The Cincinnati Reds had a couple of candidates for most improved player with Tyler Stephenson and Jonathan India having good bounce back seasons. The most improved pitcher was definitely Hunter Greene, but who took the biggest leap among Reds hitters between Stephenson and India? Jeff discusses why the choice is really no choice at all and why the Reds can count on this player moving forward. He also gives his pick who will be the Reds most improved player next year as there is a big list of candidates. Also, the Reds saw a few big performances in the Arizona Fall League and one concerning update on Matt McLain.

  1. RhettLowder and HG#21 and EDLC (who managed to hit nearly .260 with the crazy stats, which is much better than kast year)….i bet McClain woulda made list, too, if not injured

  2. WOW!!!! Jeff I understand. But people I don’t think were expecting the year that hunter Greene had. Yes we know he has that in him, but not a lot of people saw him making that big a jump. IMO at least because I think he went from a guy who could’ve been out of the rotation because he just wasn’t being his best there… to a guy that could’ve won the cy young. That’s a massive improvement.

With everything that happened last season, I keep coming back to the fact that there was an absolute lack of leadership with this team, both from the player perspective and the coach perspective. Quite literally, there was a Joey Votto sized hole on this roster. now I’m not saying that Votto should’ve been a part of this team, but somebody needed to step up and fill his role. I heard on multiple occasions how much he meant to playerslike Benson, the ability to just sit in the dugout and talk about hitting as well as other parts of life. This team really needs to get that veteran presence back.

  4. I am so glad I found your podcast. It is very informative, I don't live near Cinci, but I grew up in Ohio. Have not been able to get any Reds facts here in Cubs country. I don't ALWAYS agree with you, but you have opened my eyes to diff things that are going on. Thankx. I do not want Marte next year!

  6. One of the biggest benefits of a monitored strike zone will be the end of catcher “framing.” Umpires should be watching where the ball crosses the plate anyway. Not what Doug Henning act the catcher is doing when he catches the ball.

  11. Let me be clear that I do not think Fairchild is an everyday MLB player at all but early in the season based on his fielding I felt it was him. All said and done, I absolutely agree on Ty-Steve. I might also make an argument for Espinal because I always felt Stevenson had this in him.
