🚨 BREAKING: Donovan Mitchell agrees to max extension with Cavaliers | Get Up
welcome back to get up we got breaking news and for that let’s go to our senior NBA Insider Adrien wowski wge what do you have for us Brian massive news for the Cleveland Cavaliers Donovan Mitchell their five-time All-Star guard has agreed to a three-year 50.3 million contract extension that includes a player option in 2027 that would allow a pathway uh for Mitchell to do another extension then uh with 10 years of NBA service that would make him eligible for a 5ye $380 million plus extension so now the cabs uh they have Donovan Mitchell under contract Beyond this next season and listen a big big part of this is the relationship Mitchell has built with this organization with Kobe Alman their president my gany their GM uh and his excitement for where this organization is and where he thinks they can go they met Saturday in Los Angeles uh Donovan Mitchell his agent uh Austin Brown who’s the co-head of basketball at CA uh with uh Kobe Alman and really laid out together a vision a partnership for how they imagine this going for the future and Donovan Mitchell uh committing now to this three-year 50.3 million extension mention uh he’s under contract now guaranteed 4 years $185 million but you know this is a Cleveland team that got to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs Kenny ainson is their new coach uh but Donovan Mitchell commits here uh to a fairly long-term deal with this Cavaliers organization and again uh he can opt out of this deal in 27 and then he’s eligible for a Jason Tatum like deal uh that could potentially be worth with the new money’s coming in the league maybe nearly $400 million Brian well that that that’s key when you talked about the relationship there uh W because you know obviously they got a new coach they’re in Cleveland and at at one point there were people saying that maybe Donovan Mitchell Wayne want to leave Cleveland come to New York but it seems that he’s happy with the direction there and that’s the reason why for resigning there in Cleveland W no absolutely Brian and I talked to Donovan Mitchell at the end of the season just after they were elim ated um by Boston and he said to me I am happy in Cleveland and uh I am proud of what we’ve done so far that he knows he wants to do more he doesn’t want to be part of a team that’s you know just a perennial conference semifinalist he thinks and and and rightly so there’s a pathway in Cleveland with the emergence of Evan Mobley they got an All-Star Center and Jared Allen uh the growth of this young group and and some belief uh with the arrival of Kenny ainson uh that they can Elevate this team um but you know he’s he’s really liked his time in Cleveland he believes in this management this ownership group and they are all in on uh Donovan Mitchell and again they met over the weekend they agreed on this on Saturday this didn’t just happen today um but certainly for Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs they they are locked down together moving forward and they’ll continue to try to build that Cavaliers uh Team um to take on Boston Philly uh New York in the East it’s breaking news and it is a w bomb Donovan Mitchell three years $150 million extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers thank you wge uh that is part of some big news here as we welcome you back here on get up coming to you live from the sea port brought to you by Chase gentlemen we got to talk about that because uh Donovan Mitchell resigning there with the Cavaliers and listen you you know this as well there was a lot of talk about maybe Donovan Mitchell wanting to come back home to New York but obviously staying there in Cleveland yeah I mean it was the connection with the Knicks that that he was hoping to have at some point the Knicks had an opportunity to trade for him two years ago decided not to do it and so therefore he ended up in Cleveland and there was always this thought that that was a temporary stay but things changed in New York by the way the direction the Knicks went in and so that opportunity to come here which the Knicks were very interested in him it just wasn’t going to happen now for here I think for Cleveland it’s his ability now to put 10 toes down in Cleveland and to stay there and he has a new coach in Kenny ainson and Kenny ainson is a New York guy as well and I think that they’re going to can I believe they’ve already had conversations I think they’re going to connect really well there and so this is something that he does have the ability in 2026 to make a decision either I will think about opting out or I will sign an extension to stay here even longer so it does give him some flexibility but it also gives him that ability to put all the conversation away that he’s now a Cavalier for good Tim you know he averaged I’m talking about Mitchell 285 and five in those two seasons in C look he averaged 30 in the playoffs I mean this kid bald out there for Cleveland yeah look Donovan Mitchell when the Cavs traded for him they had said they had Evan Moy they had Darius scarlin Jared Allen they could create a big four with those guys and they thought it would be enough to get Donovan Mitchell to stick around for a while and it has worked and he is going to commit there now for a couple years this was always to me the way this is going to land where Donovan Mitchell signs this 2 plus1 extension it’s the right extension for him to sign because in a couple years as Adrien laid out he will then be eligible for the 35% Max where he’s making almost $400 million which is a ton of money and it then gives him the optionality if he doesn’t really like the way things are going over the next couple years in Cleveland he can maybe say hey maybe we do something different down the road as opposed to locking in for four or five years so makes sense on all sides two things there are two things that you have to know about this and that’s it one is the second biggest contract signing in the history of the Cavs franchise after LeBron returning in 2014 that speaks to how important and how how the high stakes this was because of what they traded for him the second thing is you can put whatever you want on the bottom screen you can qualify it this is a two-year contract he has two the Cavs now have two years to do it because he would face being going into the last year of his deal in two years so even getting two years is terrific for the Cavs especially with where they’re positioned so the Cavs should absolutely celebrate this and absolutely keep their nose to the grindstone [Music]
Adrian Wojnarowski joins Get Up to report on All-Star G Donovan Mitchell committing to a 3-year/$150.3 million maximum contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers despite the Cavs moving on from head coach J.B. Bickerstaff with the hiring of Kenny Atkinson.

Spyda will continue to spend his athletic prime on teams that will not win anything. Its a shame because i believe DMitch could be a champion.
One man team!
As a Cavs fan, I hope he doesn't demand a trade in a few years
Are we sure he is worth 50m / year?
These players earning a GDP of a third world country
Finally! Great! We got Mitchell back , we gotta get another veteran PG behind garland like Kyle Lowry
He the reason the coach fired. It’s now his team!
Is garland Staying?
They may have a good coach and a decent team, but man good luck with the Celtics, 76ers, and Knicks
Who was saying Mitchell was going to NY? The people from NY and ESPN…stop the bs 😂
Everyone with strong opinions about the Cavs in both directions are spewing nonsense. The story of this team is uncertainty, nuance and maybes.
"Donovan wont resign!" He resigned but on a short term deal.
"Garland is a bad fit and wants out!" Darius had a really good year before this season and started the year with a major injury and losing 12 pounds he never got back. Can't trust the he wants out rumors. No reputable source on those and could just be smoke.
"Cavs are gonna make no moves the GM said so!" And yet lots of rumors of interest in players. Could be posturing to keep the price on their players high who knows.
"Cavs are fine! It was just injuries run it back" The criticisms have some merit. Change is needed. Maybe just the coach but maybe more.
Anything could happen. Be patient guys.
The money these players get now geeze but well deserved
Even when stars want to be Knicks, we still can't get them. It's a shame
Bontemps is a clown for saying, "This was always to me the way it was going to land" when just a month ago he said Donovan had played his last game for Cleveland. Get fucked.
5 year 380 million is just insane
Laker fans trying to offer a bag of chips and a soda with the garbage players in trades on social media for Donovan Mitchell quickly learning that they're going to be subpar again this up coming season 😂😂😂
Wendi wraped it up in 5 secends. The 2 at the table needed to STFU.
Trade Garland and Mobley for KD
He can get 5 years 380 million on his next contract? 76 million a year. These long term contracts go up like 25 million every year. 315 for tatum. 340 next year for the next guy. 365 the year after, and ao on. Must be nice.
that was dumb. Cavs not getting another ring for a cool minute
i love it!!! LAKERS STILL GOT AN EGG with all the big time free agents 🤣🤣🤣 whats up LeGM? no one wants to play with you 🤣🤣🤣
Go Cavs🏆
Mitchell is one of my favorite players, but the dude is always hurt in the playoffs. Happened with the Jazz and now it's happening with the Cavs.
Darius Garland … pack your bags.
Its gotten so sad that these analysts can't admit they were wrong on takes, even Windy with his half hearted congrats and his :it's not for 3 years it's for 2 " can't admit he was wring when he said he wasn't happy in Cleveland even though Donovan came out and said that he was. He called him a liar in certain terms. We're getting too much of analysts personal feelings in their feedbacks. They trash talk players and when a player dares to fire back comments they get upset and declare that it's war on analysts, not everyone wants to go to LA or New York. Just like they were hyper about LeBron called klay but was quiet when Dallas got him. They look like idiots in this and trying their best to temper their wrong takes.
CLEVELAND‼️‼️‼️‼️
Congratulations cleveland, you’ll be the 6 seed next year!
cavs are a few pieces away from contending for a title. Cavs need to make some more moves don’t stop at this resigning.
Stephen A Smith is on suicide watch.
🫤
380 million dollars where are the coming up with these video game numbers lmfao thats complete madness lmfao 🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
3 years is "fairly long" now what the eff?
LeBron should've ended his career in Cleveland
Boston is still top dog but Knicks, 76ers, Cavs, Pacers, Bucks all looks tough as well… but still think Boston would come out again tbh.
NBA made it hard for players to turn down the money their current trash team can offer them to go win somewhere else.
Where else was he going to?
Labron coming home?
No one cares about Donavan Mitchell anymore since Jalen Brunson crushed it with the Knicks
$51 mill for what Cleveland is going no where
L
Happy seeing Spyda staying in Cleveland
Big mistake should have signed with the mavs
Tim bontemps was saying how he was leaving for sure. Now on this show hes saying how he was staying the entire time… Hypocrite clown
Id like a garland for brandon ingram trade personally. Both garland and ingram are injury prone but id take ingram for the size and defnse and move donovan to pg where he should be playing. Craig porter jr is a great backup.
This is how trash the media is- they were the only ones feeding us the narrative of Mitchell wanting to be in NY (besides New Yorkers). He’s only said how happy he is in Cleveland. Now they still want to keep Cleveland on the clock before he potentially leaves. They NEVER do this with any other franchise. Extremely lazy speculation reporting.
Tatum and Mitchell got paid
Klay hot played
Remember when y’all said Donovan had eyes for NY? 😂
Bickerstaff was trash. Cavs can make some noise now.
They have to unlock garland. He was told to sit in the corner all season and people were shocked that he was flat during the playoffs and on top of him being hurt. And they cut his minutes.
