I walked on the 1995 baseball team at ASU my freshman year when Pat Murphy took over the legendary Jim Brock’s job as head coach. Murphy came from Notre Dame and brought an “it’s my way or the highway” kind of attitude to the program. Walk-on tryouts were Saturday from noon till two. mind you, this is Phoenix in August. it was 116° that day and my no water bottle-havin’-ass was just about to die from dehydration. I never carried a water bottle with me growing up in San Diego – did you? We just finished up 60 yard sprints, where we were broken into three groups of pictures/catchers, infielders and outfielders. Top five from each group competed again and for whatever reason the top five of that group competed. I made it to the last five and when I finished, I ran to the dugout where he was sitting and asked him if I could get a drink of water. Dude, fucking tells me, “we don’t have any water suck it up“😂 but I was legitimately feeling like I was on the verge of passing out I was so thirsty!
That’s why this news stings a little more. Fuck you, Pat Murphy.🖕😂

So basically what we learned this season is that the only way a Padres player or coach will be awarded anything (by the “sports writers association”)is if they are literally forced to. If there’s ever a shred of doubt go ahead and bet against us.
They don’t watch our games. And some of the main members seem to hate everything the Padres do. For no apparent reason.
Fuck ’em. Shove that worthless award up your ass. Writers. I don’t blame you, Pat and Paul.
All the voting is political. Like all subjective awards.
