here every single day and you can be in every day or two all you got to do is join us every single day all right we’re gonna paint a picture for the 2024 training camp and what it means for the season from a competition perspective little things that you might not realize that act absolutely mean a lot and can sometimes be the things that make a team turn a corner especially late in those close CL games and you start winning enough of those and then you go from a nine- win season to an 11 or 12 win season we’ll talk about that fights we need everyone wants everybody to play Kumbaya all the time in the second segment we’ll say nonsense to that we want to see people fighting now we don’t want to see people fighting like thugs and we don’t want to see people doing things that are going to result in them creating habits that get a lot of personal files we saw that in the past right like 2020 2021 we don’t need to see that but what we do need to see are people that are doing everything they can to lift this franchise and and make the team first and then lift the franchise up and worry about friendship later we need to see that but first the camp battles that we expect we’re g to go by some positions and uh even some individual people within those position groups or just an individual or two that might be outside of the position groups uh that uh we think the battles are going to be the most intense but we still need to see everybody trying to make the team so if you saw the thumbnail or if you saw any U anything that supports what you’re hearing here you saw the linebacker group up and um it’s fitting for me because I think that even though we know who the starters are and and I got to preface that by saying this just because I want to see Camp Batts at a position that doesn’t mean that I don’t know who the starters are or think who I believe the Jaguars are going to make starters it just means that the people in the group if they’re going to keep five linebackers and we know the first two are then we need to see those next three trying to figure it out we need to see those next five trying to figure out who the next three are going to be same thing goes for offensive line same thing goes for wide receivers most teams around the league and the Jaguars aren’t any different they know who their starters are going to be they they they got they got a general idea when they built their roster and they use certain funds to allocate at certain positions they’d be disappointed at this point is somebody they paid a lot of money or draft it very very high uh wasn’t at least uh contending to be a starter or pushing to be a starter it would be a pleasant surprise for them to have someone pop up that’s like an Antonio Johnson was last year even though he didn’t start he let you know he could be a future starter and that’s another thing guys let you know what they are capable of long term and it allows you to make certain decisions if Antonio Johnson had not done what he did last year I don’t know if you see raan Jenkins somewhere else you see that’s the way the development goes but we’re going to name and go through uh The Unofficial depth chart because the Jaguars official depth chart of course isn’t out yet and be counting to to do that because you be telling everybody who you already think is going to be the starter instead of saying it’s a competition right so let me go through the unofficial uh depth chart here that they have on ESPN now if you start with the defense one of the things that I did notice they still have them in an odd front and we’ve heard that they’re going to most likely play an even front and then if you look at the way that they drafted and the way that they shape themselves free agency it all points to an even front and then you look at Ryan neelson and where he comes from and his pedigree points to an even front so I think ESPN is a little bit off on this but just for the sake of the show I’m going to use it and I’ll Twerk it and twist it however I need to be all right so go to the secondary they have five starters list they have Nickelback and Darnell Savage of course we know that Tyson Campbell’s at one corner Ronald Darby is at the other Antonio Johnson and Andre Cisco are your safety strong safety for Johnson free safety for S Francisco looks like they’re gonna play a lot of split safety or maybe even single high depending on uh I think what the down and distance situation is so they got some good depth behind them with uh Terell Edmonds who is and Daniel Thomas Daniel Thomas is a great special team player but Terell Edmond is a very very interesting they have him second team ahead of dwey Wingard that’s going to be something that we need to pay attention to because winguard has had some flashes in his career here in Jacksonville and he’s become a bit of a fan favorite after at first everybody always blaming him for everything and waned him to not be there so there are some interesting battles right there like we think we know who the starters are but there are some people that believe that jaran Jones will challenge early for a starting spot he’s actually on this unofficial depth chart listed as 13 so this is the gospel but it just gives you an idea if people can get this mixed up that if if if something can be confusing or mixed up then that means that they might be have a conversation that needs to be had the conversation we’re talking about is the one on the football field let’s move up a level and talk about the linebackers and and we’ll get into more depth about these guys um as we move along in the show they still have Trayvon Walker listed as a Sam and Josh Hines Allen listed as a a will that’s not the way that this is going to work this year and by the way Josh Hines Allen I am still calling the charger San Diego do not if I slip up and and don’t call your whole name it is not disrespect but I will do my best all right uh we just I called your name so much over the last five years man I’m just used to saying it one way but I will not be like that guy that got his butt whooped by Muhammad Ali and keep just purposely disrespecting you so I’m G to try to get that right as much as I can so I think Hines Allen and tray Ron will be listed as defensive ends this year so that changes the linebackers and with five starters in the secondary you’re looking at two starters at linebacker you’re looking at a right inside linebacker and a left inside linebacker or a uh a Mike and then just an off the- ball guy depending on you know I guess where they line up the the tight end or whatever so you got to be a little bit more versatile but right off the bat we know that they anticipate that it’s going to be four oldan and and Devin Lloyd and they’re right to do that obviously here here’s where the competition comes at what do they do with yashia Abdullah what do they do with vent Miller who has gotten himself healthy and in really good shape what do they do with Chad Muma and which one of which two of those guys are V are vowing to be the next two they also got kayin Cale Caleb Johnson and Tai Summers I think they’re going to go probably with four and if you think about the four um interior guys it’s Miller and Muma as the as the key backups to uh Devin Lloyd and and Foy o Khan obviously but there is something to be said because you got to be ready to play and Chad M and vent Miller have to show themselves that they’re ready because just like in a pinch they could be called up and you know how things go in the NFL man guys get banged up guys have to come out guys have to take breaks guys have to rest so I’ll park it right there for a second and tell you that that is why I think the linebackers not the starters but the depth that line backer is going to tell a lot about this team because they’re going to have to make a decision on Devon Lloyd long term they’re going to have to make a quicker decision on Chad Muma and the only way you’re going to be able to do that if guys don’t really get hurt and people don’t get a lot of opportunities you got to see what happens in practice you just have to see what happens in practice and if those guys can make it very very difficult for you to keep them on the P so we’re going to talk about some other fights we need we’re even talk about the word fight ain’t nothing wrong with a little bit of Chip IPP in training camp at all as long as they make the players understand that look this is something that we want to do all the time we don’t want to hurt each other but we we want this thing to be on the edge it is up to the coaches to have to put the leash on and pull guys back not to make guys move forward and have to make them more intense I thought the camp last year was just for to me it was just too nice and then they ended up sitting around waiting for the intensity to pop in and it never happened I think they have to create that for themselves so I’ll talk about that more here in segment number two in just a second on lock on Jaguars Today’s Show is brought to you and sponsored by the game time app what is game time man game time is the two here on locked on Jaguars with your team every day talking about training camp battles I already mentioned linebacker one I’m going to run through a couple of these real quick too uh as we continue up the depth chart and kind of tell you why I think fighting is fighting can be good a little bit sometimes when you’re trying to you’re trying to establish dominance you’re trying to establish leadership you don’t want to go overboard with it but you still want to see a little bit of it all right so moving up this depth chart this unofficial depth chart uh on ESPN I’ll correct it as we go along like I already corrected with the U I corrected by letting folks know that they’re going to run more of an even front uh this year than they have in the past um not the odd front that you saw uh last year with Josh Allen and trayon on first and second down standing up like outside linebackers with only three down lineman so let’s go up front already mentioned those two guys outside I think as the games begin you’re gonna see Eric Armstead lined up a three technique there will be some situations where he’s out at Big end whether they mix it up match it up uh differently or one of the other guys I just mentioned is not in the game uh Josh Hines Allen and Trayvon Walker but Trayvon i i i Eric Armstead I anticipate is going to start out at three technique position here’s a battle for you do we go with that guy who can play that zero or that one and Devon Hamilton or do we try to put Roy Robinson Harris in their next to um uh Eric Armstead sort of the way the 49ers use Javon hogro like he’s not a traditional he’s more of an inside pass rusher as as opposed to a traditional uh nose tackle or or one gapper um he he he can do all of it but he’s known as a guy that gets sacks and that’s why they paid him so much money you wouldn’t have seen them give him a $90 million contract if all he was was a nose tackle so I think it depends on the matchups and then it depends on which one of those guys in Camp is the most dominant and the person that you can’t leave off if we get Devon Hamilton from two years ago it’s going to be hard to keep him off the field he’ll give you a little bit of what Donovan Darius gave not Donovan Darius um Marcel Darius what he gave this team in 2017 and then 2018 before he got hurt that’s a big girthy 330 PB dude man that can move and can also apply interior pressure so uh they’re going to have some versatility Roy Robinson Harris and he used to be the biggest and tallest dude on that line but he’s not no more with Eric Armstead coming in here so they’re going to be very very formidable and then you have to ask yourself who gets into that rotation behind him of all the guys Adam gotis who’s still there Yash abdulla still listed as a little bit of an edge rusher here and maybe he could be a situational Edge rusher because of his size but now you got Jordan Jefferson and Mason Smith along with Tyler Lacy all of these dudes with these sort of different body types but they can play uh inside on certain situations some of them can play outside if you go to an odd front um some of them play Gold Line it’s really really going to depend on Jeremiah Le better is still in there miles Cole is a young guy who’s still in there it’s really in my opinion going to depend on who is dominating Camp it’s like I know what you want to do but no I’m gonna force you to do this for me so I expect a little bit of chippiness and hope to see a little bit of chippiness in that backup group like I we know who the first five guys are definitively T Trevis Gibson is obviously I believe the the the fourth guy at at Edge because I think Eric Armstead is going to be used at Edge some at the big end position now we need that’s six and if they keep nine we need to figure out who they gonna be I know Mason Smith is gonna be there and Jordan Jefferson is gonna be there who’s gonna be that last dude to make it what if they keep nine what if they keep 10 who’s going to be those last two dud that’s where I think this fight should happen this is where uh teams get better and then that that second group of guys if I’m Mason Smith I’m saying the hell with roal Harris he’s older than me I’m going to beat him out right now that’s what you actually need you need people that don’t concede anything you need guys that aren’t conceding anything you need guys that are fighting and scrapping for everything you know Tom Coughlin talked about it I want to see who wants to win lunch today who who’s going to show me the most grit and know those things are old school but they hold true those you know you still need those players to really really show you exactly what what it is that they can do and the other thing is we don’t like mentioning injuries and we don’t like mentioning but it happens the nature of the Beast is that’s what happens in football if these players show you what they’re capable of they give you enough hope then the Jaguars don’t have to go out and get a veteran maybe if somebody tweak something in Camp they just go out and get a body they don’t have to go out and give extra money to sign a veteran guy that they probably really wouldn’t sign if their veteran guy wasn’t nicked up just for a few weeks but now any veteran guy worth this medal he ain’t going to take anything less than a a guaranteed league minimum so if if you have dude to twist his ankle he’s out for four weeks why go give a guy $2 million and guarantee him for the whole year and then cut a young dude and then that dude’s coming back so playing well allows the team to have a better idea of exactly what they have so they they don’t have to go out and spend uh money that they probably shouldn’t let’s move over to the offensive side of the ball everybody knows Trevor Lawrence is the quarterback M Jones is listed at number two CJ Betha they signed him it’s a different League now you need three quarterbacks again like you used to and uh I think the order of that is pretty much settled and solidified of course we know that Travis etn is the running back here they have a one running back three wide receiver set which I think that’s what you see the Jaguars in most of the time anyway tank bsby is listed at number two which I fully expect and then deest Johnson and Ken Robinson all different players kelen Robinson is more like Travis etn than anything but all different kinds of players with different kinds of skill sets that allow you to be able to do things I think Tank’s going to have a pretty good year I think it’s going to have a good year and be a nice little change of pace Peak piece for Travis etn so there’s not a whole bunch of competition it’s just more or less like uh how many plays can you make the coaching staff switch up and give you uh if you’re uh the offensive guy how many how many how how much can you make him say damn man we got we got to draw something up for him we we got to let him touch the ball three or four the way they did Jamal agnu I want them to do that to some of these running backs like we can’t keep him off the field we at least got to give him a little bit of a package right as aamp your pace to maybe throw a little curveball at the other team but you only earn that in training camp you cannot concede that well because I’m not a starter I gotta act like a backup no no no no no that’s not the way that this is going to work so let’s get to the wide receivers because I want to save the offensive line for Segment number three because y’all know how I feel about that the receivers everyone here it’s it’s Christian Kirk gab Davis Brian Thomas Jr that’s what we fully fully expect right and I think that’s what we’re going to get yeah the key is is after that what if they keep six now the six that are listed here the second three are Parker Washington Tim Jones and Deon duber I get it Devon du was signed a free agency for a multi multitude of reasons of for multiple reasons he’s going to stick Parker Washington ain’t going nowhere for the price and for what I’ve seen from him and at least last year he was able to get into the end zone a couple of times and now in the offseason they say he looks great if there’s a vulnerable spot right there it is Jones because my thing is okay buddy you’ve been here three years what you got other than what you’ve already shown us and if what you have already shown us was enough maybe Deon du Renee wouldn’t even be here right but the Jaguars have added four wide receivers ahead of him or at least on par with him you think about Parker Washington Deon duene Gabe Davis and Brian Johnson that’s four guys they added and they had Tim Jones right there so that tells you that there’s room there’s room how about Josh Joshua cus that’s the dude that everybody keeps talking about that’s the guy that everyone is saying was underd drafted for other reasons other than his ability to play maybe that’s the spot maybe that competition between Joshua cus and Tim Jones maybe that’s the one you look for to see if he can make enough plays but Tim Jones Elijah Cooks those guys have been around they’ve been around and they’ve been here long enough uh that the coaching staff knows what they have they must like them because they’re still here but they don’t like them enough that they’re going out getting guys around the and creating more competition so I think if Joshua cus is going to make this team he’ll take straight aim at Tim Jones’s position and just try to outworking we’re gonna talk about the offensive line that yeah that offensive line the one that I always talk about uh we’re gonna hit to that in segment three but first I got to tell you that uh if you’re watching Fox Sports or ESPN on your TV all day and you have to turn down the volume with all that shouting make the switch to locked on sports today it’s a free 247 sports streaming Channel programmed for you every day to bring you the biggest stories without all the screaming lock on sports today brings you can’t miss analysis opinions and news streaming 247 on YouTube or the free Amazon Fire TV channels app part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day we’ll talk about the offensive line and then shape and paint a picture while all of this is important for the immediate future as well as the not to immediate future we’ll do that here segment number three on locked on Jaguar and it is locked on Jaguars segment number three as we take it home uh we reviewing going over some training camp battles being specific about groups and individual players uh We’ve touched on everything except the offensive line and we’re GNA hit on that offensive line right now okay on this unofficial depth chart and I think I probably agree with it of course left tackle cam Robinson left guard Ezra Cleveland Center Mitch moris and I know everybody’s doing cartwheels when I say that but you all know that right guard is Brandon Sheriff right tackle is Anton Harrison has a chance to be a really good group if uh certain things happen if obviously everyone has to stay healthy because that’s been the biggest problem with the continuity of the offensive line is like the group that you want in there uh they just haven’t been available and then Ezra Cleveland taking that next step being here a little bit longer for an entire offseason um and all of that stuff so the five are pretty much settled right I think Walker little is your swing guy automatically no if ANS or buts about it and I think Walker has an opportunity here he finally has a chance to say look y’all ain’t cutting me after this year or y’all not gonna let me hit free agency y’all G have to give me some money to stay here man I’ll stay here how much does he like being here and how much and how much of a chance does he really believe he has an opportunity to continue to develop and take cam Robinson’s job walk a little if he has really really good training camp and a good preseason can make the Jaguars offer him something to say now what if he’s good enough that they can say we can trade Camp to a team that needs a left tackle or somebody that gets an injury we can get some some capital for him uh and we can plug and play with Walker little and then who’s going to be Walker Little’s gu is it going to be Javon Foster or are they going to play Mard like a lot of Scouts believe can it be Cooper Hodes I don’t know or maybe the backup to that question question is well if Cam Robinson goes down Anton Harrison goes over the left tackle and Walker little slides in at right tackle maybe that’s uh the way that you go but that is going to be a critical critical spot Walker little has to hold off some of these young dudes behind him but he also has a chance to show the Jaguars that he can be a real part of their future I never give up on the dude as long as he is there with an opportunity and a chance I I because I remember the dude didn’t play for two years man in college because of his knee injury and because of coach and I and I told her to get it and he’s had a coaching change since he got into the league so I’m not going to give up on him Luke forner Luke needs to show people that he is not just an afterthought Luke needs to continue to improve soak up anything that Mitch moris is trying to give him and Luke forner has a chance to tell the Jaguars I’m still a part of your future I am still a part of your future I am not going to be uh the dude that gets away from here and becomes a journeyman I am a part of your future you can keep me because if Luke forner does what he’s supposed to do then maybe Tyler Shatley can can finally be be overtaken by one of those young players but if Fortner doesn’t you’re going to need Shatley because of the experience so that’s where the Cooper Hodes comes in and I know they have Cooper Hodes here listed as a third string right tackle but I think Cooper hoders has the versatility to play all along that offensive line if he is able to do that that would enable them to look up at one of those veterans and say you know what we got enough and we have enough versatility which they’ve talked about for years they love guys that they can move around we’ve got enough that we can do something we can move on one of these older guys and start becoming that draft and developed team that we keep saying we want to be so I’ll tell you this I don’t want this team to to learn how to fight in training camp I want to learn how to play football but one thing I will tell you ain’t nothing wrong with being chippy this is competition man ain’t nothing nice about it you’re holding everyone accountable you’re not just trying to take people’s lunch money from you take you are but what you’re doing is you’re saying I’m going to try to take it and if you can’t stop me from taking it you ain’t good enough to be on this team anyway however many I can take every time I take somebody’s lunch money and you let me do it then I’m just I’m trimming the fat off this team I think everybody on this team needs to become an apex predator yeah become an apex predator meaning there are 53 jobs and there are 90 of y’all and maybe 40 of them are already decided and it probably the number might even be higher than that but even if I can’t take the job I’m going to make you think long and hard I’m going to make you think long and hard about letting me go because you’re going to have to see me somewhere else I’m going to make you think damn is it cheap is it better to keep the the cheaper option than it is to keep this older guy who’s going to be here for one year but this dude has a lot more in his tank and he he’s shown us something this year you can’t be a draft and developing Team without actually leaving yourself open to the development actually happening and occurring you also can’t fall in love with names and be afraid to let people go you just can’t do it you can’t be afraid of what people are going to think about you you have to be able to stand on what you see and these players have a responsibility not only to the team but to themselves to give the coaches a canvas that is clear that they can read it it’s got to be clear as day no he this is what we can’t get rid of him nope we got a spot for him I understand and know exactly what he’s going to do they need to make this hard coaches want to see that fight because on Sunday that’s what they’re going to see from the team they’re going to see a team having to scrape and fight and be in tough situations and get frustrated and get angry they want to see exactly what it is that you’ll do Under Pressure how do you uh respond to pressure how do you create pressure how do you move during pressure how do you interact your teammates when pressure can I still reach you can I still hear you therefore practice has to become so intense that the game is easy and the only way it’s never gonna be easy but you know what I mean easier mentally the only way you’re going to learn that I think they need to have a very very physical training camp I don’t think this team is is still constructed to the point where oh my God we got to protect everybody just because you’ve been banged up in the past no they had some training camps where they haven’t been real physical and guys still got banged up there’s always a question of whether or not a physical Camp helps you more than a non-physical Camp hurts you vice versa I want to see physicality I want to see chippiness I want to see dudes this ain’t the time to be nice you can support each other but you got to push we’ve all been in situations like that some of them have come in the military and some of them come in different environments like we we we’ll smiling we’ll kumbai all later but right now we got to get to work that’s the attitude I hope we see I hope those battles heat up starting with the the backup linebacker position because the Chad movement question it’s going to answer another question that’s going to come a year or two down the road but we need you to do it now we’re not trying to answer that question uh that’s a year or two down the road but what we see now we’re going to remember it’s going to help us answer that question down the road I tell you what I got a I got an answer for you I don’t have a question the answer is locked on that’s right locked on as launch the first ever National Sports 247 streaming Channel on YouTube and now it’s also available on Amazon Fire TV in the free Fire TV Training Camp battles are necessary, even for the Jacksonville Jaguars who, like every other team, knows who most of their starters are. But, competition is still needed so we lined up some position groups and players who must do their part if the team is gonna rise and take a step forward.
