  1. More context: the reports started with the post in the Phillies sub and continued to spread like wildfire on Twitter.

Posts leaked from a group text sent by an apparent medical examiner that claimed it was Johnny and in the group chat there was a photo of a note pad with notes with the car model and the name of the person involved in the accident “Johnny”

At this time we didn’t really know much more but assumptions ran rampant with people flooding the local police department with phone calls where they police would neither confirm nor deny the reports of Johnny’s involvement.

It was reported that Johnny and his Brother Matthew were avid cyclists and in their hometown for their sisters wedding

Let’s keep our fellow NHL family in our thoughts today.

  2. Wow!!!! R.I.P. Johnny and Matthew. This is a reminder to all the cyclists out there to be vigilant. You can be dead to the right and still end up dead wrong.

  3. Jonny hockey, damn what a loss. Bicycles just don’t belong on roads with cars. What a loss to hockey

Edit: yes drunk drivers are the worst. Cars and bicycles still do not belong together, they don’t even have a chance of surviving

  4. I don’t even know what to say. You just take it for granted that people are going to still be here tomorrow.

It’s almost too tragic to even think about. I feel heavy with grief and I don’t even know these people. The world is such a cruel place and everything can be over in an instant.

  5. Rest easy Johnny Hockey. The whole hockey world is thinking of his family. Just terrible.

  6. So terrible, can’t imagine the feeling for that family 🫂 I hope they can all take the time they need to grieve

  7. Really hate seeing anything like this for anyone. Sorry to the family right now. Nothing you can say can make that better

  8. Sending a hug to everyone involved. I can’t imagine how they must be feeling, dealing and grieving.

  9. Man, this shit is why you gotta tell your mom/dad/kids/wife/husband/neighbor/guy who makes that bomb falafel you love them every day. It can all just fucking end… no warning, no goodbyes, just over.

  10. devastating news. as someone who lives in western Canada, i saw Johnny Hockey almost singlehandedly reignite the passion Flames fans have for the game while he was in Calgary. hockey lost an amazing player and by all accounts i’ve read, an even better person.

    RIP to Johnny and Matthew.
