Marsha was vk’s second leading scorer on the man advantage had eight goals nine assists right behind Jack eel’s 22 points 11 and 11 Chris and on the power play if uh you know if you were to guess what the power play unit might look like would it be potentially Tomas hurdle the turtle Jack eel Ivan barbash cheef perhaps Mark Stone Noah hanen could that be the top unit that’s what I suspect there’s something close although perhaps we could see Victor Olson he fits in well I think with pp1 power play one that is and only one power play goal a season ago Chris but if you go back that was the season of discontent in Buffalo but if you go back the four previous seasons he had 32 Power Play Goals so how are things going to that you said was that Allon you said correct olivon and how do you think things will shape up there on the first on the top power play unit to try to replace again more points you need to replace and 17 points uh left behind by jonath the Maro so I’m with you on four of the players I was literally just writing it down hurles C’s going to take the face off eel’s going to be on the left Circle Stone’s going to be on the right side or the bumper probably more than anything hanahan’s gonna be the quarterback yeah now you got a combination dor of bran and olivon and Olson’s uh Power Play points I didn’t research that so that’s definitely uh interesting to see he’s a lefty so you can put him on the right Circle I’ve heard people have reached out to me and said dude’s got a good one-time so you could see Olson in that role you could see dor of another Lefty in that role or you could see Brennan bran another Lefty in that role no barf no Barber Chef barev no I when you said Barber chev’s name I looked him up I was just curious I was just curious because I think that they rolled him out there power play one last three Power Play Goals last season two the year before just on the golden Knight side then zero with the blues he has 10 career Power Play Goals barbashev does so for whatever reason he’s a net crashing you know physical forward who you would think would fit well in that bumper slash just get your uh get your butt in front of the goalie get that big Bo of the goalie big old booty here yeah kosar’s got a chance to play on that apparently um apparently we’ll see I mean will Carri I used to get some power play time when they had this uh makeshift third power play unit back in the in the dbor and more or less in the Galant days so olivon could be interesting because that LE at least creates some balance now you got a second line that that encompasses nicku will Carl William Carlson um barbashev possibly is in there Theodore’s the quarterback of that one but honestly I see City going a little bit more to what you see happening a lot around the league where the first Power Play unit is the only Power Play units they play the first 90 95 100 seconds of the power play and then they take them off and they basically basically get one of their regular lines out there so they’re ready for the other team when the kill is over s to speak so they’ll put the second defenseman and stuff like that um you mentioned marcheso eight Power Play Goals gold Knights had 51 Power Play Goals ranked him 20th overall on the power play with a percentage of 20.24% five more goals gets him in like to the top 12 or top 10 like the the margins are extremely small for moving up or down the ranking so basically what is the golden Knight’s path to getting you know 55 57 Power Play Goals the percentage can skew that but 55 to 57 power play net goals when the dust settles and could there be a better person than marcheso in that mix of dorfy of bran olivon or someone within the team time time will tell and I think eel is probably going to be the biggest weapon honestly okay you speak about weapons and again trendy league and we saw in the playoffs in the Stanley Cup Final where Edmonton tried repeatedly to have both Conor McDavid and Leon dry cdle on the ice at the same time so the big two for for vgk I’m still struggling with a little bit because Tomas hurdle’s a question mark and then of course you have Jack Kel what two potent scores would you want on the ice at the same time on power play unit number one for vgk do the Golden Lights and I not trying to shake things up no no no have two point scores better question Tony this is what I’m asking right I fell right into the bait right there I I follow where where you’re going with that no and I’m not being that’s not negativity no it’s not negative it’s reality who who is who is 1A who is 1 a going to be honestly no that’s fair um Mark ston Power Play Goals so Mark Stone actually had 10 Power Play Goals or assists I’m sorry that’s assist last year that’s assist dude no four Power Play Goals okay four Power Play Goals there we go EX so I mean I really want to see how the golden KN scored these 51 Power Play Goals I guess maybe if I was better at this I would have researched a little bit more um but where else is the power play scoring coming from last season just thinking out loud I meanone Carlson was number three I think overall okay in Power Play points for vgk so it was uh technically it was eeko with 22 uh marsho had 16 Carlson Maybe 14 points or I got you yeah so is he going to be onea is he going is Carlson going to be 1A will they plug him in at some point maybe I mean he’s got the experience out there definitely but now you’re also taking you’re you’re loading everything I mean I guess if you’re looking at it from a 1A one in a 1A perspective at least is the best the golden kns can offer then yeah Carlson would be a perfect person to slot in there he doesn’t really have that that one-time shot but he’s got a good snipe he’s got a good he’s good passing and what do you have 30 just goals overall last year so he had a scorer touch I mean you can make the he was a 3030 Club he was on the 3030 Club that’s that’s pretty big right there so if the gold Knights are going to follow what you’re seeing across the league you’re going to see Carlson slot in and then injuries or performance or a combination thereof will dictate possible changes and it it would be interesting to see a second line now you got Nick W now you got an olivon you got Theodore as the I didn’t even put W I didn’t put W the a second line Second Line second no I’m saying yes I I’m with you I would say a second line would be Vegas Bjorn and perhaps Holtz olivon your QB Theodore petrangelo where you didn’t mention petrangelo right and and you still have you still have Nick gu yeah petrangelo you don’t really see two defenseman anymore out there it’s uh you know the 80s power plays used to have your two strongest uh defenseman out there those one-timers and all I’m stuck in the 80s I’m stuck in the 80s yeah now it’s a lot more about now it’s a lot more about the Finesse and getting that pass and getting that one timer to uh you know the circles or getting the puck to the bumper and stuff like that you could see that in the second power play unit where two defens spin are out there but I mean petangel has had power play time remember when he first joined the golden knights we’re going back to the Dort days now he was just shooting everything on the power play he gets a lucky shot I mean you can’t go wrong shooting on the power play to a degree at least but petrangelo I guess if we’re going to rank the three defenseman is slotted down number three in the power play and I mean we kind of joke about it but it’s also kind of serious him and Theodore both petrangelo and Theodore they had issues just catching the puck at the Blue Line when they’re right there and keeping it in and hopefully uh something like that is a thing in the past and gets corrected I do want to talk more about that bumper position which is so important especially since we see where vgk likes to go below the goal line and work its way out that you know technically that’s what they’ve been trying to do uh at times it does not work but that bumper position is so important and Mark Stone of injured um and that’s the the guy that you want I guess I suppose in front of the net when he’s 100% but who knows what percentage he’ll be at I think hurdle fits that mold as well a hurdle does fit that mold yes he can definitely get up and in there in in right in the slot and then uh that’s where you know again I think you left out barbash cheef but can’t barbash cheef be that guy too or no he hasn’t he hasn’t that’s the thing and I don’t think it’s lack of chance they’re gonna have to reconfigure a lot here I would think oh they’re definitely going to they’re definitely going to but is it is it barbashev is it you work on more l a player like a Nick W who also has that touch and that in that size in that spot that might be a better option nicku has had a lot of power play time with the golden knights over the last few seasons um I mean stats don’t stand out I mean eight points on the power play in 45 years I mean you know or eight goals 12 or seven goals 12 power play assists so I mean yeah you just you want someone to be able to screen in front of the net too outside of those numbers you need a big body there you do and the one thing we haven’t even talked about was coaching um golden Knight’s last well no it fits into this it fits into the power play side and all that and I guess what’s going to be the change right I mean we’ve heard Cassidy talk about okay this is a power play that creates motion you want to get the defenseman’s feet moving which creates a scoring lane and then you get a second AR or an additional pass kind of like a tic-tac-toe type of play getting it to the bumper that’s plan a obviously plan a rarely felt like it was working the golden knights I don’t think have the skill not even as much as Edmonton does but Toronto back in the stam Coast hman coocher off days and watching the way those three just worked the puck around around the perimeter finding those one-time shots the gold Knights just don’t whether it’s something on the coaching side or the skill side eel’s that guy we’ve talked a lot about eel you know and before um before barbash chev’s arrival how many times we see eel make just a pinpoint perfect pass and the forwards weren’t ready for it or they couldn’t handle it and stuff that doesn’t happen in Edmonton doesn’t happen in Tampa so can hurdle catch that pass can Stone catch that pass Allison barbashev the list goes on and on and on so do the gold Knights go to a more traditional iny face work the puck in the perimeter get the Puck uh towards the net and see what happens or they do do they try and keep it below the goal line and I think whatever has been happening hasn’t working that well based on where rank it it is a huge coaching challenge ahead for South Beach Bruce it is without Marone is eight goals too yeah this is his most well overall gonna say shout out to Fergie who moved up one spot in the national anthem Power Rankings last night optimal third the NBA Allstar game oh yes of course Fergalicious dude moved up one spot last night let’s go optimal third line for vgk in other words the line that still needs to be assembled like the Ikea Billy bookcase that is the most popular item at Ikea these days what is what is it called I’m looking this up what is this called it is called the Billy bookcase our research Department was hard at work last night I see Carlson and olivon to start line three exciting really bookcase okay I don’t know that’s their most popular selling item there at Ikea come on man give me credit good for them drop some flowers over here who else uh if they go with olivon on line three um maybe Holtz ban who are the candidates where are you going here with your optimalization well I mean the third line again this is something that’s that’s important in the sense that the third line is always one of the most challenging you can usually a coach that is can identify their top six players you can identify the energy players going backwards it’s obviously easy to see that ksar and Nicholas W are most likely two pieces of the fourth line where who that third piece is going to be who knows your top six is some combination that’s going to have an eel and a stone and a barbashev and a hurdle and whoever else I’m possibly leaving out for the other two spots right there I keep W to say March so but that’s all news so looking at the third line right now Carlson’s going to be the center I think that’s goes that’s a foregone conclusion on the left side we saw this a good chunk last year you got Brett Howen Howen responsible player not going to score a ton but a responsible player makes that third line very difficult to play against on the right side I think this is where an Alex Holtz can slot in nicely Olson not really known for his defensive ability Holtz not necessarily either but Holtz is a lot younger and can learn a lot from developing a responsible side of his game with a 3030 player Tony there you go with Carlson in the middle and his 30 goals last season that could really help Holtz and uh Howen just has to stay a little more responsible and that’ll be a tough line I think your second way to look at this if the the golden knights want to continue to try and see if they can get something out of Nicholas W besides him being the fourth line Center you drop Howen down to that fourth line Center rle you put pel dor on the left side right there dorf and Carlson have had a lot of time together did have a lot of time together in the 2023 24 season and then on the right side you go with or on the right side you go Nick W so Carlson W on the right wing on the left Wing dorv you got three players that can score you got dorv who has improved his game defensively he’s developing a nice poke check and a nice back check so you have that responsibility of a tough line to play against and then a line that can come down and score in a moment’s notice and I actually like that line I think a tiny bit better and then you just kind of see where things go from there because okay so whates anyway what’s that line again the second version of my optimal third line Carlson nicka rightwing paval dor of left wing and what’s your optimal first line my optimal yeah know I mean if we’re going Topline I mean I think you’re gonna look at eel Stone and barbashev knowing the way Cassidy just kind of likes to have a go-to line he wants a go-to line he wants that Top Line that’s going to be responsible in every shift they’re out there they’re going to have the puck most likely on the other side on the offensive the optimal third line is the first line you said what’s the optimal first line I thought I said what was my optimal third first line yes okay start going back to what I said Carlson in the middle Howen left wing htz rightwing yeah Howen needs to be moved up perhaps right he does moved up where not not past the third line I hope to that third line no because it and eventually that’ll be his line anyway you’re gonna see two centers on that line you’re gonna see two centers on that line Cass so trendy there he absolutely is he definitely really does like the two Center Line why faceoffs number one yes 100% face off 100% faceoffs and it just makes the line more difficult to play against if the third line is a shutdown line you got a good Hockey Club is this the line of most concern heading into the season the third line generally speaking is the most concern for most NHL teams because first you got to pick a path is your third line in energy grinder type of line like a fourth line or is it a skill line like your top six and then it’s kind of hard to find the players Paul Cotter is a perfect example Paul Cotter is he an energy player is he a skill player he wants to be a skill player his stats suggest he’s an energy player so now if he’s playing on the third line is he a skilled player is he an energy player so yeah I think the third line is of concern honestly I think for the golden knights heading in the next season I think the second line is probably the bigger question mark right now hurdle’s gonna be the center talking about the third line okay normally in normal circumstances I say the third line is of most concern but that’s what the our topic is no our topic is what’s the optimal third line right the optimal third line and and C why cter isn’t he playing on the NG NG NJ Energy power play now no I was using cter as an example as why the identity of a third line of difficults all right man a little bit shaky today here let’s take a break here we’ll get things yeah we’ll get things reorganized here so your optimal third line once again is my optimal third line Carlson how and Holtz okay I don’t that’s line of concern for Golden Knights where is bro gonna play that’s going to be part of our question next where is he going to slot in oh we’ve got an over under for games played and points potentially projected for Brendan bran that comes your way next right here on lockdown golden knights back on this shaky thoughts you got him you got him as a point in every in basically a 75% Point player then potentially he’s going get a listen if he’s getting a point in 75% of his games he’s playing points he had he had uh eight points in 15 games yeah know he was basically every other game which is definitely a good start for a young player um I will go 57 games I think it’s going to be a little bit higher just 57 no no no no 56 and a half 56 and a half fair enough that one no no ties no ties TI lose on this show TI’s lose well then I want a tie yeah um all right so 56 and a half games I like that and I’m gonna go a little lower I think and I’m gonna go with 24 and a half points um 24 and a half 24 and a half okay so you have 56 and a half 56 and a half 24 and a half points 24 and a half this is documented folks on a napkin that we’ll never see again yeah I’ll lose that I’ll Dr I’ll put a beverage on there get soaked it’ll get soaked and I’ll have to throw it away you have to look at just I mean you got Holtz you got Olson you got Doria you got all these players boy what does this sound like what does this sound like a season ago D or cter what’s going to happen back they can they need to solidify this lineup that’s where I went ahead they need to and that’s exactly and I’m with you the lineup needs to be solidified I like that and you’re not going to have all these players have an amazing season um bran might but if bran does I don’t think Holtz and Olson do like only one of these players I think is going to pop I think Hol you put ban in that mix wow okay one of is one of the play he’s one of the four yeah the four corner one of the four is one of the four players who need to do something or two of these four players for the Golden Lights to be successful in 2425 so you’re saying a four player round robin is what you need to do I guess yeah but problem is if two of them pop you’re going to lose money you need three of them um no the four players who really are under the microscope this year that are going to need for this team to get somewhere dorv bran Holtz Olson two of those players need to do something maybe this is a whole new topic coming up here um but bran in general sticking with him they’re going slow with him they’re going slow with him We’ve joked a lot about all his time in the rookie camps and stuff but he’s gone through multiple rookie or multiple development camps he had 15 games games last season where it seemed like with all the injuries and stuff the golden knights had bran maybe could have had some more minutes and you also there’s other reasons why they don’t play him as much you got the waiver situation the eligibility and all that so the gold Knights are making sure they can move him up and down at Free Will that’s why I think you and I agree he’s not going to be around for 82 games I think he’s going to go up and down a little bit and get some healthy scratches every now and then um as far as why I’m saying 20 what 24 and a half points or something like that team team’s going slow with him is he going to get that power play time do they put him out there in that first Power Play unit and say take marcho spot if that’s the case maybe he does get seven or eight Power Play Goals and all of a sudden now we’re talking about a 40-point player in 75 games which would be phenomenal for the golden knights is Bruce Cassidy sold on Brendan bran that’s a bigger question is he sold on him um the good thing about that is Cassie doesn’t have a choice right now Cassidy has to be open to the idea of multiple young players having an impact on this roster and a lot of players who don’t even have a 100 games of NHL service like I believe a Doria fits that mold if I’m wrong someone can correct me um Howen not really a younger player but as far as watching his growth you know so is bran is Cassy sold on bran the answer is no it’s per no because that’s how cassid he is when it comes to young players you got to pay your du your line Tony um but he has to earn that Holtz has to earn that olivon not really a younger player but kind of you know coming in in a reset has to earn that Howen W like everyone is basically trying to earn their stripes again with the golden knights and I don’t think Cassy is sold on a whole lot I think Cassidy is probably going to come into it was easy for Cassidy coming in the last season it was the same team year-over-year and then obviously injuries happened this year it’s not the same this is going to be I think the most interesting training camp in September of the entire organization all time yeah we’re going from the best all time team to the mo to the best alltime Camp the best the best team ever oh my goodness that again this is mcm’s word people like getting mad us when we bring this up this was mcm’s words he say last golden kns team was the best ever noton not Tony Chris definitely not me I think season two was honestly a really good team on paper but that the team that won the cup was the best team ever and of story that’s a fair assessment easy and I’ve started to follow the cup again with h Florida with the Panthers the GM had it yesterday where to go where to go he was on a boat it was on a boat so as soon as we find yeah we’ll get some good highlights I Barbers have treatments yeah for sure that was kind of quiet that s right for him they kind of like they didn’t have as many pictures of him bar right the second time bro F the first one the first one Tony is like the college kid taking it down to the bars in the college town just getting wasted and you know doing all the goofy stuff and you know getting blackout drunk and you know drinking out of the cup and the second one is a little more reserved you know and all that then the third one you start putting the family in there and you put the dog in there and the baby and you know you drink your cereal and your perog your perogies out of it your perogies
