Cam Talbot Joins the Detroit Red Wings
yeah hi Cam uh just what are your thoughts on on joining the Detroit redlings uh excitement obviously um they’ve got a good uh young exciting group you know they’re this close to making the the playoffs last year so um it’s going to be a fun group to be a part of I’m looking forward to to getting down there and and joining the team what uh I don’t know if you’ve had a conversation with Steve or or Dereck or anybody I mean what what do you see your role coming in as because they all already obviously have two guys on the roster two goalies on the roster yeah none of that has been defined to me as of yet those conversations haven’t taken place obviously just signed yesterday a lot of excitement um you know just um people reaching out but nothing uh nothing’s been defined yet and I’m sure there’ll be a good healthy competition come come training camp time and um you know that in internal competition always makes everybody better so I think that uh bringing in the guys that they brought in uh just you know drives everybody that much more and that’s a good thing for everybody do you still very much feel like uh I mean you want to compete for um for as many games as you can that that uh to take take the big biggest role that you can that you can get absolutely that’s you know one of the reasons why I uh I kind of chose to sign here you know there’s there’s going to be a competition no matter what between the three or four of us um but I you know you know I feel healthy and and good even at my age so uh I played 54 games last year um you know made an All-Star appearance so I still feel like I got a lot left to give so um that’s one of the biggest reasons why I wanted a a two-year deal to come in and and uh try to help the team win and uh to come in and still compete for starts so that was a big uh big factor for me coming in lastly just having played for a variety of teams I mean is it is there a comfort level with coming to a new place and and right away you know knowing how to make yourself feel more at home uh kind of just having done it a number of times in your career yeah that’s a nice way of putting it um uh but yeah you never really fully get used to it especially with a young family now um so you know taking the kids out of schools and moving them all the time and having them leave their friends that’s that’s the hardest part for me it’s easy hockey team you can kind of plug and play um guys always integrate you into the team but it’s uh it’s the family factor at this point which again for me getting the the second year on this deal was huge and and hopefully not having to uproot them again next summer so um for me at my age you have to start thinking about that and and what’s best for my family as well so um it has been you know bit of a rollwind uh moving from Team to team lately my kids have been Troopers but uh hopefully found a a spot for a couple years here and and we’ll be able to to kind of settle down a little bit thank you so much yeah answer sir yeah hi Cam uh can you just assess your season last year how do you feel you played How It Go for you yeah again I I thought I played pretty well again I think it was kind of the the same situation I’m coming into now you know they had a guy there and uh that had played a bunch the year before um then they signed myself and and David rck and it was just kind of a a healthy competition to start the season and um you know I thought that I I started the season really strong um obviously got got the All-Star nod there at the beginning of January uh had a little dip as did the rest of the team there at the you know Midway through January to beginning of February but um you know I think I finished strong again so um overall I’d say that my my season went as well as I expected to go um and you know I just wanted to go in there and after down here in Ottawa proved that I could still be the guy and I thought I was able to do that uh I don’t know how much she played against Red Wings being in the west there but just what uh what are your thoughts on uh on the team uh last year and just uh what you’re coming into as far as what kind of team this is yeah obviously didn’t get a chance to play him that much last year I think I started one game against the wings um but from what I remember they’re a fast team up front very skilled the back end gets pucks to the net pretty well well um you know they were they gave us a lot to handle and I’m pretty sure they beat us when we came to Detroit and I didn’t play so well that game so um you know I just remember them coming out of some waves and they were um very exciting very skilled and talented up front and again the back end kind of helped Drive the drive the offense from what I remember so um not you know not a you know didn’t play them a lot but that’s just what I remember for my time against them thanks cam yep T go ahead hey K welcome to Detroit hey so what’s I mean you’ve been through it before but what’s July first like for for a player and especially for a golender sounds like it was going to be a tight Market there yesterday is it kind of nerve-wracking or what’s it like very nerve-wracking yeah I seem to be a part of it every summer and you never really get used to it I’ll tell you that much um you know especially like I said with kids and family now there’s a lot more to think about and um situations term length all that kind of stuff um Detroit kind of checked a lot of the boxes for me number one with um the second year uh two my wife actually grew up there until she’s about 14 or 15 years old so she’s got some family in the area which we’ve never had on any of the teams I’ve been a part of so it’ be kind of nice to be part of like close to family and um my family is only like 4H hour drive away so um all these things kind of fact in but you know you kind of have to weigh all your options and um I was fortunate I had a few of them and uh especially with like you said the the amount of goalies that are on the market every summer everyone’s buying for the same position so it gets really competitive out there and um again just it all seem to work out and uh we couldn’t be happier were you surprised they called um a little bit yeah you never really know how they’re going to um go about situations right I mean they had um Billy and Alex played really well down the stretch last year so um you never know what teams are going to be open to to signing the goalie so teams you know there’s a lot of movement before the uh July 1 and you kind of heard that there was going to be some more movement so you’re never really sure who’s going to come calling but again when they did this just kind of seemed like the right fit sounds good thanks for this cam yeah thank you Max hey cam I know you mentioned a few of the factors that determine the family but you also pointed out how close Detroit came to the playoffs last year and I’m curious what role if any did that play and and you won to come here uh it did play uh pretty big role there’s some other teams that um you know were in the mix that maybe weren’t as close um to to making the playoffs and I’m at the stage of my career where I’m not you know ready to just mail it in yet I don’t want to just give up starts I still want to compete for starts I still want to compete for the playoffs and I still want to win a Stanley Cup I’ve never done that yet so um all these things kind of play into that um decision and you know the fact that they were that close last year and uh you know they really wanted they really want to push for that again and they made that clear so um that was a huge factor for me as well and then having a multi-year deal you’ll probably at some point get to work with a couple of their younger goalies that have come up like I’m just curious how how you’ve enjoyed that I’m sure being a veteran you’ve done that before too how do you kind of enjoy that relationship ship with up and cominging goalies I really enjoy it I think that’s a huge part of the game now obviously when I was coming in the league I had you know Henrik lennquist and Marty Bon were on the team in New York when I was there um coming to training camps and stuff like that so I saw firsthand uh what it took and what it was like to be an NHL every single day um so I just kind of you know you take that and then you molded into your game when you’re in the minors and then when you make it um that’s when the work really starts and you realize watching the future Hall of Famer like I was able to do um you take take it all in and and uh you just try to um you know almost be like a sponge and just absorb things that you see him doing and and mold it into your game or mold it into your office routines and stuff like that so um for me to to get to this point in my career and hopefully be able to help young guys like I always helped out um you know it’s it’ll be nice to to give that experience back for sure thanks so much welcome to Detroit thank you next question will be MSY and then last question will be Bob du hey cam as you’ve gone through the league how have you kind of navigated and experience that competition between other go tenders while also maintaining you know a professional relationship and friendship with them as you kind of you know work your way through and sharing the crease yeah I think again that internal competition like I mentioned before is just good for everyone it’s good for the [Music] goenda confidence to both the guys that are in there and And when they see us battling hard for for that spot then you know they’re going to want to play that much harder for us in front of us as well so that’s the first thing for me secondly it’s everyone knows hockey is such a team environment and when the teams do well that’s what matters most whether you’re in the net or you’re not so to have that relationship that good rapport with your goalie partner again I think is huge you don’t want any kind of animosity in the dressing room and that’s never been part of me and I’ve been very fortunate to have a lot of good goalie partners that uh feel the same way so um you just kind of come in you know you know it’s going to be a competition but at the same time um the the team always comes first and that’s you know how myself and my goalie Partners have always kind of approached things so I’m looking forward to working with vly and Alex and and Jack and whoever else is going to be in the mix thank you welcome to Detroit thanks all right last question is Boba and you talk about you know moving to new teams Cam and on the surface of goalie’s job is the same no matter where they go stop the puck but what what are kind of some of the nuances when you move to a new team that a goalie has to kind of figure out to fit in I mean the systems obviously uh the biggest part um penalty kill I feel like is uh probably highest on the on the list for goenda plays is it a diamond is it a you know more of a wash machine like uh like Edmonton was playing there in the playoffs where it’s just all out pressure um you know just kind of figuring out the new systems and knowing where the threats are going to be knowing how the d man plays the post as he play back post strong side post knowing what threats again that I’m going to have to worry about what is going to be taken away so the biggest part um coming into a new team is is learning how the systems work and learning how the players like to play certain situations um and again just try to read off them the best I can I usually come to Camp about or come to the city a good three to four weeks before Camp to try to skate with the guys as much as possible get to know them as much as I can and uh figure out certain Tendencies uh that the team is the team has and that I can kind of work my way into before Camp even starts so um that’s usually the biggest thing for us because like you said you number one stop the puck but um you have to have the right information to to do that and I like to get there early and try to figure that out as best I can thanks very much yeah all right thanks Cam and thanks everyone for joining us uh appreciate it

Lemmy Killmeister aka LegArms lol love it!! π π
You will never ever regret joining the Dππ₯
Some of these questions felt really surface level and boring, but I'm glad to hear he feels like he and his family will get to settle in a bit more. He's worked hard for this career, so it'd be nice for him to find a spot to settle and be happy.
Welcome aboard Cam !!!
Lyons has another year at $950k I think, and he was solid last season. Got to believe Husso is going somewhere….
Welcome Cam. Looking forward to your veterans presents and helping us get better
I do like Reimer but he was stressful to watch at times. I think Cam will be an upgrade. Happy about this one
I wasnβt a fan until I heard him handle these questions
Ok so letβs trade husso for something, we need to get someone at forward since we didnβt sign anyone in free agency
Best player to ever play in alaBama
Helen with the hard hitters
Only Elaine would think to ask a goalie what his role will be.
Welcome to THE-D Cam!!!
Helene is the female equivalent of Art Regner. π
Congrats Cam good luck
How many goalies do yall need
Can we stop letting Helene ask questions, please? Way to set the horrific tone. Some of us actually like the people who play for Detroit sports teams. Get your head out of your a$$.
Dont give him Helene to deal with right off the bat…
R u from Caledonia Cam
CAM !! I LIKE U so much!!! ππππ
Helene asks the absolute worst questions all the time.
Welcome to Detroit, Camπ! Hope you and your family get happily settled in, during the coming weeks and months.
Really pleased with this signing by Steve Y, and hope that Cam goes on to have a great couple of seasons with the Red Wings, between the pipesπ₯ π―π!!
Helene so bad.
This guy sounds down to win, a great attitude and work ethic too. We're happy to have you.
Helene is atrocious at asking questions. I feel like im having a stroke listening to her
Hahaha what a joke
