There was no defensive player at #8 that was going to step on the field & immediately make them elite. So they drafted a pro ready QB. People forget that they flew the brass out to Wash to work out Penix & were super impressed. I never understood the media's & some fans' overblown reaction. Also, 64 different QB's started games last year & Kirk was coming off a major injury. You never know so improving your QB room is smart….Ridder / Heinecke to Cousins / Penix!
I wanted the GIANTS to draft Penix. I am glad we got Nabers, but I wanted Penix.
Hardly anyone mentions that almost every single media draft had Falcons taking Turner, who hasn’t done much at all in his rookie year
Who care’s y’all on the past.. there will be no other QB available next few years for ATL to get in the future.. so I would have got him too we all need a back up
I have been a Falcons fan for approx. 50 years. I was so excited when the Falcons drafted Penix because he was who I wanted them to draft before they signed Cousins. Even though Penix has to sit for a couple of years or so, the Falcons now have the QB position set for the next 12-15 years. Had they not drafted Penix, they might have had a couple of years or so of success with Cousins and then become irrelevant again because they don't have a QB. It was the right move.
For you guys to be professional sportscasters you never had it right about the Michael Pennix Jr pick. We signed Kirk to a basically 2-year deal, Michael Pennix is the future for the Falcons, if Kirk goes down early or if Kirk retires after two or three years in. Pennix, he's the future not the right now. He's learning a lot watching Kirk. If you look at it the right way, we actually have 2 starting QBs. 🫵🏿😁
Here's something you never see…a sports personality says they were wrong.
It makes sense to draft a qb and sit him behind a vet, but they had just signed kirk to a massive 4 year deal that goes through 2027. Penix will be 27 and due for his own payday when kirks contract is off the books. It just doesnt make sense money wise. They could have waited a year or two and still sat whoever they drafted behind kirk for two plus years
Don't get all excited on Atlanta…they've beat bad teams and lost to good teams….luckily they are in a sh*t division so they'll prolly win it.
That’s quite the thumbnail for this video.
Atlanta has a weak strength of schedule the rest of the way. They're in the playoffs.
It was a dumb pick, do one or the other, could’ve had Rome or Brock instead of penix. Or they could’ve spent money on top free agents and drafted penix.
Rams taking Fiske for a second round pick!
A team had Desmond Ridder and Marcus Mariota. They didn't want to go through that ordeal anymore at the most important position in all of sports. So they made sure to take care of it, short and long term. Totally understood the logic as a Washington fan.
I like Rich….he was ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS talking everyday about Atlanta drafting Penix for a month. Asking EVERYONE'S opinion on it. It was out of control.
I haven’t heard Dallas Turners name at all this season, just sayin
It’s one of the smarter moves made in the draft this year
It’s not messing with cousins, it’s the fact he doesn’t have a first round rookie weapon right now
Brockman looks like Uncle Fester
Read the comments from all of us Falcons fans: we needed a long-term answer with a young QB to learn behind a vet, AND we drafted pass rush later in the draft. The only unfortunate part is that Bralen Trice tore his ACL in pre-season
8th overall bro i know you old but damn get that right not 7th
YOU CREATED THIS MY GUY
The narrative was they should have gotten a pass rusher and now they still need a pass rusher, and Penix has been useless for the team.
Rich it's really time to get off of this bro
As a Falcons fan on draft day I was shocked but tried to like the pick. I do like it. However, we wont truly know until he Penix plays a full season. I do hate that fans & media keep mentioning his name as an option even while Kirk is playing lights out. If Penix isn’t developed & launched properly this great position could be a disaster. Just let Kirk play & enjoy the greatness he’s in.
We don't know yet if Pennix was the right pick. What we can say is that it hasn't affected Cousin's performances and the defensive options that were available haven't done much. Knowing all that makes the pick much more defensible.
