The night the Yankees lost the World Series to the Dodgers

THIS. WAS. CRAZY. Soooo much drama and sad Yankee fans. Errors, meltdowns, tantrums, bottles being thrown at the police, and more. Game 5 of the 2024 World Series at Yankee Stadium was historic in MANY ways, and it was nuts to be there for it.

Yes, this video is absurdly long, but it covers the ENTIRE DAY. I arrived at the stadium more than four hours before first pitch, saw both teams take batting practice, snagged a couple of baseballs, got up close to Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, and Alex Rodriguez, watched Gerrit Cole warm up in the bullpen, and had amazing seats on the “short porch” in right field. Mookie Betts and Juan Soto were right in front of me. Aaron Judge was nearby in center field and . . . well, we all know THAT went. Plus I saw Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani too. And then after the game, I headed to the 3rd base side for the Dodgers’ celebration as world champions! Magic Johnson and other celebrities were there, and I got a peek at the World Series trophy. This was truly SO DAMN COOL.

But wait, shouldn’t I be sad about how this all went down? I’m a native New Yorker. Aren’t I supposed to be a Yankees fan? Why do I always wear that cap with the MLB logo? See here:

By the way, this game took place on October 30, 2024, and it’s the third time that I’ve seen a World Series clincher in person. As promised, here are my blog entries about the other two experiences . . .

2015 World Series β€” Game 5

This video was filmed by Rachel Messbauer who did an amazing job all season. Zac Gutherman (@zg_films) edited the first 12 minutes (basically everything pre-game), and I edited everything else after that. Thanks for watching (especially if you make it to the very end). Much love to you all!

  1. I was at LAX when this game happened. My brother and parents were on our phones watching the game while we waited to pick our grandpa up. I swear to god I yelled so loudly seeing that last out

  2. From yankee fans cheering when Shohei got injured to booing Freddie during "stand up to cancer" for his mom who passed to applauding and encouraging those fans who ripped the ball out of Mookie's glove. That game 5 series win on their home field felt like the baseball gods dealt some karma. Stay humble new york. Hold this L. Ya'll are not like us! Go Dodgers! Thanks Zack for the season and post season coverage. It's great to see the beautiful game of baseball through a ball hawk's lens! See you next season!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA THAT WTF U GAY YANKEE FANS GET TALKING CRAP TO MOOKIE I THOUGHT THE YANKS CAUGHT THE GROOV IR SOMETHING I HERD LIKE THAT FROM THE CROWD πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  4. Zack! Thanks for bringing us the atmosphere of this historic game. Too bad you had to go talk to that fan (any other inning, why?! Jk. How could you have known) and missed 2 of the biggest plays of that 5th inning (Judge's drop and Volpe & Jazz misplay). Would've loved to have seen that live on your video.

  5. The fans throwing bottles of on to the field is not cool. I understand they are passionate about the Yankees bur throwing things on the field and grabbing players gloves while a ball is in play is just crazy. The Dodgers and Yankees are two good teams. The Dodgers were just better this series but I hope they play again next year. Dodger stadium is still my favorite field and team.
