[Reds] The #Reds and Terry Francona have agreed to a 3-year contract through the 2027 season, with a club option for 2028.

  1. The term is interesting. The Reds have 6 players currently on the roster that will likely go FA after 28, and 13! set to possibly go FA after 29. So Francona has basically been given the keys to this generation, likely followed by a new manager for the retool/rebuild after that.

Interested to see who else they bring onto the staff, whether there may be someone there as a likely apprentice to successor.

  2. So funny story, Francona was one of my favorite players when he joined the Reds in the late 80’s. Not sure why, he wasn’t the greatest obviously, but liked him for some reason. Actually had a special page in one of my binders for his Reds cards. Guess I’ll need to start collecting again to add the manager cards.

  3. I somehow missed the breaking news of him from yesterday so getting this just blew my mind….

Maybe….maybe they actually want to try and win a title? What the hell??

  4. Probably the best thing to happen to this franchise since Joey Votto, yet I can already hear a certain subsection of this community saying: “How many games are you going to give him before you scream to fire him too?” and waxing poetically over Dusty Baker.

Edit: I think I made them mad lol

  5. I think this is clearly a short term option to build a team and try to win quickly before Elly inevitably goes to the Dodgers and Terry retires again (already 65)

But if we can build a good team in the meantime it can last beyond both Terry and Elly

  6. When I broke this news yesterday, I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it this morning. This seems like real effort on the part of ownership.
