The Cardinals have a new TV deal! Does this solve the payroll concerns?

The Cardinals announced Thursday that they have a new agreement on a multi-year TV deal with FanDuel Sports Network, which is the entity formerly known as Bally Sports.

In a good update for fans who want to watch the games, you will now be able to purchase an app to do so if you live in the Cardinals TV market. That means you will have another option besides an expensive cable subscription.

Brenden Schaeffer discusses what this means for fans, what it means for the Cardinals payroll and revenues. The details we know, the details we don’t yet know, and some informed speculation on exactly what might be coming next as a result of this news.

  1. I live in IOWA and I suspend my FuboTV during the off season and go YouTube TV when it's not baseball season because it's like 115 for Fubo Vs 75 YouTube tv

  2. So, let me get this straight… We're going to let the youth movement run, we've possibly solved the Firstbase dillema (I still think Herrera should have been the guy to fill the role), we're saving money for – hopefully – brighter days again, AND we now have a TV deal secured!?

Man, I know that some sad trades/times are still incoming, but right now, I cannot help but be stoked about the future. This is going better than I could have hoped for!

  3. Why move Contreras to first when you have two guys to fill that hole in Baker and Burly this is so stupid to me his Value is behind the plate in my opinion ! He’s the only catcher we got that can throw anyone out

  4. I have sling tv now I got rid of cable a while ago i hope they do a combo thing with the blues so u get both because u can't watch the cardinals on the fan duel app unless u have a cable service

  5. Good if there are no blackouts and if you do not have a contract. If they tank then do a fire sale at the deadline, not sure I want to keep paying.

  6. Since I have not seen anywhere that they actually asked the paying consumer what they wanted for a solution, I will just assume they’ve screwed this up again until I see evidence to the contrary.

  7. I did blues season tickets, and for the away games, I did fan duel app it's 20 bucks a month. I dropped cable 2 years ago. The best thing I ever did and I don't have any problems with the app it's awesome

  8. Trading Sonny would be trying to better allocate the $65M owed him. Hoping o have to eat my words, but concerned. His cratering when needed most last year is a huge red flag for me.

  9. I would be happy if I could listen to Cardinal games on the radio! But, that can't happen. I live in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In the past I picked up KMOX at night, but that doesn't happen anymore. What shocked me was…I could download the KMOX app on my phone. Yay…right? Nope, it does NOT carry the Cardinal games in my area. Not sure why. A game is going on in St. Louis, but the app has the news on…. very sad….

  10. I definitely want a direct to consumer product but only on my phone. Only why I have been able to listen is on Sirius XM. To be able to watch would be great.

  11. Iv always used the MLB TV app because I'm in Ohio. The only thing that kind of stinks about that is that I'm right in the middle of Cincinnati, Cleveland and Detroit so all of those games get blacked out.
