2024 NHL Draft – Jett Luchanko (13th overall – Philadelphia Flyers)

jet how does it feel to be selected by the Philadelphia fers oh it’s it’s unbelievable it’s it’s a great organization and and uh you know I wouldn’t want to be selected anywhere else it’s just it’s just an honor uh talking through the emotions when you heard your name called inside that space yeah it was it was crazy especially you know my family beside me and and having uh Michael Buffer do all that that was that was an unbelievable experience and I’ll I’ll never forget that speed’s obviously a huge asset in your game how important is that for you and how you create offense out there yeah I think it’s it’s probably my strongest asset and something that you know I’ve always worked on and always kind of had to my advantage so I think it’s definitely one of the biggest things I used to kind of create space for myself and and my teammates did C You by surprise at all or did you you know did you have your meetings with them leading up to today you think that this might be a possibility yeah we had we had good talks coming in so I I I had a feeling they were interested I had I didn’t know coming in if they’re going to take me or not but obviously you know they made some trades there too and and so I was it was a surprise at the end the day and it was really cool the fans of Philadelphia maybe don’t know your game outside of the speed how would yoube I think I’m just someone who kind of brings it every night and I think you know consistency is one of the biggest things for me I think you know I’m never going to take a day off and I think my biggest strength would be my speed in my uh in my hockey IQ there any particular uh NHL players that you compare your game to or try to bold your game at yeah I like Nick Suzuki I think you know he grew up in London as well and and I think you know he’s he played on the Storm as well so he’s someone I’ve always watched really close and someone who has a lot of detail to his game and does a lot of things right so I’ve I’ve always liked to watch him everybody well me develop getting yeah they’re it’s incredible great spot to uh to play play Junior two of the best years my life so I think uh you know they mean a lot and I want to thank everybody there I think you know they’ve they’ve done a lot for me and and I’m excited to uh to see what they got in the future J you’re a guy who um kind of over the last few months it seemed like was rising up dra boards did you get the sense that your game was kind of coming together as the season progress going into the under 18s to uh I think you know I just try to stay consistent the whole year and I think that’s that’s just something that I I pride myself in something that I learned how to do a lot over this year so I think you know as I obviously the the u18 was a really good experience and great way to to capop off the season as well so I think yeah I just I was just trying to kind of stay consistent with everything and you’re talk with the fers did they say anything about one thing that LE game or like overall uh no they they never really said said much about one specific thing I think they they kind of just liked my game and and I’m glad they did did you talk about your physical strength you were able to show that off a bit in com yeah I’ve I’ve always taken kind of my my workouts gym routines very seriously throughout the years and so I think you know just I’ve always naturally kind of been been a little bit stronger but I think you know I’ve put a lot of work and time into that and so I think that’s just that’s kind of what it comes from do you figure you’ll be able to attend development Camp next year pardon like do do you feel like you’ll be able to attend development Camp next week yeah yeah I’ll be yeah for sure have you ever been to Philadelphia before know anything about uh no I haven’t but I’ve I’ve been I’ve been I’ve driven through it and CU my my cousins are from kenet Square probably just 20 30 minutes away so they’re they’re all here today they’re going to be pumped so I mean shout out to them but it’s it’s yeah I’ve been there and I’m sure they’re going to be pumped and I’m really excited are a little bit team that rebuilding standpoint they have lot of good young Talent know any of that young talent that they have right now and how to play with yeah I’ve I’ve played against Denver Barky and all Bon last year on London and I’ve watched them as well because I’m from London so I think you know those are guys who who have who are really good and and you know I’ve had a tough time playing against so it’s going to be cool to to kind of be on the same I used wear in the same Jersey as them hopefully one day is there anybody on the Philadelphia Flyers currently that you kind of look up to want to model your game around yeah Travis conect me for sure he’s from from similar area to where I’m from and you know he played on a a minor team that I’ve always played against so I’ve seen his name on the wall everywhere and and I think he’s someone who I think I play a similar game to as well and I’ve always I’ve always followed his game closely and I think you know I do like to watch him as well you like to get on people a little a little bit I I try not to to get involved a lot but I like to play you know a hard hard game and and really you know just try and win every Puck and you know try and be tough to play against do you yourself as a center or you know are you a little versatile play win a little bit too or or would you like to you know is it important for you to to remain as a center there as the years go by I’ve played both throughout my my entire career so I think I’m I’m comfortable with both and you know wherever the team wants me to play I’m happy to play there D how’s the whole draft experience been for you yeah it’s been crazy I’ve never been here before and it’s just it’s kind of overwhelming all the the buildings the lights the people and everything so it’s been a really cool experience been treated very well and and obviously the sphar was was insane as well so I think you know it’s been a very cool experience mentioned your family who else do you think of on a day like today just everyone I think you know starts with my immediate family and and definitely them I wouldn’t be able to be here without them and then you know just coaches and teammates at the same time I think you know same thing wouldn’t be able to be here without their support their help and their guidance and and kind of just everyone else who is involved behind the scenes I think there’s there’s so many people who I can thank and I wouldn’t be here with how important is the defensive part of your game and just being a two-way player on the I yeah I think I just kind of I like to to try and take pride in playing the best I can with every shift every second I’m on the ice so I think it’s definitely something I like to take pride in and try and kind of be responsible player now that youed next AER I think for me I’m I’m not really too focused on you know looking too far ahead I think just kind of try and stay in the present day-to-day work my hardest every day and I think good things just come from that

  1. Kid will be a great player. Lots of the media and the fanbase need to stop looking at the “big names” and learn hockey. He’s a center and should be a great transition to an NHL center. Good pick at 13. Fills a huge need.

  2. “Stay in the present” “Work as hard as I can every second of every shift”

The kid is 17?! Watch out….this is gonna be the pick everyone in Philly laughed at, that turns out to be a star.

  3. I like the pick. This kid seems to have focus, is strong, plays a really fast game, and can pass very well. There's a reason he rose a lot leading up to the draft.

  4. The wife asked, how old is he?" My response: "Based on his demeanor, umm 40?!?" Hockey IQ, speed (better be fast with a name like Jett) consistency. Talks as calmly as a cup winning captain. (most sportsman like player award on his resume). I see why the Flyers had zero issue taking him earlier than most teams expected, and also how many other teams cringed when his name was called. Love it!
