Welcome to the 8th day of training camp! Will be posting a new thread each day showing highlights, player/offense/defense performance, and any general updates from our reporters at camp! If you see anything that stands out please post a link in this thread and I'll add it to this post to make it easier for everyone else to see and catch up!

Camp Updates:

Much less updates, reporters asked not to tweet play by plays, but I'll post some updates for those without Twitter and recaps when they're posted.

Updates from Adnan Ikic:

Ray-Ray McCloud continues being the second receiver catching passes from Kirk Cousins, after London.

Every drill seems to end with one pass from Kirk Cousins to Kyle Pitts.

I’d say Carlos Washington has taken the clear lead as RB3 right now

OJ Hiliare absolutely just MOSS’d Mike Hughes, who was in perfect position to bat down the pass. Might have been the most impressive catch of camp. Teammates went wild.

Penix’s first incompletion was a deep shot dropped by Chris Blair for what would’ve been a TD. AJ Terrell looked to have tripped in coverage.

Drake London was given a pass high up on a fade route against Jayden Price one on one and just high pointed it for a TD

Kirk Cousins’ first incompletion of the day is a deep shot intended for Mooney which is intercepted by AJ Terrell in one on one coverage

Running training camp interception tracker: Clark Phillips III (2) Jessie Bates (1) AJ Terrell (1)

Washington when asked if he’s solidified his role behind Bijan and Allgeier: “that’s up to the coaches. But as I put my best foot forward I’ll try to make it undeniable.”

Recaps

Adnan Ikic's Recap Link

Marc Raimondi's Recap:

— The Falcons had a practice that was half “jog through” ahead of two joint practices at the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday and Wednesday

— Atlanta will remain in Miami and play the Dolphins in their first preseason game Friday night

— DT Grady Jarrett was an excused absence from practice due to personal reasons, per the team

— RB Bijan Robinson left practice early and went to the weight room to ride the bike and work the battle ropes. He did not appear to be injured necessarily and it could have been designed time off to limit his workload. The Falcons have not commented officially

— DLs James Smith-Williams and DL Ta’Quon Graham both joined Robinson in the gym during practice on the bike, though Smith-Williams later returned to the sidelines

— QB Kirk Cousins will not be playing in any exhibition game, so it’ll be a chance to catch the first glimpse of rookie QB Michael Penix Jr. in live NFL action

— Penix completed 8-of-11 passes in perhaps his best day of practice yet

— Penix found seven different receivers, led by WR Josh Ali (2)

— WR OJ Hiliare grabbed a Penix back-shoulder pass around CB AJ Terrell that might have been the best catch of camp so far. It drew a huge pop from the offense

— Cousins was 9-of-10, finding WR Darnell Mooney four different times, his most active receiver of the day

— Cousins threw lofted a beautiful pass down the sideline to RB Carlos Washington Jr., right in front of S Micah Abernathy, for a big gain

— Washington Jr. got first-team carries (5) in Robinson’s absence and seems to be an early frontrunner for the third running back role

— RB Tyler Allgeier got the majority of the first-team attempts on the ground (6), while on the second team RB Jase McClellan had five and RB Avery Williams had four

— DT David Onyemata continues to be creating penetration from the interior of the line, getting a sack on Penix with LB Troy Andersen

— Rookie DT Ruke Orhorhoro had a hurry on Penix, forcing an completion, and has come on in recent practices

— Cousins is going to have fun throwing jump balls to TE Kyle Pitts and WR Drake London this season. London made a terrific grab Monday over CB Jayden Price

— Terrell had his first interception of camp, a pick of Cousins on a deep ball in the end zone to Mooney. Terrell ran the ball all the way back with the defense cheering him on

— Cousins spent a few minutes after practice talking with Mooney and it appeared like he was specifically discussing hand placements

  1. Thoughts about the receivers…Little bit concerned that Kirk isn’t finding Pitts more in drills before the last pass. London sounds like he’s been putting in the work. I really hope he unlocks that Mike Evans potential. Hopefully, the social media team posts that crazy catch. I’m glad to hear Mooney is making his presence felt, I honestly wasn’t too high on that signing when it happened.
