so from a stats perspective Aiden and Logan are the same goalies their career save percentages were within I think we talked about this earlier in the week they were within like like 1000s of each other their goals against were within 100ths of each other they’re the same goalie now where I think Logan Thompson has the edge over Aiden Hill is Health Aiden Hill never had greater than 35 regular season appearances where Logan Thompson’s regular season appearances when he was a full-time vgk I think we’re 37 the pre the Stanley Cup season and 45 this past season so I think the upside for Logan is certainly there or it was there and then the Caps are going to find out about that um and we’ll see what happens with Aiden I mean so what the goalie pecking order in Vegas as it sits right now is Aiden Hill Yuri p is a free agent and doesn’t is number one mo mo mo Mich mesich I can’t say however you said it okay Mich yeah he’s the man oh hey 1.21 goals against average I’ll take them you know what listen track record with players from the K you got chipev you got miranov you know it’s a little it’s a little Hit or Miss dor we’ll see so every other player hits so we’ll see D is happy because NE Pavo will be a team member here and then and then is this a panic move though for vgk what is the why did they make this move if they’re only shed um it should have been when they did his contract it should have been an even 777 th000 Vegas dollars instead of chump change or whatever 700,000 plus whatever I mean what kind of a move is this is this a panic move is it a panic move no no it’s not a panic move I don’t know is this a move to show that they just didn’t like the guy he fell out of favor there’s like I said so I I just put a tweet out right before we came on the air don’t judge the Logan thps and trade by itself the question that needs to be asked of golden KN fans on July 3rd which is going to be this coming Wednesday or next Wednesday however you want to look at that are the golden knights a better team on July 3D than they were on June 28th the Logan Thompson trade is interesting there is a gap right now there there’s a gap in goal I don’t think moich is going to be the backup right off the bat but maybe I don’t know maybe he’s a starter who knows maybe he’s maybe he’s going to Reno where apparently we don’t know if we have an ECHL affiliate up there yet or not just gets Tony G say that so there’s a gap right now in the goal there’s questions it’s not Lyn Blum I don’t think it’s moich I don’t it’s Yuri Patera doesn’t have a contract yet um as far as what else this is that’s gonna be for the second segment how Okay as we round out this first segment I’m just dude how come no one can congratulated the Florida Panthers a lot of people are saying that you’re not you’re not alone you um from wieg are are locked on Florida Panthers counterpart pointed that out as well I mean it’s it’s a classy thing I don’t understand why no one would it’s Petty it’s Petty city right it’s it’s so petty they piss someone off like what what did the Florida Panthers do like they’re a good team like I don’t know and then and then Mr sourface gets up there from vgk doesn’t say hey thanks to they have to trade for an everyday which I’ve been saying for two years that’s just been my contention that after leoner went South and went back to the Snake Farm and did all that stuff I’ve been saying all along they need an everyday goalie Mr GOC you’re not wrong um or they need a 1A and a 1B from a health perspective that can check those boxes Logan was that man he’s not here anymore but Logan was reliable for his three SE Seasons with the big club and very reliable with the silver Knights as well dude just did everything right but he’s no longer a golden Knight did dude did everything is that a song title Tony is that is that our uh EP anyway so yes there is a void right now and we’ve talked about Samson off we’ve talked about uh three or four different goalies and a lot of scuttlebutt right now is about askarov from the PRS too you’re hearing a lot about that but supposedly the asking price there is a little more than Maybe what market value is golden knights love you know maybe taking a shot so maybe that is the end game I don’t know but if that’s going to happen I don’t see the gold the knights going from 5 point call it 5.6 million at the position up to what eight or nine million at the position I don’t know what his contract is offand but here’s where the golden knights are right now this move now elevates the golden knights to 6.9 million and change in salary cap space that does include Robin leoner being LTI so there’s not 5 million more coming right now today the gold Knights can spend about $6.9 million we’ve gone up and back about what we think the marcheso aav is going to be if he is extended in Vegas I mean listen Tony you love to point this out and you’re pretty on the spot when you do when the golden kns have a little bit of bad news they back it up with some good news so maybe March so and bran got together with McMan before this and said hey the number is 6. 825 four years lock this thing down right now McMan said okay I gotta go to the bank boom Logan Thompson you’re off to Washington maybe that’s what’s about to happen Tony maybe that’s what’s about to happen that’s true they should have played Stars Stars and Stripes Forever I should have I should have told DJ Joe Green to have that queued up that would have been phenomenal out there I did like the goal horn as the trade horn that’s pretty cool that was cool really yeah anytime there was a trade trade they blew up the uh the goal horn there that thing’s going to be going that thing’s going to be pretty busy today I think but we’ll see yeah it should be a lot of action today and we did expect this and again fans there’s not enough space perhaps it’s some space but not enough with just lt’s salary it’s not a cap relief move although it’s a capitals relief move and $770,000 what was you know what was Savage was so they could have waited oh no I guess they couldn’t have waited or they could have done this last night so Logan Thompson was signing Upper Deck autographs 8 by10 if you will today at the booth at 10:00 a.m. and Jason Hernandez our good friend from the lock on Anaheim Ducks said that Thompson was getting emotional in talking to the vgk staff they probably he probably didn’t know this morning he probably showed up at the booth they said hey you’re traded and you’re now signing for the Washington Capitals but he still as a trooper signed the autographs I’m curious to find out how LT was told that he was traded was he in the shower you think something always gives that was Darcy keer right was he was he in the car driving and like his phone just lit up did he did the team give him that courtesy I don’t know I mean there there’s a million questions and again I just watched my Twitter just blow Kevin week dinner did Kevin weeks buy or did Logan Thompson buy I think Kevin weeks probably has a higher higher salary yeah oh by far yeah I’m not even joking when I say that Logan gets gets crumbs the return for this is is the question right I mean the two third round picks what do the golden knights do with third round picks nothing now the end game this does give the golden knights now they did make the they already used one of their third round picks so they have another third round pick for 2025 maybe at some point today or tomor tomorrow that third round pick is involved in a trade I don’t know um as far as the endgame here like I said maybe this is just the money that was needed to extend March or so I don’t if that’s the right way to spend the money but if that’s what they do fine so be it that’s the decision or does this release enough salary cap space for part two here I mean again if you incl include a trade with a shay Theodore or bra McNab that’s 5 million in change depending on how you shake it well all of a sudden now you’re looking at you know 10 11 million in acquiring what do they need for Marty need to get to 10.9 so McNab Theodore gets you there no questions asked but I always thought Logan Thompson was a part of that trade package as well I mean Logan Thompson is probably one of their best trading chips honestly and now they got they got this this guy out of the KHL who maybe is going to be the man I don’t know it’s nothing would surprise me at this point or this other third round pick that the team now has just maybe that’s what’s going to put them over the hump in some Moneyball Brad Pit type of trade with uh another team that mcc’s going to do in the next half hour I don’t know yeah there’s going to be another interesting move this is just one of those setup moves in a sequence of moves for vgk if you were to guess who is the next Vegas Golden Nights player to be dealt away is it Theodore if I’m going to bet at fand today next player to be dealt I’d say Theodore and Hill would be my one two yeah I mean Theodore plus 250 Hill probably plus about 850 I don’t think it’s that I mean let’s let’s take a realistic perspective we we can’t look at this from a video game perspective right now you can do goofy things like trading your your number one and number two goalie and doing whatever in in NHL 24 25 whatever they’re on right now I think that would be a very bold statement for the gold Knights just to scrap both their goalies and start fresh now they will I I I Pro I project that they would I’m not against that Tony if they do let’s I’m with you I’m I’m with you I’m not against that if they do um they overpaid Aiden Hill if even if they over Hill okay let’s say over Vegas now right let’s say bgk has to retain a percentage of the salary 25% would they do it no no even they won’t retain anything wow now but they would shed they would get rid of about four million how about Aden Hill and a third round pick in the 2025 draft for future considerations last night the ESPN coverage they said marner’s going nowhere they said he’s staying there in Toronto talking extension it sounds like so we’ll see yeah so but bgk needs they need that big chip they have to make a SP s Bennett free agent or or Reinhardt one of them is a free agent yeah that’ll be interesting uh know oh and in addition in addition for Logan Thompson he gets acquired not only by the capitals but he has his own analytic site in capitals friendly cap friendly now pretty good he’s gonna be better he’ll be better uh coming up next uh we take a look back again Chris there’s a lot of hockey ties to the movie so he’s saying our Young Guns team can beat the fog horns I don’t know about that they’re pretty good buddy all right so back to the news Kelly McMan would not tell Leah hexall what was said in the interview with Trevor Connelly he was a sour Sour Puss man uh the golden knights controversial pick at number 19 was Connelly in the mock draft that won Chris gock made two weeks ago your pick was Trevor Connelly I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that he was like the best available too at number 19 I was like oh my God no I’ll never hear the end of this who a MRE someone traded up behind the golden knights and it seemed like they wanted him from what he was gonna be gone exactly there was a move right there uh but congrats on making that pick and vgk again just one of 22 teams that was going to take a gamble on Trevor Connelly a ton of negative news came out in the aftermath stuff that we had already researched about just racial improprieties and again uh the fact that he was ejected I’m more appalled that he was ejected from the world championships in the championship in the T I remember that too that’s F I had no idea that was conell I never remember until yesterday yeah and then well he’s gonna go to Providence College right so by the time it happens here by the time he makes it to Tahoe if that’s going to happen if he makes it to Tahoe go by the time he makes it that’s okay he go it to Henderson yeah by the time he makes it to Henderson uh will all be forgotten about this kid forgotten is a big word um especially with all the the people um got some baggage he he’s getting dragged right now and um and there’s baggage I mean so listen this has a golden Knight situation written all over it now let me make sure I’m clear about this here you had pton Krebs we talked about this a little bit on Friday I I’ll just recap it here you got pton Krebs his stock drops before the draft his is an injury situation golden knights go for the value and they wind up getting the value out of him not because pton Krebs ended up really being a great NHL but pton Krebs was the key piece of the Jack eel deal so you look at how that situation played out it was pretty clear that the golden knights were willing to not look past look past is not the right way to put it but look at the total ity of what I mean he’s still kind of’s still a kid and you’re looking at what he did two years ago when he was barely even old enough to drive I’m not excusing it but a lot of people have done a lot of dumb things in their life they live they learn they get better and the golden knights do have a culture at least inside that locker room of leadership of players making each other better you look at Jack eel a lot of people didn’t have a lot of positivity to say about a lot of positive things about Jack e locker room cancer locker room this locker room that bad leader Buffalo no one in Buffalo wants anything to do with the guy he gets to Vegas he’s all of a sudden running the charity softball game uh he’s connected to what the Big Brothers Big Sisters I hope I said that right I’m not sure if I said that wrong I’m sorry doing Raising Canes after winning winning the Stanley Cup he’s done all sorts of amazing things in the city and you wonder how much that is just eel becoming you know growing and becoming an adult and how much of that is from inside the organization about having a locker room full of former captains and just good leaders around him and it’s gonna be a a minute until connley gets to experience that because he’s going back to school and stuff hopefully he continues on the right path as it seems like he is on the right path now but once he does get to a professional AHL NHL locker room the support is going to be there for him and dude can play hockey he had like what 70 something points in his last season and like like 40 something games whatever the numbers were so no doubt about the skill I think he had top five top six upside in the draft as far as just from a skill perspective of course his stock dropped and golden kns are taking a chance and if he ever takes the ice as a member of the golden knights in a game situation we’ll see but he’s either going to hopefully at some point make the roster or be an important piece and making the gold Knights better you know in the next uh the later today or in the next uh next um I don’t know two three years who knows oh that’s awfully cute there that’s so cute yeah awfully awfully cute with all the local media for cloud taking photos of Logan Thompson at the autograph table that’s just super uh I did get a tweet there I’m getting a ton of messages from friends um the Rick season sent out a tweet I got to read this one too and I’m not doing this to boast nor do I any more clout in this world uh but he said I remember you bringing up the knights confidence level in their goal tending quite a bit this year and he said one’s gone I bet the other one is just about gone too they just have one left so that’s pretty interesting because we did talk a lot on this very show we talked a bunch about the confidence level in vk’s cending and you know what people can blast me as much as they wna but I’m real and I’m not going to sugarcoat anything and I’m just going to give you I don’t have to be positive all the time but I’m not being negative by telling you the truth that’s all I’m gonna say that’s all I’m gonna say I mean that’s one of the funds of this show I think we are both pretty honest on both sides of it and um you know like we’re not dogging Logan Thompson by any means but there were concerns about being honest we being honest we were so honest about him well in the golden knights also I did feel if there is if there’s a spot where I’m going to be a little negative on Logan I am curious how he was going to handle a contract here I am curious how he would react to situations because this is a very important year for Logan does Logan get $2 million a or does he wind up being a five or six million dollar goalie after this does he get extended does he get extended before the season is that part ofas definitely not in Vegas Washington hopefully yes I’m saying is that part of the deal that they’re going to extend him yeah and you wonder if did have maybe this will come out you wonder if Logan did have a meeting with Kelly hey where do I sit you know are we am I am I the goalie of the future can we talk about in extension where you know there’s nothing wrong with the player saying hey where am I at and again you have to think Logan and Kelly do have a good relationship you got the Brandon weat Kings going all the way back this is someone that probably if I if I had to assume McMan curated from the beginning going back to the Brandon days and then obviously gets to Henderson as an undrafted uh free agent and here we are today talking about Logan not bringing a big enough return because he was did a pretty good job with this team did a great job did a great job in the community I think he’s G supposed to still be at the softball game in a week and a half oh jez how many players how many players on the softball game are gonna be traded there’s the line how many players will not show up because they’ve been traded they’re gonna have that presid talk about roster reconstruction I wanted Marner man pull hitter from the right side he uh he definitely worked out with the Toronto Blue Jays a bunch oh I did want to say before we leave too I have this story from yesterday I was telling you I was going to catch up with ver Andre Stevenson right running back from the New England Patriots and vgk going through Jonathan Marsh is so going through a very similar situation so Stephen was headed into his contract year and the New England Patriots they extended him a couple weeks ago he got the bag he got the Bag N million a year and I think 18 million is guaranteed he’s the same kid that he was two weeks ago he’s absolutely the best he’s a great guy in any event I had to ask him about that feeling of security like what does that mean how comfortable are you now going into the contract year or how uncomfortable would you have been if they did not extend you and he said it’s unbelievable because what it does is it shows the faith in his team and the Patriots that they have in him that was number one he goes yeah you know what you’re not really secure you’re not feeling good you’re wondering what’s going to happen in a season anything goes right and they extended him a 4year deal additionally so he’s good for the next five most of it’s guaranteed great for him and his family Vegas kid super but why why in the world this is you know what you wake me up on a Saturday morning for crying out loud why in the world wouldn’t vgk give marsho that assurance that has to be at the head of the list when we’re talking about the contract negotiations it never ever should have gotten to this point or they could have done it in season even when they said they don’t negotiate or give out contracts in season Liz you good I was just going to start talking about the presidential debate if you no why not I mean no I mean listen we have to acknowledge who the Vegas golden knights are this is the evil empire like it or not this is Empire it’s the medieval medieval Empire and that works both ways make sure you put my trademark on that okay hashtag cordasco so listen it’s the medieval Empire like it or not that’s the reality of what this gold kns team is McMan is going to make the best possible move for whatever the plan is right now the plan is a Stanley Cup this year next year and the year after that what happens around 2027 2028 when Mel’s 37 years old and he’s not going be 37 but it’s a joke when all these players are a lot older then obviously we’ll reassess then but now the plan is a Stanley Cup mcm’s not going to apologize he’s not going to go up on the podium and say oh that trade hurt for Logan Thompson he’s going to he will explain himself it’ll be quick and brief at some point today and that’s fine um and he doesn’t need to give anything more the only thing that matters what Kelly McMan does is finding a way to make the golden knights a Stanley Cup competing team and he’s gonna do that not gonna apologize he’s not g to care once you’re gone he’s dead to you you’re you’re dead to Kelly McMan once you’re off the golden knights and that’s what the reality is of this team and how it’s managed if you got a problem with Su if you have a problem with success go be a Sab fan go be a sharks fan who am I right now who am I you’re Logan Thompson in a postgame interview that was me I Thompson in a postgame interview I just remember the one LT presser I think you were there where I asked the question I asked the question go go go go ahead this is vintage yeah no I asked Logan the question just about handling the Press pressure um because he was going through a tough time and I wanted to you know see just where his mind was at and he gave a very honest and heartfelt answer without looking at anybody um very uncomfortable but talking about how lucky he is to be where he is and he’s not going to be a Vegas golden KN forever he made a comment like that I’ll find it I’m going to repost it later today after this goes up um but the point is just real fast where I’m going with this if you have a problem with success and a team being successful and how the gold kns go about their business then jump ship go support the Sharks go support the Sabers go support the Panthers for 10 years until they got to where they are now like there’s a lot of teams that struggle to get to where the golden knights are and it’s going to be a rough bumpy ride at times but at the end of the day T-Mobile’s still going to be sold out because it’s a good product on the ice it has a chance to compete for the Stanley Cup Logan Thompson deal hurts um yes I was right about Logan not be in the future but I love the dude I like the guy a lot as far as a human what he did on the in his leadership and it didn’t end up working out long term so be it um it’s about I guess it’s the the name on the back means nothing the crest on the front the only thing that matters and as we’ve said before for a lot of these players getting traded is not the worst thing but potentially the best thing because they get a greater opportunity end of story anything outside of Vegas for Logan was a greater opportunity let’s be clear absolutely
