Come home Skip!

  1. Dream scenario, but I don’t see the Cards hiring a new manager in Mo’s last year, especially after extending Marmol. Hope I’m proven wrong though.

  2. Don’t do it Skip. Not with this front office not supporting you. Stay as far away as possible before you become this sub’s next whipping boy

  3. Skip has been my next choice to manage this team for a while. Yesterday, I.
Was sure the cardinals would try to make this happen. Today. I don’t see the point in making a managerial  change.

  4. What has Skip done to show that is a great manager?? Yeah, he won manager of the year with the Marlins, but so did Don Mattingly. Anyone can win MOY with the Marlins – just don’t lose more than 95 games in a year and you too can win it.

  5. I don’t think the three brain cells that comprise the entire Cardinals organization doing anything smart.

New Oli extension incoming, have to lock down that bag of flaming dog turds

  6. Can anyone explain to me how Skip’s resume is better than Oli’s? I don’t think Oli is an elite manager or anything, but he has objectively been more successful than Skip.

  7. I’m not sure how he manages but I’m going to stand by my statement I usually make.

STOP MAKING TEAM ACQUISITIONS BASED ON NOSTALGIA

St. Louis has this obsession with beating the absolute life out of dead horses to get their nostalgia fix from professional sports. I cannot for the life of me understand it. If you think I’m being absurd just imagine 10 years from now someone saying… Bring home Mikolas… like what, no. Again it could be a different story with skip but I like to standby my statement as a general rule.

  8. Why would Skip, or anyone else, want to come here with Mo still in charge of baseball operations?

  9. LOVE SKIP…but Katie’s. Article showed us anything it’s that this Cheap Org isn’t gonna pay for another Coach while they are already paying Oli next year. Also Rosenthal already reported that both MO and Oli are staying next season.

  10. I think he’d be great but he’s probably smart enough not to take the job. The team is in decline, the front office is in flux and the farm system in shambles. Competitive people want to win and he will have better options.

  11. Oli will finish out his contract. Amsinger said he spoke with Oli and he is extremely excited for the changes next season

  12. Oli is a good baseball mind genuinely believe that – but wouldn’t hate seeing a change at just about anywhere but our bullpen coach

  13. The only real complaint I see about Marmol is the team’s record. Kinda weird to want to replace him with the guy managing the 2nd worst team by record.

  14. oli is fine. we need better player development, hitting coaches, and general management much more than we need a new manager.

  15. the timeline where skip comes home is the same timeline where people start calling skip the worst manager of all time and yearn for the times when oli led the cardinals to over 90 wins in 2022. it happened to shildt

  16. For all the shit Marmol gets about O’Neill not hustling (and costing us a run in the process) and him doing the right thing in calling it out…

Let’s remember that Schumaker did the same thing this year with Jesus Sanchez when he dogged it in the OF. He removed him from the game immediately and then told the media about why. So…

  17. I think it needs to be understood, that when a team has really smart individuals running the business and development and minor league coaching process, that any manager will probably have success. Just look at the 2012 -2015 era with Mike Matheny was manager. Those teams were just backed up with one of the best organizations in baseball, then and for the most part it made it difficult for a manager to fuck it up. Even though Matheny’s playoff bullpen management did its best to anyway.

I don’t think any new manager should want to come to a rebuilding organization, lose for a few seasons as the franchise tries to rebuild, then get fired for a manager with more experience when the team becomes good again.

That’s why I don’t wish the next few years on Skip. It will mean he has to do all the work and get none of the reward. And if the rebuild doesn’t work out and it gets extended for another few seasons, he gets fired and his reputation as a manager is permanently sunk.

  18. Managers are currently overrated when the front office is letting data analytics do the majority of the work.

Anyone on this sub could be a major league manager. It’s not that tough. You get a binder full of someone else’s math telling you the mathematical tendencies of players vs other players and scenarios where they should perform well and you do the things.

  19. He’s joining the Reds unless he wants a break for a season and/or he’s willing to wait a season to join the Cards for the 2026 season. Oli’s fate is linked to Mo’s job; they’ll both be gone after next season and hopefully a bunch of other changes happen with that

  20. I know this won’t happen, but if it doesn’t, fire everyone in the FO.

But also, fire everyone in the FO regardless.

  21. Have to stop with the former Cardinals or coaches from the minor leagues.
    New blood. New perspective.

  22. People saying he’s a great manager after one great season. Reminder that Matheny and Oli had great first seasons managing.

  23. I’m sorry I want someone with no ties to the organization at all not even our minor leagues or played there. Stop using in house people.
