Thank God my Wings didn't get him
So the team would’ve been even worse? Yikes
Wow thats damning of Chris Illitch. He doesn't care like his father did. Look at the tigers and the wings. Inept and should sell both teams
Terry Foster as a Detroiter I can confirm is not credible. Maybe this occurred, but if Foster is saying this then likely it’s not true. Anyone else from the same area will confirm Foster has a poor reputation in our market.
So here is my take on this. As of July first. Center on the second line was a serious issue. Stamkos would be a splash and would help. This is all before we saw kasper in the nhl. 3 yrs would have been my max for Stamkos at that point. Maybe illitch stopped it. Or ignored. Maybe he didn’t. Detroit wouldn’t match 4 years. Good call. No one can use Stamkos stats this year in Nashville as a way to frown upon this deal. No one knew he would struggle. No one knows if he would struggle the same in Detroit. Probably considering Lalonde style sucks. But it’s still unknown. 3 yr deal for Stamkos would have been ok at that time. Now with kasper playing above his expectations it would be pointless. So it’s good it fell thru.
I can see a conversation like, if we do this deal we will be handcuffed in years 3 and 4. If we don’t this team likely won’t make the playoff this year. . How important to ownership is it to make the playoffs immediately? Not permission just keeping it real. Steve didn’t have 8 million to pay Stamkos. He was at the cap. So I don’t buy it. Unless ownership says find the way to make the playoffs now or pack your bags. That didn’t happen so I suspect there was agreement that this team was still shooting for a window in 3-4 years.
It’s not true bro… 🤣 Jfc.
You people will believe anything
Just to prefice, im typing this before i even watch. This rumor is very shakey and from a very shadowy source. Steve has histrorically had an air tight ship when it comes to news coming and going from his office's business. Theres never leaks of any free agent signings, or even draft picks. Its lock tight. The proveyor of this rumor is a long time radio host in the Detroit area, formerly of the flagship sports station in the area and now a host on an streaming based radio show. He certainly well connected formerly being with the Detroit Free Press, but I doubt that this rumor can be substantiated in any way shape or form. Its a talking point to put another stake in the back of Chris Illitch, current Patriarch of the Illitch Family(owners of Little Caesars, the Wings, and the Baseball Detroit Tigers.) because hes viewed as a penny pincher owner on the MLB side, which i agree with. When it comes to the NHL though, its literally a Floor-Cap league, the family is well off and the team makes up for lost revenue in ticket sales via merchandise easily. There is no practical benefit in flooring out besides draft related reason. There is no question that Steve has full atonomy in regards to hockey ops as long as he isnt acruing cap overage penalties. This is a silly rumor but certainly would have been nice if true.
Trust Fund Chrissy ain’t signing Tarik Skubal long-term either. He couldn’t care LESS about winning.
Darren McCarty is on Woodward sports. He's the only one I trust on hockey news from them
If this is true, thank you Chris Ilitch for saving us from another bad contract.
This just makes me think Yzerman isn’t good for the Red Wings. Not as a GM anymore anyways. It’s frightening to think of what he’ll do with upcoming cap space. So many bad UFA contracts already.
He did. Ken Daniels somehow heard about it and told me at one of his fund raisers. That’s why we traded Walman so quickly and for such a hit. Steve thought he had stammer and that’s why he signed Tarasanko to cover this mistake after that deal fell through.
Say what you want about stammer’s stats this season so far, but having Larkin, Stamkos, Kasper down the middle would be amazing. With that said, I’m glad it didn’t work out
Chris Ilitch is a failure and needs to sell the wings and tigers.
yzerman really tried to sign, stamkos to go with kane, tarasenko, petry, holl, chariot, gustafsson, copp and compher lol
this is the genius yzerplan 🤣
