Could the Braves sign Willy Adames as Shortstop?
The hope for Willy Adames being signed by the Braves has been the most speculated by Atlanta fans this offseason. Adames is likely the highest prize for shortstop in the free agency market. But, how attainable is the infielder?
The struggles that Orlando Arcia had in 2024 have led to widespread criticism, specifically his bat. However – the low cost of Arcia could keep him at the shortstop position. After all, it’s hard to argue with solid defense for pennies on the dollar. But, could Atlanta sign Willy Adames this offseason? Is shortstop even that high of a priority? Tune in to discuss.

I don’t trust Willy but he brings great energy I’m telling you he is a leader
If the Braves didn't have any other holes to fill, I'd love to see them sign Adames. Starting Pitching is a much bigger need than trying to squeeze more offensive production out of SS, though. If they're going to spend 30m/5yr, you give it to Max Fried.
Could they get Adames? Sure. Would he be a good upgrade over what they have? Maybe not, because since Arcia's been with the Braves, they have him being a 1.5 fWAR per 600 plate appearances player. Arcia is set to make $2mil in 25', and $2mil club option with a $1mil buyout in 26'. If Adames were to make anything in that $20mil to $25mil range, he would cost 10 to 12 times the price of Arcia, while only being a guy who produces somewhere in that 2 to 3 times the amount of WAR.
No, I can't see them spending around $150 million on him, nor would I want them to.
Tyler !! No love for your followers ??
It is reasonable to explore opportunities to upgrade the roster, such moves align with the team's long-term strategy and immediate needs. However, it would be unjust to place the entire offensive burden on one player like Arcia. While bolstering the lineup is important, the Braves' current priorities should also include addressing key areas of pitching depth. Players like Max Fried, Charlie Morton, Joe Jiménez, and A.J. Minter are essential to the team's postseason aspirations, and their contributions cannot be overlooked, those holes have to be filled. Additionally, with payroll limitations, strategic decisions must focus on filling these critical holes without overextending financial commitments, ensuring a well-rounded and sustainable roster for future success. Sometimes people forget Arcia is only costing 2.0 Million I agree with you 1,000% I would not touch Adames contract with this healthy Braves lineup just not worth it.
Adames just feels like a braves guy to me, and I wouldn’t be scared of a lot of years bc he could move to the DH spot as his age may slow him down as a defender……. They could probably get him around 27 or 28 mil!!! I’d pay that for him no doubt bc he’s consistent year over year, u know what ur getting and he’s durable and a veteran!! It’s just a really good fit and gives u time to farm a SS to succeed him at some point
Ha-song Kim is another probably better get though IMO
🤔I dont think the Braves will do this when they could've kept Swanson for less and let him walk. If the Braves sign a shortstop, it'll be a veteran who will compete for the job or just for depth. A Whit Merrifield type of player. The money they have will go to pitching and a corner outfielder. But mostly pitching.
You know we should’ve never got rid of Chad Durban and we would have our short stop of the future

Could we trade for him to get him back from the Yankees
If they don't get Adames, then AA better knock it out of the fuckin park with the other acquisitions.
Arcia wasn't signed for his bat to start with. His defense is what got him the job and he has done great on the defensive side. Ride it out with Arcia because spending that money on Adames you're getting the same other than a few extra home runs that still wouldn't justify paying out 10x Arcias salary. Go get some pitchers or give fried some money.
I have thought AA has had his sights on Adames for a couple years that’s why he didn’t go after Swanson or the other 3 a couple years ago. He is the type of player and person AA loves and I’m calling it now that Contreras will be the next catcher after Murphy
I maybe wrong but everyone is going to see after this offseason that the days of the Braves and AA being called cheap is over. I’m not saying they number one or two but if AA thinks it’s worth it and AA wants someone then just like he said he has never been told no and given the green light. He’s not gonna waste money but the Braves are playing with the LA’s and NY’s now
