Trevor Hoffman didn’t have his best season coming from the Marlins. As years went by, Hoffman adapted into the closer role, and the rest was history. Which Padre started great, but ended horribly? Day 7

Edit: You can tell that a lot of fans here are more recent by the amount of Hosmer responses, but Brian Giles was the best hitter on the Padres and one of the best hitters in the league when he first came here, and he was literally the worst hitter in the majors by the time he was done
Hosmer for his 2022 season alone
Half a season but Brandon Drury?
Ryan Schimpf
Cameron Maybin stole 40 his first season. Kind of fell off after that.
Hosmer. Should be no one other than Hosmer
Steve Garvey started pretty great for the first couple years, then ended up with us retiring a dodgers number…. thats ending pretty horribly
Austin Adams?
Drew Pomeranz?
Dinelson Lamet
Hosmer for sure – the magazine cover, the excitement throughout the city, and then the ugliest of all ugly endings
Trent Grisham
Not sure if it’s a perfect choice but Carlos Quentin or Milton Bradley come to mind.
Bob Melvin, Hader.
Benito Santiago – loved his rookie season but by the end he was ready to ditch SD
Jedd gyrko
Hosmer doesn’t count, his time with San Diego hasn’t ended! He is still getting a pay check! Hahah
But seriously Eric Hosmer
Christian Villanueva. The man was crushing lefties for the first month and then immediately cane back down to earth
Mike Clevinger
I know who the last box is going to be. There can only be one answer.
Dinelson Lamet, Clevinger, Drury
Villanueva
Nabil “Pitching Jesus” Crismatt
Kyle Blanks
Benito Santiago ROY to couldn’t wait to get outta here.
Chris Paddack and an incredible rookie year. We felt his future was bright if he were able to develop more pitches than 2 pitches…then he lost control of his FB.
