[Rapoport] From The Insiders on @NFLNetwork: #Chargers QB Justin Herbert sounds like a player adamant about playing, despite a high-ankle sprain.

  1. Let’s not lose the season for a single game.
Love to hear Herbert wants to fight through injury. But if it’s a close call, considering the injuries on the Oline, I’d rather not see him play and get 2 weeks of rest

  2. Herbert playing with a fucked up ankle with no alt or slater is a recipe for disaster that can easily be avoided. If we were 0-3 I’d be more on the fence about it but going into the bye at 2-2 is not bad at all.

  3. Unpopular opinion but if he’s good to go let him play. Many QBs have crappy o lines but if they’re good to play then they should play. Of course I wish the best upon herbie and the chargers but if healthy, it’s a go.

  4. I know everyone is terrified and all but…what if we win? In that scenario this team probably feels unbeatable going into bye to heal up

  5. We need to look at the season as a marathon and not a sprint. Too many times we rush into instant gratification and pay dearly at the end. I rather have Herbie rest up and get right then make a run.

  6. Harbaugh and hortiz need to be cautious with him so this ankle injury doesn’t cause long term issues with his ankle mobility and athleticism

  7. For reference, cooper Kupp also has a high ankle sprain and dude is missing at least 4-6 weeks. Justin needs to rest – what’s week4 when we still have weeks 6–18…

  8. People forget that he managed a year with Salyer at LT and Pipkins at RT. If, and only if our run game works against the chiefs, I would say keep him there.

My only problem is our really bad interior line. I would say a mix of run and short quick passes and don’t even try to get him killed by throwing bombs could possibly work.

Our WR core right now are all YAC people with QJ, Ladd and Davis. Let the chiefs try and stop the short passing + run game and at least it will give us a chance to win rather than concede the important game.

  9. It’s not up to Herbie, if Coach wants to yank him to rest up until after the bye week, he will.

  10. Im not a doctor but what happens to an ankle sprain if you don’t rest it? Is it a case where it just gets worse and because a pain management situation? Or can it actually progress to a different, more severe injury?

Just wanting to understand what the actual risks are here.

  11. He needs to be saved from himself I believe Harbaugh will do what’s best for the long run

  12. Hey J bird. It’s me. Uncle Stephen. It’s my 41st birthday this Sunday and I will be smoking a huge brisket for 20 plus hours. How bout me, you and the brisket watch the padre game together? DM me bro. I’ll be waiting.

  13. This popped up on my feed. Not a Chargers fan.

What is it with this team and playing Herbert banged up seemingly every year?

  14. If he beats the chiefs alot of you naysayers have to eat your words.

I understand the fear but he is a grown man. If he feels ready to play then let him.

  15. If he feels good enough to play, he’s going to play. That’s it. He’s played with worse lines with injuries, it’s not going to stop him now if he’s cleared by doctors to go.

I don’t disagree with why people think it’s smarter to punt this week and head into the bye. But ultimately these are professional athletes. He’s not going to run away from a game if he can play
