Hello Red Wing Fans! I am a friendly/come in peace Devils fan. I will be traveling to Detroit on Black Friday to see the game.

I have a few questions. What are some good pregame things to do/see? What are good places for dinner after the game? Also how safe of a walk is it to my hotel from the arena? Or would a Lyft ride be better?

I know with the long Red Wing history, I would assume there's a lot inside the arena to check out. I'm only heading out there for the game. I land around 1145am Friday, and fly home 8am Saturday morning.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Its a safe walk to your hotel. There is a couple bars across the street from lca called second best and Bakersfield both are great for before or after the game. There is a really good restaurant that does breakfast and dinner called le supreme 1 block away from your hotel thats really good and has late hours on weekends.

  2. Pregame, go to the christkindl market at campus martius and then see the Spirit of Detroit. Post game, go to Lafayette Coney Island. Don’t mistake that with American coney next door. Similar to a Pat’s/Geno’s dynamic in Philly except this one actually has a right answer. Definitely get to the game a little early, LCA is pretty nice.

  3. If the weather is decent, you are probably going to want to walk Woodward from the river to the arena. There is a lot of Christmas season in that stretch. You should also see if the People Mover is running, and take a loop on that ride.

  4. Definitely a safe walk from the hotel down Woodward if weather permits. There will be lots of people out and about on that stretch on a game night.

There is no shortage of good places to eat in the area, my favorite is Nemo’s, they run a shuttle to LCA but it’s kind of in the opposite direction you would be heading.

  5. Totally safe walk and I’d recommend it if you want to see the city a bit as you’ll walk the city center and see a bunch of music venues and Comerica Park. Pregame I’d just go wander around the Campus Martius area and see what holiday stuff is going on.

If you’re trying to drink/party a bit after the game and get a more casual bite to eat, I’d go south on Woodward back to Campus Martius, or if you walk toward the Skip near that area, there are like 25 bars/restaurants along the way.

If you want a fancier meal after by your hotel I’d go to Le Supreme/the Book Tower bar or Leila. Prime + Proper sucks. Bar Pigalle if you’re willing to walk a little further after LCA but it’d take a while to walk back.

Cafe D’Mongos (divey speakeasy) or Cliff Bell’s (jazz club) if you’re trying to see live music after the game.

  6. Also, how’s the bag policy? I don’t think I’ll be able to check into my hotel before the game. The bag policy for LCA is 4″x6″. That’s pretty small, but I should be able to pack what I need within it. Phone charger and deodorant mostly. Any tips on what I would be able to bring into the arena?

  7. I’m currently in Detroit from Chicago and staying right across the street from where you’ll be. A line is super duper convenient and it’s very safe around us. The arena is chefs kiss ❤️ and the people are even better. Have a blast!
