Why Is The St. Louis Blues’ Home Opener In The Afternoon?

happy 4th of July St Louis a lot to talk about today um Doug Armstrong talked about B navage his extension and why are we playing a game in the afternoon for home opener a lot to get into today on lock on Blues you’re locked on Blues your daily podcast on the St Louis Blues part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day hello hello hello and as I said a happy 4th of July today on July 4th it is a Thursday I have a lot to talk about you today so B naich had an extension as we know more thoughts on that one off the market what does that exactly mean well a player that I kind of wanted to come back to St Louis is officially off the market and our schedule why are we having our home opener in the middle of the afternoon it makes no sense to me but I definitely want to talk about it but before I dive into anything deeper St Louis I just want to let you know that today’s episode is brought to you by Game Time download the game time app create an account and use code locked on NHL for $20 off your first purchase terms apply I hope everybody is having a great day today I know I am too and I’m going to dive right into some more thoughts on this B naich extension one thing about pel navage is is that I do know that he is a player that’s going to be here for quite a while I know that he has a lot of skills and that he’s a lot that he can bring and yesterday during Doug um Armstrong’s pressor he did mention that you know part of when you give players these big extensions is to maximize you know their ability and their skills do I think six years is a lot I do I personally would have gone with four years but again it’s a 48 million total with 8 million aav which isn’t awful um the one thing that Doug Armstrong said I’m going to read you a quote from Doug Armstrong is he bich loves St Louis and I find what’s happening the NHL today is when you find people who want to be in your environment you keep them personally I like that I think that you know B has made it very clear that he has wanted to be here and Doug talked about you know the negotiations back and forth and how basically he would have done five years six-year contract as we know now and uh he was the one that nudged so he was the one that was like you know what he wants a longer I’ll do that it’s fine Doug also talked about the fact that the cap you know it goes up every year seemingly since covid so in his mind he’s like this is a steal if the cap goes up again um essentially we’re getting B navage for a really good cost so I think that Doug overall just seemed really positive about this and to me that is a really good thing um Doug Armstrong also went on to say we had talked probably the week prior to the draft neither side was going to budge we talked again on the first and did the deal in the second I’ll be honest with you I budged so that’s the exact quote that he um said so I think that you know at the end of the day Doug was very transparent about it and he was very transparent about wanting to have bvic um I really do like this deal I do I don’t think you’re asking you know know an arm and a leg for B navage I mean 48 million total seems like a big number when you break it down 8 million for first you know line type of guy a guy that’s going to always produce isn’t a bad thing I think that you know if you gave let’s go say 48 million to I don’t even know who else he would give it to on the steam without people going crazy like if you gave did the same deal happen with brayen Shen if he didn’t have his deal that he already has yeah I could be like okay what are we doing here but pavich again 29 years old the deal is not going to activate until he’s 30 so he’ll be you know here for six years hopefully playing some great hockey and hopefully helping the blues get a cup another cup now that we’re saing Cup champions uh once and for all but I do like the deal now there is a comment from groovy I am Live on YouTube right now saying are you happy with the blues this draft and I am I think the one thing that the St Louis Blues did in this draft was that they did get what they needed I think that you know going for a defenseman and add your check they gave him a threeyear ELC already um was a smart smart move um I think that you know you had to go defense you had to there was no way that the S Lis Blues could have gone into this draft without you know really focusing on defense um in round two um so obviously they picked you know my boy Adam Ur I had a great one want interview with him and round two they picked Ryan I mean Colin Ralph who was a defenseman and you know 48th overall not bad um I do like him a lot big body 64 216 pounds only 17 years old uh he had 66 points in 57 games by the way which is another thing that is just phenomenal and he will be going to St Cloud St Cloud State universary University next season so happy about that then on the second round they also picked Lucas fiser who is a defenseman from the ol I lik Lucas a lot this was a guy that I talked to you about here on lock down Blues 63 um honestly their TR defenseman that the blues selected in the draft they went defense heavy um so I like that a lot and uh fiser father actually played six years in the NHL for the Red Wings and was on a championship winning team in 200 too so I like that he comes from a hockey family you know finally in round three with pick 81 overall they did go with a left Winger and they went with Andre K who is uh from Finland actually so I love that we have some finnished guys on the team great hockey IQ again big guy 63 and he really knows how to utilize his Heights now I will say this he entered the draft number 26 amongst International skaters by NHL Central scouting so to me that’s a really positive sign another guy who I talked about on this podcast here on lock down Blues is another round three pick at 95 overall and this is Adam uh jedo who is a center from the WHL and this was actually the rangers’ pick that we got by the way so we were’re able to take their pick um obviously when we made some moves but um he had 23 goals 24 assists 47 points and 54 games with the Oil Kings this season and it was the same WHL Club as my boy Jakey neighbors you already know uh so I am really excited too about him because he also was for um a cze checks um UA World Juniors where he literally became friends with her as I said Andrea call so another run of draft pick so I do like that a lot round four pick 113 listen we just love the WHL because we picked Thomas um MC and he is a center right winger obviously WHL and you know you can still find great talent in the fourth round he had 62 points um in 63 games for the Medicine Hat last season and uh I think that that he was a steal because he did enter the draft ranking 64 against North American skaters so I do like that a lot and round five we also have some guys that weren’t there but we have um milliam who is a defenseman from the WHL as I said big WHL team here uh so Western Hockey League baby that’s what’s up but he is from the Spokane Chiefs and he’s a great blue liner and 64 and has a lot of physicality uh so again this Vancouver native is g to bring some heat and then we go to round seven and in round seven we have Anton Dorene who is a center um from qm jhl and uh I do think that this guy is going to have a little bit of a more difficult time being drafted in the 7th but it’s the same H former Club as Zach buuk and uh his father actually up here was the general manager of the Ottawa Senators for seven years so not bad and then for our seventh round pick 2011 we finished with mat Matt V Matt V yeah Matt they um Cy um who was a center from Russia and 62 uh you know 38 points 51 games for St Petersburg MHL so we had a lot of defensive guys obviously so happy with the draft listen some of these names can be a little bit difficult but happy with how we did in the draft overall we really did take that Focus onto the defense which was most important for the blues and I do think you know at the end of the day we had a ired a lot of draft picks you know obv got the Toronto one in exchange for Rhino Riley um we got the New York Rangers and exchange for Vladimir tereno uh we got the one from Philadelphia for Kevin Hayes and then obviously we got the one from the Islanders from Robert peruso so lots of draft picks that we had in this draft obviously next year’s draft will have a good amount as well uh but overall I am really happy with the draft and I’m really happy with paval nv’s uh extension so for me that was a really good thing and before I continue on I just want you to hear from Adam e By the way in my exclusive one-onone interview that I had with him at the NHL draft and his thoughts on becoming a St Louis blue so can you describe to me what it feels like to be a St Louis blue yeah it was Prett amazing I really happy to be to be in this organization and yeah I before before I I’ve had a couple meetings with the guys and I really like this organization happy to be down and obviously today is your birthday so talk me through that when your name was called today what was that feeling like for you yeah I really don’t Cate my my birthday today because yeah I was left but it’s crazy to to be drafted in my birday yeah go it’s pretty amazing feeling and enjoy it and can you tell me what your strongest skill sets are defensively that fans can look forward to seeing yeah I think I’m to I would say I’m twoway twoway defenseman so I can play the both side and be uh be like I can help up in both sides my team and yeah I’m pretty aggressive player so I I when I when I play I put 100% of of me to to gain a v so yeah so obviously as you’re heard he was very excited about becoming a St Louis blue and had nothing but positive things to say about um now joining the team and being able to wear the blue note and drafting is very overwhelming um so I’m just really happy for him today anyways before I dive into anything deeper about some guys that are off the market which I know I am like really upset about this one too I just want to talk to my friends over at game time game time is the authorized ticket marketing place of the Major League Baseball which makes getting tickets faster and easier prices on the game time app actually go down the closer it gets to a game so this is what you need to do you need to find a game that you want to go to so for me I always like to go to these games last minute um so you pick out the game you find your receipts you can get any seat for the lowest price guarantee with game time and another cool thing about game time too is that can actually see where you’re sitting so you can see the view from your seat um like in the app it is super cool so take the guess we got to buying tickets especially buying MLB tickets so let’s go for the Cardinals uh with game time down the game time app create an account and use code locked on NHL for $20 off your first purchase terms apply again create an account and redeem code locked on NHL l c k e d o n NHL for $20 off Game Time download the game time app today last minute tickets lowest price guaranteed so it is free agency time and there might have been a guy that I was kind of hoping for um that might have said hey let me even I wanted to trade from St Louis let me you know let me come back well that’s not going to happen now is it no because the Red Wings sign two time Cup winner Vladimir ter Sano to a 2year deal uh so this is worth uh two years 4.75 million annually for these two years so looking closer to nine um Millie which is insane and uh yeah like I have to tell you it is kind of crazy um you also have um Dave Pon um did he sound through Red Wings too D pan wait hold on am I finding breaking news now I’m getting wait Haley’s about to lose her mind no he’s he’s de with Ottawa it’s okay he’s with Ottawa but yeah no he’s with Ottawa but yeah vlat is off the market now I thought in my demented head hey maybe just maybe because you know he hasn’t signed with anybody yet I was like it’s been a couple days maybe for the right price maybe if it was a one year twoe the blues would give him something not 4.75 million I feel like that’s a lot of money um my cat feels a little neglected but that’s a lot of money right Stella right I don’t think Veno no disres to him I mean get that bag I don’t think he’s worth that much money to me that seems insane like he’s 32 he’s still a good player he’s not how he used to be so for that much money it just seems a little bit of a waste um again no disrespect on him like good for him that a team wanted him and wants to give him that money I think that’s um an incredible thing especially after three days of free agency I thought no other team really had interest in him besides the Penguins so if you’re able to get that much money honestly good for you like that’s a good freeze situation for Vladimir tereno personally do I think that the blue um will regret not having him no I think St Louis will be fine St Louis is one of those teams I told you about the couple guys that we signed already um I have a whole episode on another one of our guys that we just signed so I’m not going to really talk about it in detail because that’s going come out today just some issues downloading it to my computer and I did a crossover with it to but the point I am trying to make is you can’t be stupid with the money I know that we do have money I think we still have 8 mil left to give out but again you can’t be stupid and waste it on a player that’s not going to perform the way that you want them to the St Louis Blues are trying to get faster they’re trying to get younger they’re trying to get to be a better overall team and I’m not saying that Vladimir tereno wouldn’t you know help them do so I mean he’s one of my favorite players so it’s difficult for me to say oh yeah this guy can play Puck he definitely can play Puck he is definitely a good hockey player I just personally think that the blues are making their the right decision by not signing guys just because they used to play here and just because they want to cup with us here I think that we have a tendency sometimes as fans to look at Players better than they actually are because of what they did for this organization you might look at a guy Le vom your Terry senko and you might think this is one of the best guys who ever wear in the blue note when that’s actually not true now as I said he’s one of my favorite players so personally would have I been happy if he was here absolutely like I wanted the Panthers to win because of latty but I’m also not going to jeopardize our teams’s future by saying oh yeah sign him when you can be smarter with your money save the money and invest it into somebody else that’s worth um big contract now on the flip side for one year he was like asking for like a million or 1.5 for a year I would say let’s do it that’s not too much money um one year isn’t bad but I think 475 it was something crazy like that’s just too much money like the reality is like you’re really giving this guy like 9 million for two years which seems at least for me a little crazy it makes uh it makes you question things and I know you’re going to hear oh well he’s only a couple years older than you know uh pav bich but B naich is a different player and you cannot compare the two guys what bich does on the ice is just so much different okay so please say that this with an understanding that you can’t compare those two players um B still has a lot of um of his prime hockey left and that’s just the kind of player he is he’s going to perform for quite a while so no there is no comparing those two players my cat by the way whenever I talk about the blues she gets so excited she’s like mom I want to hear about the blues and if you’re like my cat and you want to hear about the blues make sure to subscribe to lockdown Blues where you can get all of your Blues you know Insight information discussion onto this channel um talking about the blues is like the favorite part of my day so there’s something better than talking about the St Louis Blues because as I said I am a Die Hard fan and with Die Hard fans uh that’s all you want to talk about even in uh July 4th you know I woke up I’m like USA and also let’s talk some blues but let’s talk about something that’s kind of like bothering me but I didn’t get to the blues had their schedule release and you might be thinking hail this is like so exciting this is like the most exciting thing ever um why are we playing hockey at 1:30 why are we playing hockey on 130 against the Seattle Kraken we’re literally playing hockey in the middle of the afternoon on October 24th know I I’m like oh we’re the first game of the ANL season like that’s so cool and then another part of me is like why are we playing in the middle of the afternoon on H what day of the week is that October 8th what day is that that seems early I have to go to day cuz I’m like 1:30 I saw that uh October 88th 2024 day watch should I feel like a Thursday it’s a Tuesday we’re playing in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday on a random Tuesday on a Tuesday I thought the schedule last year was bad that’s so disrespectful they literally said yeah we’re going to put you against the Kraken and nobody cares about the Kraken on a random Tuesday at 1:30 in the afternoon why um this is stupid this is actually really stupid oh my God they really did put us like in the middle of the afternoon that’s crazy that is actually Insanity schedule goes crazy um so we have that um and then a couple days later we play the Sharks and S Jose so uh that should be interesting and then we play the golden knights on the 11th and then finally we come home on the 15th um at 6:30 to play the Wild but they really have us playing at 1:30 in the afternoon on a Tuesday on a Tuesday that that’s crazy to me like I’m sorry I’m not trying to be like a negative person but that’s actually like insanity to me that you have us playing like that on a Tuesday on a Tuesday is anybody else like a little disrespected by the schedule do you feel like oh this is like not it personally I’m confused why do you have us playing at 1:30 on a Tuesday like most people work I mean I guess we can take off work to like watch the Blues play at 1:30 on a Tuesday on October 8th but what’s my excuse going to be the NHL came out with an awful schedule yet again please let us watch our season opener because this is the only thing in life I look forward to on a Tuesday it’s not even like it’s a Friday I don’t know I I know that they want to do like oh we have hockey all day don’t disrespect the blues like I’m sorry but I’m so sick of being disrespected I know October 22nd is like the Frozen Frenzy and they have us at 7: p.m. PM so at least I don’t have a like at a crazy time then that’s when all three of you two teams play 8:30 on a Tuesday just seems crazy to me that’s an I mean not 1:30 on a Tuesday like now I’m all upset that’s an awful season opener time by the way like that’s like one of the worst times and it’s against the crack and it’s not like anyone actually cares so yay hockey woohoo schedule makers let’s go that’s how you do it baby um now with all things being said done um a lot of good things to talk about so I will talk to you tomorrow and like always how I end every single episode let’s go Blues

  1. Who cares about a late afternoon games….just means people can go to bed at a decent time if they work! Draft sucked mostly! Extension for Buch was to long but not terrible and to much but again not bad like some of these others! We will see how it ages! I like Brothers we picked up and Faska for depth pieces.

  2. blose wont draft in the top 5 not even one year or will the shillman pay more than 8 mil for a star player like a true 1 D .. stl got lucky with the sale of the team and got to draft a 1D 4th OA … it just sucks supporting a team that is truly not trying to win but participate and sell 15 dollar beers and jerseys

  3. Hey Haley. There was no way Tarasenko was coming back to the Blues. Did we all forget why he left in the first place? He had an injury and the team doctors botched his recovery. It was so bad that he requested a trade over it. He wanted out. If the team doctors changed by now then maybe, but I highly doubt that happened. People need to realize that he is done with STL. Unless a major change within the organization happens that is.
