Locked On Braves POSTCAST: Mistakes costly as Atlanta Braves fall to New York Mets in extras, 3-2

The Atlanta Braves got a strong start from Chris Sale, but the offense struggled and ran itself out of late opportunities in a sloppy 3-2 loss to the New York Mets in 10 innings on Thursday at Citi Field.

Grant McAuley and Jake Mastroianni of Locked On Braves discuss the latest in a long line of frustrating losses for the Braves, who saw their lead in the NL Wild Card slip by a full game to the surging Mets as they fell to 1-5 in the second half. With base running issues and a dropped fly ball proving costly in the late innings, can the Braves reverse their fortunes in Game 2 of the series behind Charlie Morton on Friday?

  1. When the pitching is there, the scoring ain’t. When the scoring manages a little, the pitching blows, thanks to Snit who punts game and doesn’t pitch his best pitchers, the absolute worst manager in the MLB. Cannot score a lick when it matters, RISP left on base galore, injuries galore, errors galore, Alvarez is a bust, this entire team is trash and has disappointed the city of Atlanta even more. There is zero teams that wins in Atlanta now. ZERO. Braves are the most disappointing team in MLB. Atlanta is the worse sports city in the world. Stick a fork in these Braves. SELL at the deadline. Zero things right. ZERO.

  2. If they can't win with Sale,
they probably can't win at all.
And a Mets' sweep will drop the Braves into third place.
    The Braves seem cursed.

  3. You are not convincing me they didn't throw that game. I don't know why they are doing it but there's no way that wasn't intentional. Dumbest play all year to get a Laureano cut down in the top of the 10th. Then Johnson pitches out of it, all he has to do is pitch around McNeil with 2 out and he throws him a meatball, he somehow DOESN'T hit it out of the park and Laureano overruns the fly ball and lets it bounce off his glove. All they have to do is make ONE smart play there out of those 3 and they go to the 11th. Make 2 and they win the game.
This team isn't making the playoffs, and I don't think they want to for some reason. Maybe they want AA to trade Fried away at the deadline. Maybe he smells or something.

  4. You guys should probably ask yourself. If Merrifield is stealing third, Kelenic attempting to bunt, and Laureano thinking it was a suicide squeeze. Why are the players doing whatever they want? Snitker has lost the clubhouse.

  5. Braves need to sell this year. No, I don't mean sell pieces of the 'core', but they have pieces that could get a solid return. They need to just heal up, reset, get some decent pieces for the farm, and come back stronger in 2025. I don't give a shit about the 'wildcard' spot, this isn't our year and it's painfully obvious. This is no longer a 'small sample size', this season is cursed.
